In addition you can claim to be a FOUNDING member of something. I've never been the founding member of anything. Every morning I tell my wife, "I am the Legendary Founding Member of Mechwarrior Online!" Although she does not seem impressed. In fact, she is actually showing some signs of being annoyed by it. Go figure . . .

I'm happy to part with my hard earned cash to be part of this universe, and if a founder pack lets me feel like i'm investing in that universe and gives me a better return on the in game consumables etc, and distintive mech to pilot then i'm very happy.

How many projects can you name, which have been ground breaking AND willingly backed up by truly big sponsors from start to finish?

You mean other than government projects like the Hoover Dam and the interstate highway project? There's the Melinda Gate's Foundation working on things like eliminating malaria. They've got one of the biggest sponsors in the world, but they're not looking for a monetary return. Virgin Galactic has been ground breaking and backed by large sponsors as well as relatively wealthy citizens. Of course, they're not quite finished yet. Soon though. Very soon...

That's a GOOD sign! Keep it up! You'll soon have all the time in the world to play MWO. Worked for me with Ultima Online back in '99. :)

I invested because:

A) I love this universe, always have and always will
 I've played every single Battletech game since crescent hawk's revenge
C) I'm addicted to giant battling piloted robots....How addicted? I've watched Robot Jox a million cajillion times...

What risk??? I GET GIANT BATTLING ROBOTS WITH ME IN DA COCKPIT!!! ONLINE!!! SHOW MY FRIENDS!!! OMGPWNZRZ!!!

ahem... ok... 'nuff of the fanboi :)

I agree with the sentiment. Hopefully they don't cheapen the investment by re-releasing these special mechs 3 months from now :)

Robot Jox? What a dog of a movie. You are hardcore.

Well, no risk, no reward...

I'm happy to help out - hopefully I'll be rewarded with hours of fun gameplay... if not, well... it's not the end of the world.

I'm not so much try before buy as I am not yet sold on what they're pitching. I've been burned too many times to willingly spend money on something I know so little about, so I will remain reserved until such time I am satisfied with what I see, whether or not the founders packs pass me by before this happens or not is of no concern because If I am convinced I will support regardless of incentives provided. The fact that I have completely abandoned World of Tanks, a game I have played every day since the beginning of beta, is in my opinion proof of my interest in this game as an idea.

Agreed, but anyone who's played a loved the MechWarrior games didn't even give thought to that. My only concern was deciding which founder level to get.

None come to my mind tbh and I think MW:O more than qualifies as ground breaking.

Can we all just agree that Mechwarrior Online is not groundbreaking and buying a Founder's pack is not an investment?

120 dollars for 4 mechs with different colors isn't much of a reward, just saying. and the amount of cash isn't that much of a risk either.

i think some people are flattering themselves.

Potential Rewad:Revitalization of a fantastic IP and perks while playing what is looking to be a killer game.
Potential Risk: I'm out 120 bucks so I'll be a little bit less drunk this weekend

Easy choice!

Well it is always a risk but...

First of all I'm combat simulation fan of all genres mainly combat flight simulators. When I first read that there will be new MW game and it will be simulation I just jumped in the air with joy. Been BT Universe hardcore fan this is like a dream come true. Personally combat simulation is everything to me.

So hypothetically speaking even if MWO fails and I hope that it won't. I still won't regret my decision with purchasing Founders. I will be more angry that it failed rather than losing my money.

So far MWO development looks great and promising the team and all seems to be just right for it.

So when it is released and if MWO is this simulation MW game. I'm going to spend even more money on it. Because MWO is going to bring me lots of entertainment, fun and joy. So I don't mind supporting its development for as long as it exists.

There really is no risk. 98% of games cost you money. For the most part you can not try them out. Founders pack just lets you pay in advance like any other game.

There is a risk. If there aren't enough other Founders the game could flop.

For me, it was simple: Best gaming days of my life were back in the MW2/Heavy gear/MW3 days, and then....no one really made any mech games anymore. Microsoft did a halfhearted attempt with MW4, but nothing really engaging for over a decade...when I looked at this, I started having flashbacks.

Piranha shows potential, and I want to see it realized.

I too was shocked by this thread not going where I thought it would, but then...I am not sure it went anywhere. I feel me spending $120 isn't much of a risk really. If spending the money is a "risk" to anyone...I highly advise you use it for food, shelter or ammunition. Whichever you may need most to avert any risk to yourself.
