They are a unit that rewards thinking outside the box, as well as being extremely flexible, and great at scouting, fire support, and capturing objectives.
Just don't try to use them like an ASF or battle mech, and your good.

Wolverine and Thunderbolt.
Wow, that's it. How far we've come...
Any speculation on what these heroes will be?
Also, bump totally awesome thread with legitimate non-lockable reason.

Does it need one? It's awesome, that's all the reason it needs.

Wolverine would hopefully be the one piloted by Salome Ward-Kell: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Salome_Ward. No real details on it, so it is a blank slate as far as load out/hard points.
For the Thunderbolt, my guess would be the TDR-5S-T Thunderbolt Tallman, since the other two notable pilots were from later in the timeline and the mechs use technology we do not currently have in the game.
"The personal ‘Mech of Bremond DMM commander Leftenant-General Mary Tallman during the DCMS's Third Succession War invasion of Galtor III, only the large laser remains, with the rest of the standard weaponry replaced with a brace of four medium lasers in each side torso. The remaining weight and space is devoted to eight additional heat sinks."

9x pew, actually, since they are not pulse lasers. You could still equip them, but it would not work like the WubBolt does, since the quirks would be for MLs, not MPLs.
(Still, it would outperform the Nova, sadly...)

Notable 'Mechs and Mechwarriors
Captain "Dashing John" MacAllister
Commander of MacAllister's Support Company of the Eridani Light Horse, "Dashing John" models himself after the heavy cavalry officers of ancient Earth history. A student of Napoleon, he is famous for going into battle with Terran-French martial music blaring from the external cockpit speakers of his Thunderbolt, the Toujours L'Audance. His men nearly worship him, and many have adapted bits of old-style Napoleonic uniforms as their trademark. MacAllister is known for his rear-guard actions in support of the Eridani Light Horse, and has tallied 26 kills of his own.
MechWarrior Clare Sarton
Part of Keniston's Assault Lance of House Liao's Seventh St. Ives Armored Cavalry, Clare Sarton is quite young to have achieved a reputation among MechWarriors. Most of her fame is based on the Forth (and final) battle of Oasis 326 on the desert planet Daniels. Here she single-handedly disabled five enemy 'Mechs in as many minutes as they charged down the dunes toward her lance's position. It was mainly Sarton's speed and dexterity at the controls of her Thunderbolt, the Wild One, that forced the Davion attackers to withdraw. With the arrival of additional Davion reinforcements, however, the Liao forces eventually had to evacuate Daniels some weeks later.

Just like the Deaths Knell, IV-Four, Pretty Baby, etc. And just like them, or the Gray Deaths, totally made up load outs.

3025-era TOEs in Marik actually listed entire companies or more of the design, but the LAM was a design that lost it's technological support worst and most in the Succession War + era, especially after the Stinger LAM factory on Irece was wrecked during the Clan war era. The LAM is a hangar queen, and significant use of the idea would only come into being with the Word of Blake's Clantech-level designs- which being WoB-unique were then nearly universally rejected in the same way Blakist Celestial Omnimechs were as symbols of a hated regime.
That being said, the LAM only really shines in cases when a unit needs more integrated air support options than an aerospace fighter produces- something most successfully done with the Mk 1 Wasp LAM with it's 5-ton bomb bay (that even let it deliver Arrow IVs!), a design that was in turn refitted with an LRM-10, and in turn THAT was the inspiration for the Valkyrie light 'Mech that is a hallmark of early Davion scout 'Mech design.
SLAM VME-1E or 1K ...115 tons of ComStar madness ftw?

I vote for that one. Lots of fluff to use on a great geo and camo design.

Ohhh both are very promising! I think the "Wild One" will get the spot, since the other name is maybe too big (but it would gain some points with the French community).

I like Dashing John, if only because as an Eridani Light Horse hero, it would hopefully be a jumper. I'd like another THUD that jumps, please. The Wild One will probably be it, though. The fluff text just screams a fully quirked mech to me.

