I really felt that, in MW4, 3rd person was like cheating. Since it was in the game you couldn't call people using it cheaters. They just used what was given to them. But, if you've got your nose up against a wall with your view blocked but can simply hit a button and magically see around walls and hills...........well, that kinda defeats the purpose of putting the walls and hills there in the first place doesn't it? It really made the terrain in MW4 a joke and made "pop tarting" popular.
Bring back "satellite uplink ... established"! Preferrably in Betty's original voice.
Purists?
The game is a table-top game with ironically a 3rd person view...
You can still be a purist and enjoy a 3rd person view.
.... and yes some people do get motion sickness from 1st person but have no problem with 3rd person games. I know.

Have motion sickness? Go to options and disable head or cockpit bobbing.

Play that game as long as you can every day and you'll build up an immunity. I haven't had game induced motion sickness since I finished that stomach churning game in 1997.

Surely, taking the knowledge that these 'leagues' are dividing up into 1PV and 3PV, it would make sense to have separate ..servers.. sort of thing.
You know what I mean, as in 3PV players play amongst themselves and 1PV.. well, yes, it's a simple concept.
I'm guessing this might prove a problem in terms of extra finance/work?
Seems to be the only remedy I can think of.
Whether out of necessity or not, 3PV provides an advantage whether you like it or not.
World of Tanks uses both 1PV and 3PV and it works but.. no, in my mind.

I am all for first person only but I see your point about cameras.....If they were to implement them I hope they would make it like your actually viewing through a camera mounted on your mech....not like a little drone following your mech like the little drones in CnC Generals follow the US Tanks..

That being said how do you all feel about first person only at release? I personally love it. I play first person for the immersion of it. And selfishly I don't want those advantage seekers using 3rd person to ambush me from complete concealment around a corner. At least not while being able to see me clear as day with their magically floating third eye.
LoL I want them to be nervous and twitchy as they wait, not knowing the exact moment I will step into view.
I am for 'cockpit' only. For the immersion, for the added mechanic of 'visibility' differences in different mech cockpits, for the cool looking doohickies on my consoles.

Could ignore that I suppose, but I.. that doesn't really seem like 3PV because it's still a moving image with static mech which I thought added to the BLURUghh HURUGUHhh affect.

3d view camera placed on the top of scout mechs could probably work, without aim reticle.
With no ability to shoot and with a switch delay to 1st person view (1-2 sec.?)
For scouting and spotting purpose.

Toggle On for first person view and simpit'ers (also Toggle for cockpit or HUD only for same reason).
Toggle Off for people who tend to get nauseous when viewing action through a moving, limited field of vision angle. Caveat: Limited zoom, pan and scan during battles.
Another thread that devolved into "I love this feature so everyone should be forced to use it" debate. /sigh

However, major major gamechangers, such as being able to see around corners, over hilltops, or escape the 'penalties' of being hit (or in some cases firing weapons) need to be removed from third person view. The problem with this... solving these problems are not simple. Coding the game to not render things that would be invisible to the first-person view for example, simple to say, to me it sounds like it would be a nightmare to program. And finding ways to prevent those in third person from having a built-in exploit to avoid recoil/smoke effects would likewise be extremely complicated. Of all of the issues, the 'shock' impact of being hit would probably be the easiest to fix in 3rd person, by forcing the cross-hairs into the same rise (or force tip the whole camera view, just like the first-person pilot would experience).
If those issues can't be addressed, then yes, Forced First Person Perspective is the most logical way to go. Else you wind up with a very obvious, and often-utilized exploit that players will be either forced to cede to the opponent, or participate in, in any form of competition.

The main reason I don't want 3rd person is due to the free scouting over hills it provides. Now, if this were turned into a scout module, I might be willing to compromise on this. Something like a small remote controlled camera drone that hovers above and behind the mech which the pilot can switch view to (effectively 3rd person camera). The camera only last for limited time (ex:10-15 secs, then runs out of fuel), has no reticle and pilot can not shoot from this view (obviously), can not zoom, has limited number of uses or a long cooldown, and the camera can be spotted by enemies (though its small so can go unnoticed).
