The effect was that for good pilots, you could make a mountain of cash quickly.

*or just look at one of my post from a very long time ago.
While OP's desire is.... valid.
Theres just no way to make it MARKET FRIENDLY (you know, PGI need to make money and all that) enough.
especially considering most players don't play more than an hour or two a day.
and given the costs of replacing components/mechs. yah.... the math is not friendly to most of the paying population who do not have 8 hours a day to play.
and then there is premium time, and premium mechs.
it is something PGI doesn't really want to touch, making the game Pay 2 play.
edit:
Also: the days with R and R, I remember most people use cheap/trail mechs to avoid paying the replacement bill for the AC20 that everybody loves to focus fire on.
yah, I don't miss it.
edit 2: also. back when we had R&R there were ALOT of AFK trail mechs/bots in matches just to farm cbills.
lets not encourage that again.

I agree with PGI's stance on it not happening until community warfare starts up, and even then I would want to see it done well or not at all.

It was a terrible back in closed beta, it didn't work at all well. With R'n'R cored upgraded assaults cost more to repair than they ever made during a single matched. It would cost people more to put ballistics and missiles on their mech with the cost of rearming. It encourages defensive, ultra cautious game-play, with people refusing to ever leave cover and risking a large repair bill.
Also the R'n'R would hit the losing team far harder, as well as new player, anyone how took risks, ran a brawling build, pushed or didn't spend the entire match hill-humping or poptarting and we definitely want more of that in the game.
And lets not forget all the shiny new clan mech would cost was more to repair, the QQ form those that paid out for their clan packs would be epic.

This has been covered numerous times and no one in favor of R&R has ever been able to prove otherwise.

I mean, we're talking entire weapon classes being useless to non-premium players because of ammo costs, never mind things like XL engines. R&R should show up in community warfare in some form, but it should be in the form of a resource to repair that is limited to a planet, rather than people spending C-bills. Expend the resources on-world before they can regenerate, the opponent with resources remaining gets a free push towards taking over said planet as you can't go out there and fight. If you WANT to spend C-bills instead as an option, that's a possible one- but resource management should be part of CW, not general combat.

So people with higher cashflow (ie premium) use big 'Mechs, F2Peons sit there in the 55 and under crowd while the goldboys flaunt their fatness?

it was bad, I been there. it makes the game into a grindfest. back then, there was salvage system that give you bonus money for wins made R&R more bearable. you win once, you can afford to lose 1 or 2 matches.
but at the cost of really punishing the losing team.
I had people who I tried to get into MWO but left after a day or 2 after they realized there is NO ADVANCEMENT unless you always win.
"a massive waste of time" as a friend called it.
MWO is not like eve online, PGI is trying to survive and profit.
given the amount of "hardcore" arguments made by people who havnt brought any of the packs.
it does not make sense to PGI as a bussiness. <--- and thats why for pugs/normal, R&R won't comeback, if it does, it will be VERY weak that it might not be worth having at all.
it works in World of tanks cause shells costs/etc is less than earnings on a average player.
in MWO, well, losing an AC 20 is 400k... back then, on a loss the cash is almost non exsistent. you are guranteed to lose 500k+ if your 50tons hunchback gets focused fired.
***above post is short summary of all the arguements made in the last 2 years about R&R.
it does not make bussiness sense to do it.

I can deal with that kind of cheap-repair nudging if it's in-faction designs, though it should be more specific and also include planetary control.
A Steiner wouldn't get a discount for the Atlas-K, for example, and if someone took Hesperus II, the discount would become worse for them and better for someone else (as that's where the Atlas is made.

I think it'd work far better as part of CW, with units having to buy their own mechs and such. RnR would matter to the people who would have FUN with having the mechanic in game.

This game already has a steep learning curve... putting R&R back in will just dwindle the F2P ranks.

It also didn't hurt those who chose to exploit the mechanics of R&R. The automatic 75% for free was SO abused, particularly by LRM boats...

If you suck with the atlast run a medium or light mech and let someone better handle the assaults. it could be balanced out so that if you are doing a good job and you are holding your own you wont see a penalty. if you blow you lose

newbees could even get a 100 match no R&R Bonus. by then they shouldve figured out the game mechanic, or they just choose a fraction specific mech or a lighter mech
Any of them now factor in that, in theory, clan mechs would cost a lot more to repair if R&R is based off the value of the mech?
