It strikes me that this thread appears to be off the rails.

If Russ thinks a Council might be helpful, so be it. Give it a go. I personally believe that it is unlikely to end well, but you can't know that for certain until you try.

I am somewhat uncomfortable with the process of selection as it stands so far, however.

I would rather see PGI invite people to be on the "Council"... Then let them choose X number of folks based upon what they (PGI) perceives to be the player groups that need to be represented, including the disgruntled folks.

Any selection that involves voting for representation will likely get twisted.

I remember me being quite unhappy with PGI when they couldn't deliver a proper deadline, while promoting golden mechs.

But now?
Things seemed to have changed.
I remember a time where people would have killed to get heard by PGI.

Since I do have the luxury of a comfy income I would've thought again of buying a golden timber.
Bit late now.

But in the end I like where things are going.
Is it all sunshine?
Well of course things are a bit slow progressing, but I thought this council thing could prove to be a boon.

Just rename it to something lower sounding.
Maybe it'll turn away the sour grapes.

It's still a good idea.
Just draw up a bit shorter list from the first page, maybe those with at least 2 digit long

If you need someone to drop in additionally, have those with lower counts up for vote against one another.
And just keep the thread locked for commenting.
Only voting

If you think it'd be appropriate, put in an option as to vote against the council all together.
And have PGI maybe promote the whole thing in the launcher.

There are problems with both systems as you pointed out. The biggest reason why the "PGI invite" one isn't being used right now is the accusations of favoritism, and accusing PGI of only picking the players that agree with them / white knights / what have you.

Agreed, but that's why it is important that they invite some of the openly disgruntled folks. I'm sure we can all think of one or two of those folks who would be good on such a Council.

But more than anything, if this "Council" thing is going to have a chance, PGI is going to have to step up a little bit more and get it facilitated.

Russ has been hinting around at getting everyone nominated on TS for a chat.

I think, Russ, you just simply need to say it outright and set a date and time for it.

Poop or get off the pot, as they say.

But please, put an end to this circular nomination nonsense.

Sort of agreed

Just an example (maybe)

-4 (top community voted)

-4 pgi/council picked top players (one representing each class)

-4 pgi/council picked dedicated non-competitive players

-4 pgi/council picked battletech/roleplay/loremasters (probably not super happy with the current game)

-4 pgi/council picked something goes here etc etc etc (disgruntled players?)

I just think some may need to be picked based on things beside popularity.

Thank you Russ for the clarification one more time (yah pretty close - this really isn't something that people can run away with on a power trip. )

But the fact remains many do not feel the need for a player counsel when in fact the issue ECM is not a true problem or game breaking enough to warrant its attention when in fact a more logical subject would be more pertinent like (hey guys what form of game modes would attract more players to MWO) or ( what are your thoughts on how to retain more players so we can grow the player base and provide more daily revenue to keep game content flowing?)

If the name was changed from council which is highly misleading, to say Collating and Polling of Player Suggestions department, or CAPPS dept. this is a much more accurate description of the function of the INTERNs we would need to do the job Russ put forth.

so let us vote for CAPPS interns, does everyone running for PGI council member still want to run for PGI's CAPPS intern positions?

Then this effort is pointless. There are years worth of ideas, insight and critiques of the game. You guys don't need a council, you guys need a single Jr developer to write a tool that reports the data from your own forum archives. What are the hottest posts, most likes, keywords for specific topics, etc. The true priorities if your active players would be objectively discerned, with technology.

You guys have the means to collect real metrics, vs the opinions of a few self important end users. Forget about ecm. Forget about your reddit PR flub. You know what makes gamers the most forgiving, accepting group on earth? A good game. Go full tilt on CW. A strategic, planetary invasion meta game played out in real time via giant robot fps? Shut up and take my money.

been trying to push that concept since inception. It's an advisory committee, community taskforce, interns, etc....

I don't know if he is but I would like 1,000,000 new baby MechWarrior pilots in the game and a huge chat lobby so I could recruit new players to play on a league and train then once more. Dam im getting old MechWarrio2-3-4 on the MSN gamming Zone still seems like it was last Tuesday before the patch.

Or much faster with a group of volunteers willing to sift through the chaff, faster than a tool that would pick up a lot of posts that have no material in them, because one of the key words is in it.
