I think I could make one concession to third person, hull cams I could see be in use. Mostly because they don't provide too much of a tactical advantage, and it seems more plausible than 'orbiting camera drones'.

1st person... just to keep that classic mw(2 or 3) feel. :)

Just dropping in to say I'm okay with first person only. I only use 3rd person to see how cool I look and stroke my ego, which would be really unsafe in multiplayer games. Oh yeah, also to kill time between Nav Points. "The green arrow is your best friend!"
I just want to be able to hit [Print Screen] real quick to get screen shots of my lance-mates' badassery and would appreciate the same from them occasionally in return. :)

Oh yes there can be compromise. They will compromise on so many things that we never know about. How about this then.

Instead of the Camera view being from over the shoulder, it was instead out if Front of the Mech in question. (whatever person that is lol)

So all the kiddies who just have to see their Mech on the move can but have no means to use the View to cheat, snoop etc at all (unless your on his 6 o'clock) but we hope to have a rear view already)

I like this. Plus, the front of my Mech is much cooler than the back.

Ya, having a "breast view" beats having a... "butt view"?

Just thought I'd throw in my two cents: if you make this game first person only even though it is well documented that many people cannot play games like this due to motion sickness among other medical conditions then I will certainly be dissapointed enough not to spend money on it.

To those of you who have said 'your problem better not mess with my fun' I say I hope you lose an eye or an eardrum and then try to play first person only; selfish jerks.

Not interested in "corner-dueling."

First person restrictive is MechWarrior "done right."

It's not a matter of "your problem had better not mess with my fun" it's a matter of what is appropriate to the game.

3rd person, isn't. it isn't an arcade game, something which the use of 3rd person perspective indicates somewhat.

So don't take it personally. If you can't play it due to health grounds or physical disability, then don't play it.

If you don't understand that, then I guess I am a selfish ****; first person perspective (only) all the way!

I'll enjoy the first person experience, that being said if they come up with ways you can be outside your mech, ie: over the shoulder, hip angles that doesn't give you an advantage, I'll like it. They can give the player the choice, but ultimately you will lose information if your in 3rd, compared to having all the information available in 1st.

If they do implement 3rd person I hope they also provide the option to either:

1. Allow both 1st and 3rd person
2. Force all to use 3rd person
3. Force all to use 1st person.

That way you can stop people having silly advantages due to 3rd person view.

I loved going 1st person in MW4 - but I found myself at a severe disadvantage on many maps as a result. I strongly feel that it's just silly. If something is there that makes it easier for people to get kills, 99.9% of people WILL use it, just because it's there.

Use any excuses you want, bottom line is Forced First Person evens the playing field...and that can only be a good thing in a game like this which we all (hopefully) want to be heavily based on skill.

I played in a league in MW4 that was forced first person. New units and players that would come into the league from third person leagues would usually moan about it at first, but many would realize how much more tactically diverse the game was without 3rd person. You simply couldn't look over hills and obstacles and have free scouting. You had to play the radar game at a much more intense level and actually use dedicated scouts at times. If you weren't careful you could easily get blindsided by a coordinated flank. Infighters played larger roles in FFP matches compared to TP matches (which were virtually non-existent in competitive TP matches). In third person , gameplay reduced itself to finding the right hill and hump(pop-tart) it with your JJ sniper. gg. There were very skilled units playing in TP leagues, but those matches were one dimensional compared to what could happen in FFP.

I really think the game should be forced 1st person ONLY. The only reason being that in MW4 there was a HUGE issue that pilots using 3rd person view could lock lrms over a hill that they could not see over in first person view. Remote controlling a mech from the outside is not mechwarrior.

I... don't care. However, if you are going to force a first person perspective we better be able to pimp the hell out of the cockpit.

If you can't play a game in first person due to a medical condition, that same medical condition would prevent you from playing a game in 3rd person. The simulation sickness is because the background is a 3d space that moves with you, not because your perspective is from a cockpit.

I do feel bad for guys who may find the game unplayable if limited to 1st person, but I find it surprising you cannot find anything to relieve your motion sickness. Possibly playing in brighter conditions, and taking motion-sickness medicine would help. Because whether you plan to abuse it or not, 3rd person provides inherent advantages over 1st person. For example, if you are attacked from behind, someone in 1st person wouldn't know the precise angle of attack that they had been hit from, while someone in 3rd person would see the 'tracers' hitting their back that they could use to locate the enemy instantly, which may make the difference of life or death with which cover you choose in response or which way you turn. 3rd person also expands the field of view, and messes with targeting. In 1st person, you are situated among all of your weaponry, and looking down the gun sight indicates the specific path that the projectiles will follow. With 3rd person, you are situated above the mounts of your weapons, and the line of sight from your point of view to the reticle is not representative of the true path your weapons take. It can also be abused by sitting behind the crest of a hill in a "leg-down" position while mounting LRMs, as you can hang your reticle over the crest and achieve lock-on and fire, without exposing yourself to return fire.

Appearantly this can happen in almost any 3D game involving a lot of motion...including games like Quake and Unreal. So yeah, first person or not, they would get sick regardless.

It's always mildly amazing that people who throw the "selfish" label at others over this issue can't seem to fathom that they too, are being selfish. Irony at an impressive level.
