I believe it depends on the direction your going (Straight up or forward, etc) but I kinda delve more into the later 3050's in BT then early. So perhaps 3049 jumpjets has a bit less functionality. (doesn't 3070+ give directional jumpjets?)

Edit: you also forget that it's MW: O that added the extra jump jet hardpoints to the Spider 5V, not the standard one. (8 max, it was legendary for it's jumping in BT the same way the dasher is for it's running)

However... anyone know what gravity and atmosphere these JJ values are at? there is quite a lot of difference in JJ'ing in a no atmosphere environment or a low / high gravity area and/or winds...

always thought jump jets had vectored thrust ability?

Jumpjets always had vector thrusting. Mechanical jump boosters didn't.

And another bulkie 70 ton would be a good choise....... how? I mean compared to the 70t CFT? Because you can use some more M-Laser? YEY Terra Terma GO!

The Black knight is all energy. That's THE WORST set up to use against the clans, triply so on Terra Therma.

Currently I cant think of a 75t Laservomit Mech. Unless you can name one, I would consider that option as "new".

We don't want a laser vomit mech, that's the wrong course of action. As for naming one, look at the Flashman, that's actually a better choice than the Black Knight, because of it's high engine cap (It can mount XL 375, compared to the cap of 350 for the BK).

Great post, fully agree.
And oh, you are re-opening my wound.. Flashman! I'd love to see its ugly face in the game!

I guess I don't know why people are voting for the Black Knight. If you want laser vomit at that tonnage, play a Timberwolf. They do it the best. IS laser vomit is not on par with Clans. If you don't play with clan mechs and want laser vomit, play the AWS. All the Black Knight variants are almost identical which makes for a boring grind if you are really set on mastering them. Vote Grasshopper for variety. Vote Grasshopper for mobility. Vote Grasshopper because it is the superior choice for MWO.

Yes, every time a read/post in this thread, I hear "Duel of the Fates" in the background

Why doesn't anyone else want a 9 Laser Vomit build?? It would be fun, and is currently very powerful on the TW (with 7 lasers). With some energy heat quirks that would likely come with the Black Knight, it could compete.

1 missile Hard Point in the head? Can't even have an SRM 6... Ughhhhh useless! "Oh but you could put an LRM 5 for harassment" yeah whatever, no use in competitive play. Jump jets? Oh so you can scale hills better yay so worth it..

In any case, this poll is so close they are gong to release whichever one they want, like Russ said for the Assault poll.

How 'bout this, have each go up against my Timber Wolf "Alpha Guard". Which ever dies the slowest wins. ;)

Me, I hear Dueling Banjos.

As for laser vomit being good on the TW, that is because the TW is not a one trick pony. It also uses relatively superior Clan tech. So a comparison does not work well. People can change it up to whatever they feel like. BK does all energy all the time. Nothing more. The Grasshopper at least almost as much energy plus it jumps. The armor and internal structure differences for five tons is minimal. Overall, it is an argument of net firepower vs mobility and a bit of versatility. Some also just do not like the way the Black Knight looks. If anyone thought the BK would run away with this poll they were sadly mistaken.

One can always dream.

But yeah,i think in this case, the Grasshopper is the better choice.

And no,not every variant got a missle launcher in the head. ;)

But no JJs will mean the Black Knight will get quirks to be better at energy boating...

Black Knight could do 9 lasers, 57 pt alpha with comparable heat to the TW build. It has inferior range, but also only a 1 sec burn time, so slightly less face time. Just sayin...

You could also run a Wub Knight build.

Yes it can do that, but it cannot do much else. Even with DHS the BK with struggle unless players make cuts in their energy payloads. It is also going to be a very popular target if players do no use good heat management. The only thing that will make it better than an Awesome will be somewhat smaller profile. Until the new quirks hit we do not even have a decent basis for their effect on a chassis.

Ok...guess now i see your color...

You want a Timberwolf with IS coating...but i don´t think the BK will fulfill that role.

But with quirks unknown, thats just speculation...

However...copy some Timmybuilds with IS tech won´t make this game more interessting...

Really now?
Look at the Rakshasa then. Not that I do not have a soft spot for the ol' Rak, but it is an IS clone of the Timber Wolf. Think about that and then look again at what you are estimating with the Black Knight.