Salome Ward's...
In NGNG Wolverine hero thread:
Strum Wealh said:
The best description of a Fire Lance that I can readily find is as follows: "Halfway between Support and Heavy Lances. Medium or heavy, mostly long-range, but at least 1 with good close-range for safety. Heavy hitters with good armor...provide supporting/covering fire and also mix it up.
Good choices are Archer, Trebuchet, Warhammer, Griffin"
It seems pretty clear that Salome Ward's Wolverine is meant to be the close-range safety/brawler in her Fire Lance (which also fits with the Wolverine's intended design as a "fast strike 'Mech" - that is, as a striker), and would be outfitted as such (that is, equipped with a relatively high-rating engine and primarily armed with close-range weaponry).
The name chosen for my proposal - which is supposed to represent a modern (e.g. late 3040s) upgrade for Salome Ward's 'Mech - is "Crimson Sunrise", as a reference to both the Kell Hounds' use of red as an official color, and to the film Red Dawn (whose protagonists form a militia group called the Wolverines).
WVR-CS "Crimson Sunrise"
Pilot: Salome Ward, Kell Hounds
Tonnage: 55
Engine: 275 XL
Top Speed: 81.0 kph
Max Engine Rating: 345
Armor: 370 (Standard)
Internal Structure: Standard
Torso Movement:
125 degrees to each side
30 degrees up and down
Arm Movement:
30 degrees to each side
35 degrees up and down
Weapons & Equipment:
Left Torso: 1 Artemis-enhanced SRM-4
Head: 1 Medium Laser
Center Torso: 1 TAG unit
Right Torso: 1 Artemis-enhanced SRM-4
Right Arm: 1 Ultra AC/5
x2.0 tons of UAC/5 ammunition
x2.0 tons of SRM ammunition
Hardpoints:
Left Torso: 1 Missile
Head: 1 Energy
Center Torso: 1 Energy
Right Torso: 1 Missile, 1 AMS
Right Arm: 1 Ballistic
Heat Sinks: 10 Double (all in Engine)
Jump Jets: 5 (5 Max)
ECM Capable: No
Module Slots: 2
Movement Archetype: Medium
Quirks: 10% bonus to Acceleration, 10% bonus to Reverse Speed Multiplier, 10% bonus to Turn Speed
30% C-Bill Bonus
The "Crimson Sunrise" is designed to be a "fast strike 'Mech" in the sense of maneuverability rather than raw speed. The CS shines is in its ability to accelerate and decelerate much more quickly than the other Wolverines & its ability to change the facing of its legs far more quickly, allowing it to stutter-step & dodge-and-weave far better than its counterparts (and most other 'Mechs of the same size, for that matter). This added maneuverability is offset by the lower Max Engine Rating (345 for the CS, versus 360 for the 6R & 7K and 375 for the 6K) and a mid-range Max Jump Jet Count (5 for the CS, versus 7 for the 6R & 7K and 0 for the 6K); the basic Wolverines will hold the advantage in terms of potential top speed & potential jumping ability.
The "Crimson Sunrise" carries fewer weapon hardpoints than the other Wolverines (five (5) hardpoints for the CS, versus six (6) hardpoints for each of the other Wolverines). However, the CS benefits from having a more even distribution of hardpoints - there are weapon hardpoints in all three torso locations (a single missile launcher hardpoint in each side-torso, and a single energy weapon in the Center Torso) in addition to the traditional energy weapon hardpoint in the 'Mech's head, while the Right Arm features a single ballistic weapon hardpoint.
The starting loadout consists of a quick-firing Ultra Autocannon backed up by twinned SRM-4 launchers mated to Artemis IV units for enhanced accuracy & damage concentration, while the Head-mounted Medium Laser - a common feature of all Wolverines - provides an additional close-range punch as well as a good last-ditch "zombie" weapon. Finally, a belly-mounted TAG unit allows the CS to call in LRM support from the rest of its Fire Lance as it dances through enemy formations or takes on the role of "bird dog".
In most other respects, however, the "Crimson Sunrise" is broadly similar to the other Wolverines - the same number of Module slots, the same Movement Archetype, the same number & location of AMS hardpoints, the same arm & torso movement ranges & speeds, and the same lack of ECM capability; the differences are intended to make the CS handle significantly differently from the other Wolverines without being blatantly & outright superior (or inferior) to them.

Thunderbolt: the Toujours L'Audance, piloted by John MacAllister, Eridani Light Horses, with "napoleonic" painting pattern; or the Wild One, piloted by Clare Sarton, House Liao's Seventh St. Ives Armored Cavalry, with mobility quirks. Both are "cavalry" Thunderbolts - so larger maximum engine would be nice.
Wolverine: unknown name, piloted by Salome Ward, Kell Hounds, close range brawler.

Removes all weaponry but the large laser and add's 4 medium lasers to each of the side torsos. All remaining weight is devoted to heat sinks. It's an energy boat and unlikely to be added considering other TDR variants. This unit was in the Third Succession War.
Potential Hard Points
Right Arm: 1 Energy
Right Torso: 1 AMS, 4 Energy
Left Torso: 4 Energy

Panther: Katana Kat, the personal mech of Minobu Tetsuhara!
The protagonist of the Wolves on the Border novel the mech which was a family heirloom was handed down to his younger brother, Fuhito Tetsuhara, when he was forbidden by his superiors to pilot a mech for a time. He was later given a Dragon to pilot when he was given the task of building and training the Ryuken regiments which were to be fashioned after the style of the very successful Wolf's Dragoons mercenary unit.
Nothing less will be acceptable than the mech made famous by the "Ironman" himself. The very model of an honorable DCMS samurai!

Maybe too simple - although the Mech could easy be made by the Zeus-6S - I would be curious about the paint crime the artists will create with a name like Leonidas.
Personally i would like to see a Zeus that has more similarities regarding the loadout with the ZEU-10WB or the ZEU-6Y or ZEU-9WD-X
