I am not really a fan of Goliath and Scorpion, although I do like a few four-legged Mechs. The Barghest is lovely. It's probably the best Katherine Davion has done for the Lyran forces.

But in 3052... too many two-legged, in-timeframe Mechs to be done first for both, Clan and IS.
And not enough quads to bother.
Even at 3060, we'll only get 1-3 packs worth (12 total spread between IS and Clan), and those would need future variants, and quite a few PGI specials.

Maybe one day, we'll get them, but I'd bet it's an incredibly low priority for PGI, especially with the 3-4 they could implement now vs the amount of work it'd take.

Yeah, sorry Bish, I read no attitude in Strum's post. He did what he always does, divulge unto us his vast knowledge of TT and novel lore (and I sure there are more lores in there too). :)

Rough day perhaps? :(

To be fair, it's not so much "vast knowledge" on my part as "probably-somewhat-above-average knowledge, plus being good at looking things up". ;)

The old Goliath does have a turret, but the turret doesn't have a full field of fire- that is, it only fires into the normal arc of the torso, much like the old Wolverine has it's laser in the head in a "ball turret" configuration.

I found is a fascinating take on the Viper (aka Black Python), which is usually one of the uglier designs in Battletech, but see:

The Mech itself might be quite interesting, kind of Clan Marauder with more hardpoints. One variant even comes with ECM.

.... and it is in-timeframe.

Too organic in execution for my tastes, but the basic concept is indeed interesting.

I know what you mean. It does not scream 'Battletech!' yet, but it illustrates that even the ugliest designs can be made visually attractive by re-interpreting them. (And I think the Mech itself is one of the more interesting Clan options left to explore).

While I agree with you 100%, it is, like you said, an "interesting" concept and almost anything is better than...

Yes, Black Python has the potential to look amazing.
And sure, it is the best Clan non-omni heavy by far. (sorry, Grizzly)

A Clan BattleMech pack with Black Python and Bane would rock.

Make it a magnificent specimen. But not too beaucoup. Posted Image

Someone glued a pair of locust legs to a space ship, then added some alien robot arms and then glued a rat tail onto to back end for reasons. It obvious that when the Clans went into their exile they left all the mech designers behind because that thing was designed by a ten year old.

Here is an acceptable canon version of the Black Python:

I MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH prefer the top one. Now give it the PGI style treatment and I think we have another saved mech. :)

Save the mechs!!! >.> <.<

I've been looking at mechs recently with the idea of finding a good mid weight ecm capable assault.

My findings are thus:
- Gunslinger, high mounted energy, mobile arms, small engine, JJ, ecm.
http://www.sarna.net..._Gunslinger.jpg

- Second up is the Cyclops. Personally I'm not a fan. It'll likely be a lighter but faster & less tough Atlas. Because of it's reliance on ammo based weapons its not as attractive. It'd be much quicker than the Gunslinger but none of it's variats specifically has Ecm. I'm mentioning it because ppl assume it'd get DDC treatment.

I didn't find any others that fit all the criteria for new mech.

You know, I have a soft spot for the Gunslinger. James Goree, the commander of my favourite unit, the Defiance Self-Protection Force, used one to defend Hesperus II against Skye Seperatists. And being a Defiance product, I like it anyway.

In game it has its potential, as you outlined: ECM, plenty of high mounted energy hardpoints, two large ballistics, JJ, etc.
For my taste, its reactor is too weak. I prefer fast Mechs and JJ don't offer the same mobility boni as they do in TT.

That being said, I would totally support its inclusion in MWO, even if I would like to see the Spartan first - because it is fast.

I guess not many people got the reference... :/

Anyway, when (if) the Black Python features the game, (it's a strong heavy Battlemech candidate) I will be repainting the concept art in black and add a lot of decals like: "full metal jacket", "born to kill", "eightball", "magnificent specimen", "Alabama Blacksnake", "beaucoup"...

Anybody else notice what looks like dual AMS and four torso-mounted energy points (2 below the newly-high-mounted ballistics, 2 under the chin)?

I'm kinda thinking this is a generic-rigged model for the Jester and K2, like a tester-model.

Yes, it is. But it has proper PPCs again. And the Ballistics are higher.

And thankfully, it WON'T (hopefully) have the beak, which 1) would piss some founders off, and 2) I hate with a passion, anyhow.

I certainly wasn't thinking the K2 was getting 2 more energy (even though it used to have them) or a second AMS.
