Those shoulder/upper arms are quite unique.

Which other weird designs would you like to see the Alex Iglesias rendition?

Just needs some pointed antenna ears on the Vulcan. It would look perfect then. :)

Mongoose. The main oddities are the distinct and pronounced Digitigrade legs with a "humanoid" torso and an "animalistic" head. Most other notable digitigrade mechs, as per original drawings, don't have humanoid upper bodies (Catapult, MadCat, Marauder, etc.). Granted, Alex changed the Assassin from huamnoid legs to a modest digitigrade for MWO, but it's still not as pronounced as the Mongoose would be (especially at speeds the Mongoose could be moving) . . . although it does show that Alex could make the form look GOOD.

Also, the head has antenna "ears" and an unusual shape, cockpit lines, and a weapon hardpoint to squeeze in there without looking absurd and standout-ish like it does on the Wolverine.

This could look amazing in Alex's art style for MWO:

Totally.

I actually think they'll do both, and call one a variant of the other.

Objections duly noted. I'm not saying it's what they should do, just what I think they will do.

- The Brigand for being a pirate mech and a JJ 25 tonner
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Brigand
I'd also put forward the idea of giving it's hero at least 6 ballistics for mg boating and JJ. 6B, 2E & JJ. It wouldn't have the dps of the Pir but would have JJ. An mg boat feels like something pirates would have.
- Lightray, 400 capable 55 tonner with potentially good geo and some high mounts.
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Lightray
- IS omnis, specifically the Men Shen, Black Hawk-Ku, Templar/Sunder
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Men_Shen (arguably the potentially strongest IS omni)
I'd also state that the BH-Ku would give the IS a 12E 60 tonner. http://www.sarna.net...i/Black_Hawk-KU
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Templar (I thought it had FF but without it or just LFF it'd solve it's slot issue)
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Sunder (I don't subscribe to the XL = auto death but I do love my Wubshee. I also think the arms could potentially help it spread dmg)
- Dragon Fire, ballistics in seperate locations + ecm 75 tonner that's potentially super strong (unlike a certain terribad mech)
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Dragon_Fire
- Anvil, ecm 60 tonner that has JJ and helps rep Marik
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Anvil
- Lancelot, 400 capable & JJ equipped 60 tonner
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Lancelot
- Excaliber, 400 capable with mix of missle and ballistic
http://www.sarna.net...bur_(BattleMech)
- Gunslinger, ECM & JJ multi-ballistic 85 tonner
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Gunslinger
- Thug, 80t ECM but it needs inflation
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Thug

Most of those I wouldn't call "weird" as they're pretty run-of-the-mill mech designs, physically. I believe Odanon was referring to "weird" in the sense of being physically odd or abnormal, like the Vulcan is.

Granted, there are several designs there I'd like to see, myself, as has been discussed before, but I think you kinda missed the point of Odanon's inquiry.

Not just the art that's growing on me, but (shoot me) I think it will be at least as playable as the range-y Cicada builds (shoot me from a distance).

I want to see Horned Owl or Kingfisher anyway, but I acknowledge that each is unlikely for their own reasons.

For weird?

While 1) the Horned Owl is kinda weird due to some of the artistic flourishes, and 2) I'd love to see what Alex did with that, you're 3) looking for more than that.

The Turkina's actually pretty weird looking if you think about it.

Stooping Hawk is really weird, but the line art for it is better than many.

Longbow's pretty funky (Unseen, I know)

Those are the ones that leap forward for me, anyway.

Edit: The Ost line would be hands-down the weirdestmechs in MWO. Making those things look like legit war machines would be a true test of Alex's skill.

AHA! I also found the Longbow's trolly uncle: the Yeoman. It's far more funky than the Longbow, and while it was the first one I thought of visually, I couldn't recall the name. Now that I've got it, I can say that I'd love to see what Alex would do with it.

I would like to see the

2. Behemoth Triple Gauss monstrosity that looks like a rhinoceros.

1. Berserker. I know it's not weird and it has a melee weapon, but this is my favorite mech of all-time.

Both are 100 tons, and the Berserker has a 400 engine with MASC.

As interested as I am in seeing how PGI will would tackle them, I have some reservations about them... If they take Gen 1 (production dates pre 3058) with the current game mechanics, then they are going to be heavily punished as there are very, very few decent units, a couple manage to push into the "okay" category, but most are out right bad or are heavily reliant on art and hit boxes for MWO.

If they go with a mix of Gen 1 and Gen 2 (production dates post 3058 but pre 3068) then we see a few more units that fall into "okay" to "decent" and a few others that are again, art and hit box dependent.

It is a safe bet that Gen 2.5 (WoB Omnis) and Gen 3 (post HPG Black out) are off the table as they often use kit that is not in game.

To make the IS Omni's really shine, when compared to their Battlemech counter parts (again this is a big sticky point for me), they will need to change how things like the isXL engine works with IS Omnimechs or qurik them to the point that it makes the Annhilator look like a Locust. Or would they let them mount Clan spec weapons, as there is TT rule precedent for it in Alt. R configs for IS Omnis.

Breaking the rules on isXL engines is a bad idea to me, but allowing for mix-tech in IS omnimechs could be fun...

Honestly, i think that i wouldn't hate a Raptor.
I quite like how it looks and from it's definitely one of the less awful IS omnis around.

They (PGI) have already broken several rules...
  • Engine size = Walk speed*Weight
  • Weapon precision
  • Critical hit effects
  • No Gyro hits
  • Rate of Fire
  • How Heatsinks work

Now don't get me wrong, I love TT and am a serious Lorewarrior (I love the lore of the universe), but TT rules are not working well for this game environment. I mean if Jordan Freaking Wiseman the father of BT changes the rules (crits, damage and heat) of the weapons for the HBS BT title, why is it such an issue for PGI to do the same?

Well the Raptor is one of the Gen 1 Omnis that get into the "decent to okay" catagory, that's due to the geometry, where it suffers is the run speed of 113km/h before skills in MWO, this is a touch on the slow side (doubly so with the inclusion of the Black Lanner)

No need to review the XL rule: just make the Engine type (not size) of the OmniMechs changeable.
This would help even the Clanners, by making viable some classic Std. Engine Omnis.
