It's not really against the rules. If someone does this repeatedly to the point where it starts griefing other players, we will investigate further of course. Otherwise, it's a perfectly sound strategy to shut down and hide if it'll net a win.

That's the quote from Reppu, emphasis mine.

And here is the missing other half (from Egomane):

Quote

So if you run and hide without ever engaging, that is non-participation. If you fight to the best of your abilites and hide when there is no way for you to win anymore, that is perfectly fine.

So, barring any futher clarification from PGI ...

Being powered down for more than 1 minute in any one round should count as dying. After all wouldn't the commanders shoot the pilot for cowardice (or atleast arrest) when/if he/she returns to base after allowing the rest of the company to die and running away and hiding?

I would think a commander would be more mad a pilot throws away a multi million c-bill piece of battletechnology on a fight with no chance of winning.

This is me when my team dies :

"They were all shot down... poor ********. Can't confirm survivors. Mission Complete - RTB."

And there is my dead team sitting in the respawn que watching me leave. lol.

"Go to hell, reaper"

Make a loss count as a death. Problem solved. Though I'm sure that will upset some.

So because the enemy capped our base, the whole team just...died? How does that make KDR anything other than a partial W/L?

Really, there is no simple way to fix this problem without hurting shutdowns in general. I say leave it as it is, and when it happens, tough.

Well I was more so talking about in skirmish since the other modes do have a way to end the match before the timer. But actually sure lets put it in assault as well. Should cut down on the amount of people hiding behind a corner right next to their base hopeing somebody else will stop the enemy from finishing the cap because they don't want to hurt their kdr.

Then what is the point of having a kill to DEATH ratio if it measures deaths and losses?

Not really something I'm worried about. Just change it to kill to (death or loss) ratio I guess.

Or, you know, just deal with it. Really not that big a deal. Next time, kill them before they run away.

Your thoughts on the subject?

Personally this is the one of two things that absolutely brings my blood to a boil. After a long hard fight I get tremendously annoyed at that one mech that cannot let the other team win a fair well fought victory.

He runs to the corner or into a crevis and shuts down so his K/D ratio won't be change.

What are your thoughts on the matter because for me nothing makes me angrier as I view it as very disrespectful to the other team that played a hard game and won fair and square. Also, having to wait around is really annoying.

It does not make sense to fight if the last player is outnumbered.

Or they could improve the game and you could just deal with it since it wouldn't be a big deal. Stop worrying about your kdr, nobody can see it anyways.

That is also against the rules and is reportable.

But basically he is saying if the person is hiding for no other reason then preservation of kdr then that is reportable as well. So u give up his spot and 2 wrongs do make a right in this case, the enemy finds them kills them and the match is over faster.

In Death Match with no other objectives, I think the tile the person is on should blink red to indicate where they are. Not an exact thing like showing them on the map, but just showing the tile they are in would be helpful, as you would know where to look. for example if they are hiding in F6, that should blink red on the map if they are there.

Why? Why should a deathmatch void one's desire for self-preservation? Why should it require all to engage with reckless abandoned. Death matches are just as much about surviving/not dying as it's about eliminating the other team. Red tiles don't give away enemy position through out the fight, obviously being elusive is a viable tactic in death matches...there is no requirement for a death march into enemy fire. So why should we have a system that seeks to exclude a viable tactic in order to facilitate the killing of another enemy because they have done a good job of eluding you or because you only seek to have a faster conclusion of the match? His elusive tactics might be his way of picking you guys off one at a time, so why take it away from him?

It's your responsibility to seek and eliminate him, so do it. If you can't, then give him credit for a job well done in preventing you from achieving your goal.

Mostly this only becomes an issue on Terra Therma and sometimes Tourmaline. Its just harder to see shutdown mechs. The maps are so dark ,especially Therma, that you cant find them unless you step on them. Any other map you can spot them from 1000 meters. If your a good light or medium pilot you know where to find "Colonel Sanders." Outside edge of the map preferably between mtns to cut line of sight or sitting on top of one. I actually enjoy it when they do this since its one of the most satisfying things in game to hunt one of these guys down and pwn the hell out of him. Lol if theres plenty of time left and hes shutdown facing away from me i will not fire but call his coordinates in so other teammates can join in the fun, and it lessens his chance of scurrying off and making an escape.

The Colonels seem to be the biggest whiners because as soon as you blow ones cover and dust him chat blows up.

"My team sucked"
"MM failed so bad"
"damn noobs!"

Look at in a whole new point of view. See it as a timed treasure hunt and your trying to get to the prize before the rest of the team.

I have had this happen to me a number of times and it really does get frustrating. The rest of the team fights to the bitter end and the timby with a missing ST goes and hides. I prefer to take the high road and not call his position, but I really can't blame others that do.

If I'm the last one standing with no weapons, I shutdown. Out in the open. After I tell the enemy team where to find me. There's no honor in cowering.

True. I'm not afraid to admit I'm beaten though. Although ramming them does sound fun (insert evil maniacal grin smiley here).

Ive been killed by a death from above here and there when I and one other were the only mechs left and neither of us had weapons left. The one I remember is River city where the enemy jumped from upper city onto me and somehow did enough head damage to kill me (I was open armor there). Ramming damage happens sometimes lol

This is the guy I witnessed either hide/shutdown or run away to a far corner of the map when he took damage. Three times this weekend. Three. Hiding with your nose in a corner is NOT getting another kill. It is not a viable tactic for a win when you're already down. It is particularly odious when you begin the process while the rest of your team is still engaged.

It is a sad attempt to make incremental improvements in your KDA because you lack the skill to do so otherwise. It results in 23 other players with a mech and modules locked down for an extra 5-8 minutes. One user getting his jollies at the expense of 23 is unacceptable.

I'm all for cheering on the last Jenner and howling when he gets kills....even better when he pulls out the win....but this ain't it.

True, all of it. In two of those matches was beat to hell and reporting sounds and enemy locations on TS. The one were i fled to the corner and hid by our base with ecm and didnt shut down,i was going to snipe.

But noooooo. Some jerks on our team started whining and reporting my position, so I couldn't. So, through all your bitching and complaining you had, and have, no idea what I was doing.

Not to mention your fabulous "skills" didnt seem to prevent us from getting steam rolled 0/12, 1/12 and 0/12. So you can take your whining and shove it.
