And now that that's off my chest I shall return to civility. Given it's huge engine and hardpoints, I think the Assassin would fare quite well in MWO. I would prefer to see the Clint and the Vulcan next however (and in that order). I am a lover of ballistics and jumpjets. Clint comes first because it will be hard not to see Bishop's Vulcan in MWO.

Seeing how our Special Urbanmech has the geometry similar to Ironhawk's fan-made design (with the sloped roof and mean look).
I could see the ® or (S) variant of the Vulcan getting at least some reference to your design

That's why the Assassin just screams best choice to me. Big engine, JJ. It has the speed & maneuverability to make it a great missile brawler/light hunter or even a fast lrm boat/pest. Plus it looks like it could have fairly good hitboxes.
This is the common pic. https://encrypted-tb...zD_x4OP_3C9E2qw
Is this an Assassin?

Bishop's Assassin is really great as well.

As a person who runs Ballistic 30 tonners (Urbanmech with LBX-10, not even kidding, it's a hobo with a shotgun) and does fairly well with it. I can say that i'd run the hell out of a ballistic 40 tonner (not saying it would be optimal or anything, but fun>viability)
I once got separated from the team and got ambushed by 2 other lights, a Commando and a Jenner (both completely fresh) and took 'em out both (though i did end up pretty roughed up at the end)

And because of that I'd rather see the Assassin in MWO, because I fear I'd be disappointed by any other Vulcan than Bishop's.

As far as the Clint goes for some reason I've never had a fondness for it. I can't put my finger on it but for some reason it's always been a matter of "Oh, right, the Clint. That's a thing that exists, isn't it?" to me when brought up in comparison to other mechs of its class. It's always felt like a bit of a wallflower. The sort of person who's around, but nobody remembers or notices unless you point it out to them.

40 tonners:
#1 The Assassin, missile boat with some lasers. This one is my preferred 40 tonner. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Assassin
#2 The Clint, ballistics & lasers, JJ. Decent engine cap for it's weight. Would probably be a 40 ton panther 10P. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Clint
#3 Hermes II, same as Clint, no JJ but bigger engine. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Hermes_II
#4 The Sentinel, mixed loadtout, no JJ. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Sentinel
#5 The Vulcan, Ballistic & energy, JJ, good engine cap. http://www.sarna.net...can_(BattleMech)
#6 The Whitworth, missile & lasers, smaller engine, JJ. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Whitworth
Which of these 6 would be the best addition to MWO? As I stated I like the Assassin the best.
Yes, Assassin would be the best (we don't have a jumping SRM boat of that size).
I also like the Vulcan (because it's scarecrow looks).
Whitworth and Hermes II are the last in my list (boring designs, boring variants).

8 weapons? I believe it will have more like 6 (let's not forget the poor Cicada has only 4-6 hardpoints), which will give good 2x SRM/6s + 4x medium lasers or 2x medium pulse lasers + 4 SRM/4s builds.
OK, lets see the variants up close:

Its (P) like the P in the Panther (ballistics on a Panther - heresy)
or the (P) for the Enforcers
or the (P) for the insane ballistic build for the Shadow Cat

I know the PGI's custom variants, I just didn't know you got inside information about their Assassin's P variant.

A (P) variant I think could be interesting would be:
RA
RT 2M
CT 1M
H 1E
LT 2M
LA
The head laser is for tag & either ×5 lrm5 or 1 narc & 4 lrm 5. You could also do ×5 streak 2s & tag.

What about a 3M in each side torso? That could work too.

I'm betting that if the Assasin or Vulcan got engine caps for a slower, gunzier feel in the tonnage slot between Panthers and Blackjacks, they'd get more hardpoints accordingly, like the 8 that Odanan accidentally guessed.
Edit: Then again, the Vindy got no more than 7, and the Panther never clears 5 (generally 4) so ... maybe not.

The engine cap is based on the stock engine and would be theoretically limited to engine 340, like the Cicada 3C (which has the same stock engine). 3 hardpoints becoming 8 is too much of an inflation (6 is more than enough).

PGI doesn't seem to base hardpoints off of engine size, otherwise the slow Ravens would have (back when they had their 245 engine cap) had more hardpoints than the Raven 3L. We'd also see more hardpoints on mechs like the Vindicator, but once again nope...
The factors that make PGI differentiate hardpoint counts seem to be ECM, MASC, and sometimes JJs.
