I'm not that unhappy about it tbh. I ranked 5th Clan heavies last time and was top 10 for Cents during another one. What was annoying though was the constant blocking and friendly fire. And by friendly fire I don't mean being grazed with stuff. I'm used that and **** happens. It was the guys shooting legs or whole sides of friendly mechs off. Or any time I opened a mech up or had it one shot away from death the horde of seagulls would descend all fighting over the last hit lol.
I would much rather PGI put their efforts into lance or team based tournaments.

Imagine if Kills didn't get points, but soaking up damage and surviving did?
That would change the game up a fair bit.
Not sure what other formula they can use for these tournaments, though. Something less focused on getting that killing touch.

I agree. Not as great for Epeen I suppose, but the Lance Challenges, I enjoyed thoroughly (even if LRMs got a tad repetitive at times, but Hey, I was in a NARC Light, so more assists for me!) because it pushed toward more teamwork, better thought out play, and a whole lot less Derptastic FF.

I've got to say, since the Dire Wolf came out for C-bills, I've been seeing a shocking amount of "not-so-Friendly-Fire" happening more and more.
Even running a Dakka Dire Wolf, I still show trigger discipline, and try not to buzz-saw team mates if they walk into my line of fire.
I just wish some of the numb nuts brigade I see in PUGlife would under stand the Friendly Fire is on in MWO, and would stop putting shots into team mates at the start of a match, just to test their weapons...
Maybe I should see about getting into a team for group drops....

completed C-Bill challenge with twenty something wins.
As to why? Not a lot of people playing clan lights, got lucky, my light ELO is probably my lowest of all weight classes because I don't typically play lights. The last one is probably the biggest part, going from seeing multiple top players on the other side every match to it only happening every other match made a big difference.
Played an hour or two Saturday, and for a couple matches Sunday... then since I was still placed well I grinded on Monday for a good while. I was working on eliting/mastering my Adders, so I went to bed when that was done.
EDIT: Also, speed dropping was a big part of it. I had 3 Adders ready to go, when I died or got stripped in a downhill match I left. Could have stayed around and tried to flamer them to death I guess, which is what I normally would do, but since I was limited on time I tried to jam pack as many matches in as I could.

95% of the time when people ask that I don't say anything I also stopped asking for "R" (locks)
I also added capture accelerator to my Missile Jager but I never mentioned it
People have some crazy ideas but oh well
The only thing I would say was "those guys are using coms” I think I typed it twice

Mostly done with stalker 5s; perhaps stalker 3F would have been better in retrospect.
I used the AMS overload module and I ran 2 ams. This was super helpful given all the lrms flying around.
My build was: max xl engine (310), 5 mlas, tag, 2 lrm15, 2 srm6.

See yah.
Im looking for the roflstomps and I want to be using my Banshees speed to get in and steal kills at the last moment with a nice big fat alpha, so I can get a bunch of assists and kills so I can cut a goddamn month off my grinding.
One word: Honor

Last tourny I effectively spent my whole weekend grinding to no end, was reward with 2nd place IS Heavy in a Jester. While I probably will do it again in the future (since I enjoy the game!) I had to work this weekend and take care of other matters. Satisfied nonetheless

As long as your contributing to your team it should be easy to get valid wins all the time. I pretty much had no issues with getting valid wins, it's the getting "wins" part thats hard, not just the "valid" part.
Why are people claiming it to be so difficult?

If you werent running a top Meta build over the weekend, you got crushed. If your team wasnt running them, you got crushed.
If there were Awesomes and another Banshee...I disconnected.
I was running only Awesomes and crushing teams all weekend. Was as high as 7th, finished 14th overall. And you know why? Because Awesomes have missles and Direwolves are just great big point sponges. I ended with 44 qualifying matches using energy and missles (my main build was a fast mech with 1LPL, 2MPL and LRM30).
Meta now isn't as strong as it used to be. Really only the dual guass is out of balance.

It was more the losses with high scores for most, I think.

And one of those matches was a personal best (with the Summoner, that is), lol.

In the beginning I found the drops fun but by the mid point of day two I was ready for it to be over and I quit caring at that point. The problem with the solo tourney system is that there is ZERO team play. It's the "all about me" crowd every drop. I was so tired of people running into your firing lines, cutting you off, running off on their own, charging the enemy team or trying to superimpose their mech between you and the target so they could deliver the killing blow. I was so happy when this ended. I much prefer the lance challenges.
