Well apart from watching mecha anime, played MW3 when i was younger..i don't know why but i love big robots :( :D

There's no required reason to love MW because of the mechs... it's a given. If you don't like big mechs and play this game... you're gonna have a bad time.

Well, let's see. I had been playing D&D for years when Battletech first come out, started playing that with a group of guys. Had most if not all of the Manuals and tech books, then when my kids got old enough I introduced them to BT,
I live just east of Indy, and in the circle center mall there was an arcade featuring Mechwarrior pods, fell in love and spent was to much money with my boys traveling 75 miles on the weekend to play.
Once the MW series came out for the computer there was no looking back, I still have to this day every MW game I purchased for the comp.
Since I'm also an avid reader, most of the novels are in my library collection, recently discovered some for the new E readers.
I am ex military so once the clans got introduces I knew they were where my heart was. Anyway that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Started playing Tabletop Battletech some 27 years ago. . (yes, I'm old), then all the PC games from Cresent Hawks Inception all the way to MW4 Mercs. I never bothered with MW:LL or the console for some reason, Watched the cartoon (cringe. . .) read some but not all of the books. I've never checked out Darkages or the Jihad series.

Right now I'm still involved in TT every week, fighting against the Clans and showing new players the ropes and introducing them to an awesome game.

Love it :D

No worries, I'm a hip youngster, and I think old people like you are awesome, you have my respect for doing what you loved in a time where these kind of activities aren't nearly as accepted as they are today. People like you are why I don't quit gaming and being a nerd. Because it's possible to balance it with a normal life. I'm not looked at like a Fat Spock at a convention. You paved the way to making games and comics and dice/paper acceptable. I'll pave the way to making them cool, even. Nerds are great. :( So more power to you, sir/ma'am, because together we'll play a (hopefully) awesome MW addition, and bring the franchise some of the attention it deserves.

I reinstalled Mechwarrior 2: Mercs this week-end and it works (Windows 7 64-bit) with MechVM. :(
Although it might crash on some mission endings or get an error.

Cheers, bruv. I figured it would work on the PC OK. I'm just so hyped for MWO that I don't think MW2 Mercs is going to scratch the itch, so to speak.

Awesome, lots of parallels to be drawn from the clans into military life, I recently finished my four and got out. They didn't pay me enough, and it personally wasn't as satisfying to me as I thought it would be. Still, going to college now, and I have to say life is moving forward. It's good to talk with you guys about MW, most of this stuff I'd have forgotten right now, I'd be surprised if I could name more than 20 mechs. That's a shame, it's a great disservice to the fiction and lore, especially considering how many of them there are. I'll try to be more like you guys in the future. :(

Too true, I've got MW4 working on a separate machine of mine, but honestly I don't think it's going to do it for me for now. :D

To be honest Mechcommander 2 is my first in the genre and I still love it. I'm not too good in driving a mech but I like to control a group of mech from above and cause some chaos. XD

I played both as well, they're the only titles besides the MW titles I've played, because I'm a humongous RTS fan as well. In fact, my love of MechWarrior is only rivaled by my love of Starcraft. The lore in both is very much to my liking. Only other fangasms I can think of is my deep and abiding love of Legend Of Zelda titles. That's pretty much it haha.

Let's see...must have been back in 1991. I was a new Airman in the Air Force at my first duty station (Homestead AFB, FL) and was over at a friend's apartment and his roommate was playing this cool game on his Amiga. It was a turn-based, hex game with Mechs! I watched in amazement and wanted some time to give it a try too. Had a blast with it...and when I was at a Temporary Duty Assignment at an exercise in Nevada I came across a MechWarrior game that was in the discount bin at some store. I didn't even own a computer yet but knew I would very soon so I bought the game. When the novels set in the BattleTech Universe started coming out, I grabbed as many as I could find and read all I could about it.

Fast Forward to about 1995/96 or so...and I did have a computer by then...and a dial-up Internet connection. I joined this service called MPlayer where I could play all these fun games online with other people. I had been playing over on one called The Sierra Network (I think) but MPlayer was something different and it had VOICE CHAT! As luck would have it, MechWarrior 2 was one of the games you could play on MPlayer. I had already played the heck out of the single player portions of the game and now it was time to get online and play against/with others. Joined up with one of the Clans on MPlayer and CaptRosha was born. Played every MechWarrior title that came out since. Seem to recall beta testing an MMO type of game around 2001 or so. BattleTech Online or something? I was sad it never made it out.

