Even being ground bound it should be pretty strong if it can be that type of fast agile assault.

Its the AC/5 the Zeus Lance Commander is firing, of which is Burst Firing, which is what AC's do in BT/previous MW games, but not in MWO...

I know that's essentially a Zeus cockpit...

(Zeus)
but it's almost identical to the Battlemaster design they used. And this saddens me.

I really wished they looked different.
For example this sleeker cockpit on a Battlemaster.

(Actually upon closer inspection they are a little more different; one panel/angle size less for the Zeus. But that difference is barely noticed at first glance).
Got bigger worries, while people run about with rose color glasses.
Hitboxes.
First rule of MWO, is the In Game Model is pretty much ALWAY wider and boxier than the art. Some have already cried about the porky art (because apparently, in some alternate universe, the Zeus is a svelte and stylish Assault Mech?)
But our probable scenario? (XL unfriendly)

Worst case? (XL Deathtrap)

Best case (Unlikely)

combined with "staredown" weapon hardpoints.

You're forgetting the "V" bikini setup for the legs and pelvis.
But aside from that... it's a shame it didn't get hitboxes akin to Timber Wolf or Catapult.

Catapult being the worst of the examples but here, look at this but imagine legs encompassing the V shape of the pelvis, with a dabber into the CT and/or STs inside said V.

Spider, Raven and Atlas being among the favorites (good, but not ridiculous).
The Timber Wolf matches the lots overtop, side of the phallus being L-shaped as side torsos (with the shape being more |____ like that.) It encompasses everything from the shoulder to the phallus, and then runs along the phallus and cuts off just shortly before the tip, going half up the side of the phallus as well. The remainder (the nose cone, slightly before it, and a sloped version of the entire top half of the phallus) is CT. This creates a hitbox that is quite versatile even if all 3 hitboxes are as large or larger than Awesome's CT.

What could go wrong? It's 80 tons....
I wasn't too excited about any of the options, but I voted Cyclops because at least it would have more raw tonnage to work with.
Agreed, and PROBABLE ecm or hopefully role oriented quirks. (More likely than Binary Lasers, though still not by any means a certainty).
If it had any chance in hades I would have gone Charger because it had by far the most possible chassis diversity

I've got no problems wrecking face with TDRs.
The big question is, whether the shoulders are arms or ST.
If they're arms great shield mech...if not well.... yeah.

I dunno, looks as wide as any other assault's crotch with few exceptions. What Awesome pattern btw?

Would have been more interesting with the 9S2 but I figure they're saving that for the Hero.
Really? In all the artwork I have seen the Cyclops looks narrow and deep, where the Zeus looks very wide.
But yeah, as I predicted the Zeus looks pretty lackluster. Nothing that a non-JJ Victor or Awesome can't do really, except for the one variant with energy and three missiles, but still, don't think that one is gonna be a game changer. So yeah thanks for voting for the Zeus..

one, not all those hitbox maps are up to date. (could be wrong on that, too, since they did finally fix the head on the catapult)
2, pretty sure they had extended the AWS's arms into the shoulder pads. Or were supposed to. Haven't run one, so can't say offhand.

I think the Zeus in the MW2Merc intro was shooting the wrong stuff.
It looks like shooting an Large laser, then getting its arm blown off from the Atlas AC.
Then she curses and lifts the right arm stylishly and blows the atlas up with a fast stream of AC bullets.
From the game perspective, the first "gun" could not be an AC, as it should be (because it would be a fast stream) and the second gun could not be a LRM15 (because the sound is definitely AC sound and no missiles flying).
I would have prefered the 6S with balistics, but I hope for good quirks to the 9S to make some use of the hardpoints.
The Battlemaster already had the problem with the 6G having lower torso twist.
