In my copy of the 3050 TRO it lists the 5M as having a production date of 3050.

Which version? Sarna quoting 3052 refers to Technical Readout: 3050 Upgrade page 42:

Quote

More recently, Nimakachi used recovered Star
League technology to create the VT-5M in a bid to
make the Vulcan more effective against other ’Mechs.
After producing a limited production run of the upgraded
design in 3052, Nimakachi scaled up production to
produce twenty a month until their Tematagi production
plant was destroyed in 3069.

But yeah, when in doubt tend to trust MUL.

Updated the original post's IS Assignment Table with the King Crab and added bonus table for the probable next new mechs.

MWO IS mechs (year 3039):

The second Draconis Combine column is for Kurita A rated units (they have much more old Star League stuff).

Extra IS mechs (strong candidates to be added soon):

The next IS-Mechs I would love to see:

- Nightstar
- Maelstrom
- Spector

...and of course if someday the licence-problems with the unseen mechs are resolved my favourite mech - the Marauder / Marauder II.

These are cool mechs that appear later in the timeline.

The Nightstar will have to wait until MWO is set in 3065 (for its third variant).
Maelstrom: 3062.
Spector: 3067 or 3068.

About the Marauder... very unlikely (specially the Unseen) but... a lot can happen in the next few years, right?

How long have Battletech fans been saying that? 20-30 years now?

Well, Nightstar, Spector and Maelstrom are all Starleague-Mechs, so they can be introduced right now.

They just appeared first in the hardwarehandbooks with later dates, which doesn´t mean that they didn´t exist before.

With a good redesign that has next to nothing in common with the Officer's Battle Pod from macross, then I think it could get an okay.

As much as I like the one done by shimmering sword, I can see too much macross in it for it be viable. Even n the MAD-4X is cutting it close, but is acceptable. So I'd say use it, but don't have the AC 5 hanging outside of the torso and it should be good.

So you are saying to just make a IS-tech Mad Cat? Sounds good to me.

Yes, but they don't have the 3 required variants until the 3060's.

Might be fine for you, but the blocky redesigns that have been made so far are not appealing to me.

If you jump ahead a few years, sure, but the Timber Wolf is just a Marauder with Clan tech, replacing the AC with missile racks in some configurations. Other configurations, the missile racks are deleted, and it could pass for a Marauder easily.

PGI or the community should not bound themself so close to the fact, that there are not three variants to one mech-typ.
So my opinion is, that there´s no problem in introducing Star-League-Mechs or other wich have not 3 variants listed before 3050.

Yes & no. I mean ostensibly we're taking the role of people living in 3050 and using what's available at that time. Most of the mechs that we can purchase (and just because most of us have an entire company worth of mechs, if not several companies worth of mechs is the 'yes' part) are the ones that actually are available for purchase at this time. There are a bunch of lost variants that aren't being produced anywhere and those aren't included.

The ones that are available are ones that have continued to be produced over the centuries, like the Shadow Hawk-2H. Other mechs are missing key components, are lost, or just not liked so they cannot be purchased.

That said, PGI has allowed a bunch of variants that allow Star League era mechs to be built.

Probably not - since it takes a 60STD engine.

But it does give hope!

Can someone confirm if he said the medium was a slam dunk or the light?

Because he def said one was a "slam dunk" everyone will love and the other one he sort of hesitated and it was more "its cool too" status.
