I'm a vocal critic of this game and PGI in general, (Just look at any of my posts) but I think people are on an unconstructive warpath, hating on PGI, Niko in particular. He may be deserving of the flame, but is it really helping to spew hatred in the forums? I feel like people just want a pound of flesh and punishment, not for things to get better.

I think our definitions of an apology are distinctly different

But what did he apologise for?
"I apologize personally and sincerely from the bottom of my heart for anyone who has taken this matter as a personal offence"
He did not apologise for anything that he did. He apologised that people took offense.

He apologized that some people got offended. Not that he did any wrong doing.

Please, I hope the other mods see this. Speak up, get management involved. Niko is ruining your reputation faster than I can type this. You were doing good this year! Really! As much **** as I throw your way a lot of it is just because you handle your community so poorly.
Get rid of the cancer before it kills you.

If that looks like an apology you must need to run your Atlas through the car wash. He is apologizing for us "misunderstanding his intentions," he is not apologizing to us.
If that had been a genuine apology, he wouldn't have needed to lock the thread, he could have turned around and used that apology as a springboard to start discussing things with us like we're reasonable human beings.

It has been clear the MWO is little more than a cash-grab distraction, because there is no other explanation on how the game could turn out to be little more than a crappy multiplayer mode. Which also means that the moment that costs outstrip income, the servers get their plugs pulled. It will probably come soon, too, because I can't believe that they can sustain MWO on the constant stream of cosmetics. 'mechs are cosmetic. We've been paying money to prance around in shiny robot-dresses at the same dance for years now.
So yeah, announcing a split in focus from MWO, which would look like almost like abandonware if it weren't for the constant release of money-sink cosmetics, does not really inspire confidence.
I'm SO GLAD that I became a founder in the game that helped grind MW into the ground for another decade. wooo.

He only apologized to the people who took offence, not for what he did.
So is that what people want, to hear him actually say "I apologize for my actions on reddit?" I find the situation deplorable too, but the forum has devolved into the virtual equivalent of a lynch mob. There are several people here who would probably only be happy with the guy homeless and unemployed. It's kind of sad to see a community I thought was generally friendly turn into this.

You only thought it was a friendly community because any dissenting opinion was silenced or removed.
