19 here. Lowest of low settings, despite having a decent computer. Though it is starting to age.

I grew up with mechwarrior 4. My dad had played since the 2's. We still have some MW 3 games (pirates moon, etc.), but they don't run on our computers that well due to compatibility stuff..

I actually know not a single person who has even heard of BT or MW outside of my own family. Plenty of gamers as friends, but they're more of the Nintendo sort for the most part.

Lol, ikr, so many mechwarrior followers, but I never found a single one in any of hte several schools I ever went to. And besides hobby shops and stuff, never see people who know anything about Mechwarrior...

Hi everyone,

I'm just curious how old my fellow Mechwarriors are. Many people in this forum seem to be BT table toppers, so the average age should be pretty high for MWO. I've personally never played TT but have read most of the books starting in the early nineties. I'm 31 years old and play this game mostly because I like Battletech so much. And all the guys in my unit are well above 30. Is the whole MWO community 30+ or does Battletech still attract younger people as well? Just curious..

Greetings,

Donnerkeil

Joined the ranks of BattleTech in 1986. Now I am 48. Literally playing in this universe more than half my life.

31, mentally 9. Been playing TT since I was something like 10 or so with my Uncle... sometimes I still go down and play. As far as online, I've been playing since MW2 and also played BattleTech: Solaris on AOL... but just recently started playing MWO.

22 here, and my gaming community is made up of mostly late teens to mid twenties folks, so if you want to count that for the average go ahead (for convenience I'll round down and say there's 20 of them)

Oh, and I'd say some of the folks posting in this thread are a sign that either maturity has nothing to do with age, or anonymity effects older people the same way it effects kiddies :P

Put up an anonymous poll (allowing only one answer) and see what results you get :)

Started with Crescent Hawk, then Table Top, the books, had a Birthday at the Battle Tech Centers back in the day. The usual MW2, MC progression.
Last went to the Airlock in Kirkland WA that rebuilt 8 of the BattleTech Pods a few months ago.

So far, only 5 responders older than myself , and 2 at the same age.

Lets just say.... 6 years ago I was the Ultimate Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything.

Crescent Hawks: Inception and Revenge were my initial forays into the computerized version, along with AOL's Mechwarrior in 1993.

38 here. First title was mechwarrior 2 on DOS with the ghostbear expansion. But there real reason I'm here can be summed upped in a single name. Robotech.

Being born in 76 meant that for my early childhood there was no cartoon network. There wasn't even the disney channel. Cartoons were something you could only watch on Saturday mornings except for the few Disney specials. When they were on there was no cartoons that wasn't specifically for kids. Apparently someone or someones in America decided that if it's drawn it must only ever be for children..... Japanese come along and decide if it's drawn what story lines CAN'T we do now. So going from something like bugs bunny, tom and jerry, popeye, and the other assorted hanna barbara types to a cartoon that has like 90+% of all humanity being wiped out by alien laser hellfire was mind blowing to my tiny head. Like, that's real. That's how it should be when an ginormous amount of an alien armada parks in Earths orbit. I didn't feel patronized watching it. Not to mention how awesome the Destroids and the transformable Valkyrie looked and so my love of mechs was born. I never would of picked up mechwarrior 2 or all the ones to come after without robotech. Never would of got into Battletech either.

ROFL My brothers and I liked it so much that we read the novels that went almost hand in hand with the TV show. So later when we were able to watch the series again with our backyard satellite dish, it was on some Mexican channel...... That didn't stop us from watching every episode again cause we knew word for word the dialog. :) Looking back now I should of used it as an opportunity to learn Spanish.
Holy crap this thread has brought up a lot of memories.

45 here. Still a kid at heart.

Been through all forms of gaming from the Atari, VIC20, Commodore 64, TRS80, Apple 2e, Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer, Merc, Rolemaster, all those Scifi series...

And still play a fast light! in MWO :)

My wife doesn't understand me but my son sure does!

Cheers!
Eboli
