Would I expect others to?

So my team works hard and eliminates the opposing team save for 1 and then I'm supposed to let one of my team potentially get beaten while we stand around and watch?
Glad I'm not a clanner.
Nope.

"Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake." -N. Bonaparte

Why he is only now - at the last - asking for Zellbriggen would be the only thing I want to know. Seems cowardly to me... :) but that's me.
His side has effectively lost. I could simply wait, or cap and not destroy him at all. Some "true warriors" would say give him a good death. I would dispatch him by any legal means at my disposal. At least there is a clear victory. ;)

And your situation is a little odd (not making a personal remark). Just saying: Zellbriggen is a Clan term used exclusively by the Clanners. Two DCMS samurai perhaps. I am not bound by their ethical framework however. - Slay them.

The clans haven't arrived yet but most of us get the general idea.

Imagine if you were in the beta game right now and your team has 3 players while the enemy has 1, at this point victory is almost certain if you ganked him together or bypassed your opponent for the objective. Before you act however, the lone surviving enemy calls out for individual combat in the middle of the map, challenging you and your friends to duel one at a time.

Your enemy is a relatively good pilot and has suffered little damage. The odds are still against him but he is better off than without Zellbrigen imposed and at the very least he may inflict more damage on your team which will add to repair costs.

The rules, if you accept are as follow:

1.) 1 on 1 combat at a time only
2.) No use of indirect fire, artillery strikes, long range sniping
3.) Combat begins when both sides are ready
4.) Combat only takes place at a selected location

What will you do?

(Side note: Your enemy isn't a clanner, he has the same IS tech as you. The time line is 3049, clans haven't arrived yet but this challenge is issued in the same way Knife fights between the last 2 players in Counter-Strike are issued)

I am an honorable mercenary...

I don't kill civilians. (Note: picking up a weapon makes a you militia...)
I accept unconditional surrenders. (This leads you to line 3!)
I don't shoot the MASH full of POWs and POWs get meds at the MASH. (You still get manacles and a crappy cot though!)
I take the objective I was paid to take with a minimal amount of dinking around. (This gets my employees hurt and risks my objective.)

So no... your request for a duel would fall on deaf ears. If you want a better chance at living after your unit was downed? Surrender. Otherwise fight like a real warrior tubey. Oh and hold on to this nice blinking NARC beacon for me if you could... I have bills to pay, places to go, contracts to honor.

Ridiculous.

In a tabletop pen and paper game, sure, maybe, depends on circumstances.

In a computer game that is predicated on doing damage to get stuff to be able to do/get more stuff in the game, hell no. There's no mechanic in a video game for that kind thing anyway, so moot.

If it's against an IS warrior, I'd expect him to try to cheat anyway, so no to an IS pilot. Clanner, on the other hand, I'd show him that respect since, generally, a Clanner won't fight dirty.

Ok it goes like this .................. This is a FPS shooter game and just like any other FPS you do what you need to do to win, If you want to be a carebear then go play a PvE server game.

I would personally if the other 2 members of my team agreed to stand aside, if not then winning by conventional tactics (i.e. outnumbering)

Nope. Call me dishonorable, but victory for the Federated Suns will always take precedence over my personal glory.

Supposing that this honor code exists.
A clanner, after whiping out 7 mechs of 2 lances, having 3 of his two stars left, would call this out for which reason? Are they both commanders, or graduated to commander of the lances/stars by default because of death and possible cowardice or stkupidity? I wouldn't accept. There is no reliable trust that the one who offers is truly in command.

I'm a merc. They pay me to kill everything, I'll do that as fast as possible and move on to the next contract.

If you kill everything you are not a merc ,but a mad man.
A merc fights for money ,killing if is needed but smart enought to avoid unnecessary victims ,losses of material and time ...ect.

I would fight 1 on 1 (I know its not popular ,but its me)

Nope, would not accept such a duel. Risking the lives of teammates for personal honor, pride, what have you... just doesn't sit well with me. Like others said, if my team worked to legitimately gain that advantage in the first place, my opponent deserves no such quarter.

This sort of thing has been done in the days of old. Sometimes a knight would call out to single combat. Usually there's an agreement reached on what would happen depending on who won. In Battletech, I can imagine this being a match won or lost depending on the outcome of the single combat.

Lol, I couldnt care less, cuz at the end of the day,idc who gets the kill, just as long as we win the battle....kills mean nothing if your dead and the battle is lost...
