When I did it, I had a Vindicator, two Shadowhawks and a Centurion 9A... I did the mission with 1 round to spare...

To do it in a comfortable time, I'd suggest using mechs that combine Shadowhawk speed, with Centurion level firepower, jumpjets and Thunderbolt level armour. Even cutting the corners I did, if I hadn't gotten two lucky head caps I dont think I would have done it.

I'm not sure if you can do this in HBS's Battletech, but in TT you can actually fit a full-blown artillery piece onto a Hunchie 4G simply by removing one heatsink. It was gone over pretty thoroughly on the CGL forums.

Wasn't it Juodas who was so desperate for the Vulcan? I mean, I'll at least get the basic pack, partially because it looks cool, and partially cause I desperately want that Jack-o-Lantern face decal for my Firestarter.

But i'm not sure if i'll be picking the pack up. Sorta low on cash and out of a job, sooooo... Uhm... Yeah.
However, i'm really excited for it! And i sorta wish it was made earlier so i had it in HBS Battletech (but sadly i couldn't really use it now anyway, because all the missions keep throwing multiple Assault mechs at me and i can't really use mediums or lights anymore )

I've never been a huge fan of the Vulcan, I always thought it was pretty fugly. However, yet again Alex has worked miracles. The MWO Vulcan actually looks pretty good.

Granted, it wasn't anywhere on my personal wish-list, but at least it's not a Chimera, it has decent variants, and should be a respectable addition to MWO. Also, yay for more 3025 era mechs!

Btw., we got another Steiner hero. The Bloodlust is the Mech of Leutnant Sondra Stoverston, 20th Arcturan Guards:

Her Vulcan, “Bloodlust,” is painted a brownish-red
and refl ects her attitude toward combat. Sondra is a major
threat to any infantry unit, with a reputation for killing
platoons to the last person.
During the Fourth Succession War, Sondra participated
in the fi ghting around Lake Noswe on Buckminster. The
Mechanized infantry attached to the Sixth Arkab Legion
broke and ran rather than face Sondra and her Bloodlust.

Thanks to the Vulcan, we are save from the Chimera for a while, and that's certainly a good thing. Also, it has a legitimately notable role in the lore which is more than can be said about some previous releases...

Still, the Vulcan was not my first choice either, but I guess with HBS BT in mind it works. It's performance in MWO will depend hugely on quirks. The hardpoints are ok, but not really good, and it looks like the STs could end being huge (unless the arm hitbox is large enough). It's also the slowest 40t BattleMech.

Thanks to the Vulcan, we are save from the Chimera for a while, and that's certainly a good thing. Also, it has a legitimately notable role in the lore which is more than can be said about some previous releases...

Still, the Vulcan was not my first choice either, but I guess with HBS BT in mind it works. It's performance in MWO will depend hugely on quirks. The hardpoints are ok, but not really good, and it looks like the STs could end being huge (unless the arm hitbox is large enough). It's also the slowest 40t BattleMech.

The lore is good and sparing us from the Chimera is a big plus but I'll probably pass.

Still, a 300 is plenty for a 40t mech and it's mixture of energy/ballistics is alright.

I'd of preferred the Argus by a bit personally.

Well, in the vein of speed the top of my list for mediums is the Clint; and that's not exactly fast. However if it's quirked the way it's supposed to be quirked -as a front line trooper mech- then it'd be like the Urbie or Wolfhound of the 40t mechs and receive durability out the wazoo. The Vulcan is more support than trooper, but for MWO purposes it's going to be a pseudo-trooper, so it will probably be quirked similarly . . . although more likely with structure quirks instead of armor.

Sadly, nowadays quirks make or break mechs in MWO. That's going to be the case for most mechs PGI could put into the game; and the mechs where that's not the case really boil down to artwork and PGI's hardpoint and/or hitbox allocation . . . which are really quirks in-and-of themselves. Therefore, yeah, quirks make or break all mechs in MWO.

Pinpoint aiming tends to do that.

Problem is, the Vulcan really isn't a front-line trooper, considering it's main anti-mech weapon pre-3050s is an AC2. No, the Vulcan is infantry suppression, effectively a worse Firestarter.

Panyzer went really Well!

The start for the turret controls I move my Thunderbolt and Hunchback up center of the enemy line considting and sent my Quickdraw and ShadowhWk to the left slowly moving for the main objective. Multi target worked great to mop up the 6 tanks quickly.

The 2nd part, Glitch getting a headshot on the Dragon with a Ac20 was a wonderful start. I ran my Thunderbolt up one side behind the drop ships and my Quickdraw up the other. Then kept my Hunchback and Shadowhawk in the center slowly advancing fighting through most of the enemy. Though the enemy mechs were very uncoordinated on who to focus, they were trying to engage my heavies going up each flank only to expose their backs to my AC20 or turrets. I got my Quickdraw to the Target and killed it with 3 or 4 turns left to spare then mopped up the remaining mechs. Everyone walked away healthy, just my Thunderbolt had some internal damage.

Oh Panzyr was a little beast... but Artru was just as bad.... in fact pt2 was worse, for me.

Mongoose is about the last IS Light outside of the Stinger that I would be interested in. THough I hope when it does show it doesn't get ....punked liked the Osiris did. My 2-3 favorite Light Mech... and won't buy it cuz it looks so ...bad.

and MW5 prep. Though I am surprised they are giving up Sizzle Content for MW5 in advance. Not a great sales strategy.

As for entertained.... yup. A little sad that someone falcon punched it's head back into it's sternum, but that's actually pretty accurate to the original design.

Refreshing attitude. Figure it this way.... every month, every choice.... someone is happy and someone is sad and probably a heck of a lot more are somewhere in between. I have to say as someone who now has all his "passion" mechs in, that I'm pretty stoked, though. More so in fact, thanks to CKi6!

For me it was Panzyr, every other story mission has been easy by comparison for me... doubly so now that I've got that Highlander, she basically knocks down a mech every turn, combined with tactics 9 and fully gunnery she's also a head shot machine too...

For me sofar, part 2/3 has been about IDF as much as I can, once wittled down then engage with direct fire and murder what ever it is I bump into... also focus fire on the legs... Unless it's a Hunchback, then kill that RT.

And I like that they are mixing classics, meta oriented and MW4 designs to kind of try to feed a little bit to everyone. Dunno what all the Chimera hate is about though. But to each their own.

I am just prepping for War Council. Have added a couple extra Assaults to my lance to support my SLDF Royals Highlander. 90 hrs of play time, 122 missions, no saves, no redos, 1 withdrawal on a sandbox mission with my Bravo Lance. Sent the B team in on a 2.5 Skull rated contract and had stiffer resistance than my Alpha Lance had been facing on 4 star missions, of late. After Medusa took 4 hits to the head in 4 shots, and the rest of the lance was overheating and naked, decided that it wasn't worth getting them killed for a 400k mission for some Planetary Gov't and hit Withdraw.

Do love my Goose Waffle though. Usually start the mission luring them to me, Dekker sensor Locks one if they don't walk into visual range, Gltich lays 40+ LRMs into them, then I precision shot out their CT in most cases. But yeah, if I can't reliably punch out the CT, I'll take the RT off the Hunchy, though on a G, honestly, either ST will do. Take out the LT, you take out it's ammo, so the gun don't go boom. Kind of sad I don't see any 4Js, though.

I'm not going to feel bad about the Vulcan, simply because it can be refit to a light-style weapon layout with a funky set of hitboxes and move pretty fast.

Worked pretty good for the last IS 40-tonner.
