(Anyway, the day the Macross mechs are released in MWO, and PGI is not sued, will be a watershed in Battaletech history. After this, everything is possible)

This is one of the few new designs of old mech's I love. It's looks like the pain train is pulling into death station all ready to punch everybody's ticket. CHOO CHOO!

You don't necessarily want the 5D model. Those are rocket tubes. Basically one shots. :)

I'm happy to see PGI did the clan omnimechs models with the original "modular" parts.

Posted Image

Dire Wolf and Warhawk share the same legs and arms;
Kit Fox and Adder share the same legs and left arm;
Timber Wolf and Summoner share the same right arm.

So, what can we conclude?

Fire Moth and Mist Lynx will share the same legs;
Viper will have the Nova's legs and the Kit Fox's right arm;
Ice Ferret will have the Viper's right arm;
Mad Dog will have the Timber Wolf's legs and the Ice Ferret's left arm;
Hellbringer will have the Summoner's legs and right arm;
Gargoyle and Executioner will share the legs and left arm.

(it surely makes the PGI artists' life easier)

that chart drives me nuts though. Thor is specifically noted for it's height, being "one of the tallest mechs" ever. and it's shorter than the Hellbringer, which is not noted for it's height at all?

There are a number of other Clan mechs that use legs or arms from the original 3050, like the Shadowcat, Cougar, Pouncer and Phantom. Some are close enough that stuff could be reused with only a minor amount of extra work, like the Black Lanner, Ebon Jaguar and Mongrel. It's a bonus of using common parts and pods. :)

The one thing I don't like about this is the sharing of the Mad Cat/Timberwolf's legs with the Vulture/Mad Dog, because the MWO Timberwolf legs are significantly thicker than those original Timberwolf legs, and one of the things I always liked about the Vulture was its gangly appearance, which would disappear with significantly thicker limbs.

In my dreams I see them making the T-Wolf's legs thinner when they realize they will look so bad in the Vulture.

The Ost-mechs are among the designs where I do indeed prefer the reseen redesigns significantly more than the original (vaguely Zentraedi battlepod based) Macross unseen ones. Because, let's face it, the original Osts were Ugly with a capital U. I don't think I've ever met anyone who had much good to say about those.

There are several very promising mechs on that chart, but I cannot wait for the Hellbringer - such awesomeness in that design...

Also, aside from the War Hawk, I just noticed that every mech that was introduced was on the right side of the chart... I wonder if that was intentional, why they picked all of the heavier mechs within those classes, and why the War Hawk instead of the Executioner?

They are not spot on. Look at the Nova and Viper. With how they are constructed they would not be at all able to torso twist. But they redid the Nova in MWO so it can. They would have to do the same thing to the Viper.

Only one of the mechs brought in (Summoner) isn't a chicken walker... With the earlier forum rage(?) about not enough chicken walkers I wonder if that wasn't part of the decision making process as well. IMO, every Clan mech from the 3050 TRO should be brought in sooner rather than later just to complete the set.

Executioner has MASC - the same for the Fire Moth.

Fire Moth aside, they simply chose the most popular/well known mechs.

True, but I think the almost perfect consistency with the weights is more likely. It may be why they made the one deviation with the War Hawk, though.

I agree that they should all be added quickly, but I think the same thing about the rest of the mechs in general. I love seeing new mechs in the game, and am just immensely glad that there is such a huge amount of mechs available to add in the future!

While the Hellbringer is a great mech in general, I honestly want that one first just because it is the closest we will likely ever get to a Warhammer...

The Mad Dog will then be a chicken-walking Archer and we already have our Marauder in the Timber Wolf, but the Hellbringer/Warhammer similarity is almost perfect (aside from the 5 ton difference...).

Ah, I forgot about MASC. That makes perfect sense, then. With that one exception due to technical issues, PGI chose the heaviest two of each class across the board. It is too consistent to ignore the weight bias.

I disagree about the "most popular" statement, though, as I think the Mad Dog is far more popular than some of the others. It just happens that Clan Heavy mechs are universally the best mechs available, so it would have been difficult to choose regardless.

There are 11 omnimechs in Mechwarrior 2. Of these, only the Adder is not in the Clan pack (the other light in MW2 is the Fire Moth, which couldn't be added to MWO because of the lack of MASC and the absurd speed).

Mechwarrior 2 was the first MW great success in video games and introduced a lot of fans (including me) to the Battletech universe.

You see, Mist Lynx, Viper and Ice Ferret did not appear in MW2 (or in the expansion), and are the less known "starter" Clan omnimechs.
