Honestly if it's so great why are there about 10 threads about engine decoupling and 1 dedicated to the Dire awolf and Spirt Bear.

For the same reasons that people are complaining about the new skill trees: they are too lazy to try it out, don't consider that other people may use varied builds instead of a single cookie cutter for every mech, and for the simple fact that people will always complain.

The base twist is too low period, and assaults SHOULD NOT be required to skill into mobility to perform as assaults! Sure the option is there but should not be required! Because new people start out with 91 skill points right?!?

I'm an assault player and I think they are fine. Because of the extra armor/structure, they are even better than before.

Odanan, keep in mind, Imperius has, by his own admission, been playing nothing but Dire Wolves. His perception is bound to be somewhat skewed due to the Dire Wolf's natural sluggishness.

On another note... does the release of the new Clan IIC heroes in September mean we won't get any new chassis until October?

Given that the only new IS chassis are Uziel and Annihilator, this would be really bad news. (...somewhat better news for my wallet though).

Well, they are making them in packs of four now.

Few points of note around this:

The Chris Lowrey/Paul Inouye interview on the civil war stuff stated older chassis would be using old weapon model placeholders of new tech, until they're retrofitted. In the mean time old chassis will also be getting some much needed weapons geo TLC (like we've already seen on the Quickdraw and Vindicator). This implies that EVERY old chassis is going to be getting some sort of QOL art pass . . . even if just to add in the new weapon models.

Also, Russ on Twitter already stated there wouldn't be any "NEW" mech announcements (aka new chassis) until after the Civil War hit. The current focus is Civil war tech. Even if there's new mechs that'll have a "brief" preorder window before release, we're still not going to see anything until after the Civil War chassis hit live servers.

Those points combined means it gives their art team time to work on retrofitting mechs for Civil War tech. It also might mean weapons geometry overhauls on some mechs like the Vindicator and Quickdraw received (Please have full overhauls for the Commando, Dragon, Cent, and others that desperately need it . . . PLEASE!). Time spent not skinning new mechs might also be spent making some new camo patterns for all mechs and/or more new decals.

Regardless, this is obviously a bit of a strategically planned "break" from chassis-making in order to work on the big push for Civil War tech and the required art support. After old chassis are retrofitted to have full art support of new tech I expect them to go 100% full steam ahead on the one thing PGI has always been sure to do . . . produce mechs.

Thanks for the info.
I hope they won't keep that long to announce a new mech pack. (I don't mind to wait the actual release of the mechs - just show me some mech porn)

And yes, I'm super curious to know what mech(s) they will pick next.

That's all fine by me, my IS side want list has shurnk by a large amount to be Stinger / Wasp / Gauntlet / Crusader / Templar /Devastator, with Clan side being Piranha / Coyotl / Warhammer IIC.

Personally, I highly doubt that they're going to wait that long to release a new mech pack. I think right now they're playing it safe until they get a solid timeline for all of the art retrofits for the Civil War tech. Once they have that timetable down they'll probably assess the earliest time they can do a new chassis announcement/preorder. After all, PGI seems to have more art employees than anything else, and they've proven how fast they can crank out mechs and mech related art with how early we see 3D renders of mechs that are MONTHS out from release. Therefore, I don't think it'll be too long before they're cranking out more mechs; and with mechs being PGI's primary revenue stream, I don't think they'll want to put it on hold any longer than absolutely necessary.

Well....I would hope the next new Chassis would be Clan....cause really we just got through with a IS sprint...OR IMO better is if PGI honestly did 2 chassis a month atleast at 1 for each side.

(at that, probably be a light or a heavy, most needed for Clan being any of the 20 ton options, and the Nova Cat for our 2nd 70 tonner)

We could also do with a new 60 tonner at this point. As for Clan Lights, I'm somewhat picky. I want a Light thats going to have decently good performance, while simultaneously not getting screwed over by Volumetric Scaling.

Well they need a new price model first.
Just a package of 3 would hardly be enough.

I hope they redesign their weapon visual system and consider hardpoints... the look of the HGR on the Uziel Sneak Peak is as disgusting as to see 3 Gauss Rifles in the tiny arms of the PHX or 7 ERPPCs on the Hunchback IIC.

Are IS mechs like the Cerberus and Tempest reasonable additions to MWO or are do they poorly translate?

The Cerberus is a strong contender, the Tempest looks a little on the weak side due to the 260 series base engine, coupled with a low arm mount for the Gauss. Hit boxes on both look okay going by the art, but could be problematic if the keep the short nature of them, meaning they would be wide and easy to isolate the hit boxes.

Tall and skinny isn't as bad as short and wide when it comes to hit boxes. Also being tall and skinny is good from the side as well, as it meansyou have a narrow side profile.

I agree the Cerberus is a top shelf pick. 400 capable, ballistics in 4 different locations (quad ac10/rac5 + xl), the torso ballistics look to be on the top of the torso so it can hill hump and arms that should help it spread DMG all day long.

I'd be slightly worried about the Tempest's hitboxes because as Metus said it's more squat than the Hopper but with decent hotboxes it could be on the Hopper's lvl.

Check out this video if you're interested in some strong mechs.

We are not counting Word of Blake ComStar's terrorist division mechs.

For time reasons there's only 3 per weight class however the Legacy has an issue with super exposed STs.

Oh, and I just played with the Dire Wolf. Fells pretty powerful. Against all odds, I leaving the heavy bracket to find home again in the assault weight.

PS: for those who say the Annihilator will be "meh", I'm wrecking havoc with a 4UAC/5s Mauler. In one match, I was the last one alive in my team and got jumped by 4 mechs (1 Timber Wolf, 1 Ebon Jaguar, 1 Stormcrow and 1 Griffin). Killed 3 (note that the Timber was new) and sent the Stormcrow running for his life (with a red CT). I only lost the match because an enemy light was actually doing it's job.
Spoiler

Now I can't wait to try a 6 UAC/5s or 4 Rotary/5s Anni.
