What killed MW:DA for me was Age of Destruction. I hung in there for a little bit after, but needing pilot and special equipment cards was too much. Especially since the only way it seemed to get them was to buy them off of someone else. Before, a unique would run you about $20. Now, it was $20 for the unique and $20 for the pilot and loadout. It was too much for me to keep up with.
It was a shame, because I have a really nice collection. I have around 100 boxed uniques( I can't remember what they called them). I have the Paladin Atlas(the first one) and the Mason Dunne MCIII.
I also managed to win the AURORA CLASS DROPSHIP at a 2000 point faction pure tournament. I got with a Dragon's fury army that ran all evades. It was awesome.
I still have everything, I just don't know what I'm going to do with it.

Each player got 300 points to build an army in santioned play. Sometimes rules stipulated more. It depends on what the Wizkids set up for that month. Depending on the scenario, each play got to place a certain number of terrain piece(2D pieces cut out of felt usually.) The game map was 3ft X 3ft(usually felt also.) with deployment zones at either end. Each player gets one turn or order for every 150 pts. of army. This means you could only give a move order, vent order or a fire order to two units for each turn. Non-mech pieces could only take two consecutive turns before having to rest. Mechs could take constant orders at the risk of overheating. Basically, it's futuristic combat in slow motion. There was a 50 min. time limit for tournament play.
I played many non-sanctioned pick up games with large 1000 to 3000 point armies on big game tables with 3D terrain. Those games would last hours.

What sort of strategies do you guys employ when you play the clix game? Do you blitz the opponent? Surround them with hefty mechs? There's so many differnt ways to handle futuristic battle in slow motion. I was never overly patient and tended to run in guns blazing. That same strategy is why I suck at online games like Halo...

I had pretty much the exact same experience. The CBT crew was no longer interested in the complex games we used to play so we all just sort of drifted away from anything Battletech short of the MW3 & MW4 games. Randomly while at the FLGS looking at the latest M:tG set of the time, I wondered over to the wargaming section and saw the DA display. "Rejoice, BT shall once again be played by us". Oddly enough we all ended up with almost pure factions through trading among ourselves and the small band of rotating players at the FLGS so the cost of getting what we were looking for was actually not bad.
Echo the time of the great revision with new rulebook, pilot cards etc along with rotating power gamers (near military base so there seemed to always be one that joined the games) and the increased cost of collecting and forming the factions we wanted [cant forget to suppliment with merc units of course] killed that inspiration along with the general decline not long after. A major contributor may have also been the ease of minmaxing through the system's flaws.
From what I remember -- I still liked the grouping, handling of combined forces, and artillery overall. The minatures were an odd scale overall to readily use premade terrain at the time but were not tiny fragile nor super obtrusive. The material used and prepainted status actually was desired to me and a few others as it took pressure off of transporting the vast armies we collected without fear of repeated wear or replacements. Some of us took liberties with a favored few units through custom paint of course and the larger models allowed us to take the customizing to more liberal and precise levels.
As mentioned in another thread in this TT section of the forums and lightly on this topic, a blend of the Clix figures and quicker rules along with expansion Tech Levels like CBT may be viable with some tweeks. Possibly even with another thread's idea of smart pieces that help track things likes stats and auto calculate charts n rolls.
Sadly, OT again, I just sold the last remaining pieces of my Dragons Fury army on Ebay not but a few months ago including two copies of the unique Jupiter, the unique Marauder II "Bounty Hunter", and the Blitz Hawk from the AoD starter that I kept because I loved it's looks. Had almost every Dragon's Fury unit up till the release of the Draconis Combine forces which I was going to switch to.
For those that still have their Clix figures -- I found a system to vary the terrain by happenstance of another game system: Heroscape. The terrain fits the Clix figures rather well and lends to some rules expansion along the lines of CBT.

Sometime next year we're thinking about hosting a small panel at our local anime convention, Tekkoshocon, located in Pittsburgh PA to see if we can rally more troops. This was one of my first introductions to the Mechwarrior universe and really enjoyed it, and I would love if Wiz Kids could bring it back.

I would be interested in seeing how you make the depth of the game closer to Battleteck. Please do!
Thanks.

I got laid off and had a child in the 2 years as it broke down
I found out it had died 6 months after it had folded
I tended to run pure Rebuplic faction
But I have a few pieces still around
Yes I have a Mason Dune
1 for play and 1 as a collectors still in box

i really loved the old style sir in which the pilots are pre-fitted into the mech and fixed weapons.
i really hate the idea that some pilot are going to board a mech and arm new weapons.
if ever there will be a chance that i can buy steel wolves lot, ill play the old ruling since there is no hard and fast rule now that wizkids has been shut down. am i right?
