Why No Multi-Core/threating Support

it would make the game run so much smoother and if only they could enable crossfire as my 280x is going to waste and community warfare is killing my fps

On the MWO launcher...
Click the "Gear" icon in the upper right.
Choose "Use 64-bit client."
Enjoy your multi-core support.
While playing yesterday, Lordred who frequently complains about the lack of the game using cores said he was impressed it got up to using 8 cores, however briefly.

Also if you have msi afterburner disable ulps(Ultra low power state) it will help your frames a ton also disable v-sync.

I am on a old (antique) AMD quad core system, and the 64bit option helped smooth out my gameplay.
My FPS used to dip into the red in heavy combat, but not anymore!

Its just 64bit.
And theres almost no advantage to it, other than it uses slightly more ram.

It IS using more than one core at a time. It's only when you have more than four cores that it doesn't improve performance (or if it does, it's very little improvement).
FYI, there are very few games that use more than three or four cores at a time. The current sweet spot is four cores. Maybe in five to ten years, games will actually need more than four cores, but no sooner than that.

Run perfmon /res and look at the CPU tab while it's running. If it's not using all your CPU you are likely GPU bound.

The game needs a large dose of optimization and proper threading IMO.

You can try to force anything you want.
Fact of the matter is, MWO, no matter how beast/ghetto your machine, will always run poorly.
It's just one of those games.

FYI, the NVidia version has that option set to Auto, as the driver will determine on its own whether there are performance gains. Outside of that... it's a mystery to everyone.