Yeah, it has been a very long time since I had last played MW2: Mercs (and I used only keyboard back then I think + playing on easy -hey I was a kid :(-), and now even with mouse on normal, I can get my butt handed to me.

But it's fun seeing the old PPC "energy balls" and how graphics used to be back then.

Mechwarrior 2. I had no clue about clans or factions or anything but that reveal where the mechs are marching n the moon and the earth comes into view, that was a pretty special moment in 1998 video games.

From there, mercenaries appealed to my economic sensibilities and I Played that to death. Then ghost bears legacy (not as good and a bit corny although the Kodiak reveal was awe inspiring).

I thought mechwarrior 3 in spite of not really capturing the same narrative weight was great in terms of gameplay and being able to repair out in the field.

I never played mechwarrior 4. I had moved on to duke nukem at the time and would soon move to consoles entirely.

This game will be the first PC game I have played in nearly 10 years.

I discovered MW2 when it first came out, moved on to online matches using Kali at the time. Made some online friends on Kali and started working on Badkarma.net. Played with a Thrustmaster F22 pro/TQS/RCS, ordered a Voodoo1 because of the MW2 glide version (the game didn't come out till after the cards were made). Became a fan of the BattleTech world, amassing a large collection of their products. As part of Badkarma met and tested most of the the Mecha games, seeing some of the behind the scences manuvering (this isn't always a good thing for a fan).

Its great that you are bringing a new Jenneration to the game that spans the Atlas :D

Terrible puns asside, I was introduced to the MW2 PC game and played most PC titles to date including my favorite game series of all times (MC1 and MC2). Apart from that I used to watch the Battletech cartoons back when they were current. I happened to find out about MWO by a chance thread in a Guild Wars forum. It would be great to see this game getting more and better advertizing, as there doesnt seem to have been anything really done to inform people apart from mouth-to-mouth propaganda between fans.

I picked up the Jade Pheonix trilogy in a bookstore, then found the tabletop game in the early 90s. I have a vague recollection of using a Pheonix Hawk on an AOL game I had a lot of fun with most of the computerr games over the years, but still have a lot of minis to paint.

I read that first book and found a definitive cut below the quality of Stackpole's Clan invasion trilogy. I'll probably go back to it but man, that book was just dull.

By the Bloodnames of the Founders, and many moons ago...

I happened to walk into what passed for a 'gaming store' back in those days in Evansville, Indiana on the first day they were putting MW TT on the shelf. I asked the guy (actually his name was Guy haha) what it was and he told me. Turns out Guy was connected with FASA and helped design a few of their games (Star Trek RPG I think?), and his gravitas with FASA got us in early.

Therefore I will make claim that I bought and played MW TT before noon on the very first day it was available in the universe.

Subsequently I played every expansion, and every single computer based game (even the Amiga version) of the game that has existed.

Suffice to say, when I got word there MIGHT be a new MW coming out, I found this website, signed up, and have hovered in the background ever since. Now that Aug 7th is closing in, I intend to get more active here and hopefully find a kick-a** group of killers to join with and stake our claim in the galaxy

"Our one world cannot stand alone any longer, we must reach out, forge new bonds, and seek friends among the stars, so that our children can stay strong and free."
-Lucien Davion in a speech in support of the Crucis Pact, 2317

EDIT: PS JROCK

I think you should change your sig to read, "Drive it like you salvaged it" haha

MechWarrior 2/3/4/Mercs(2/4), MechCommander Gold/2 Video games.
BattleTech Novels. I've got 3/4 of them in paperback and ALL of them in text documents on my Hard Drive.
BattleTech Cartoons. I've got them all on my computer's Hard Drive.
Sim Pods. Used to go to Wizards of the Coast in Seattle as a kid and play on their pods (I still have my score sheets!)

I never got to play the TT game, but I wouldn't mind playing that too
