Frankly, canon is necessary to set up all the factions, but I am a proponent of creating our own "future fiction" after the milieu is established. Clan tech will be an issue, but I advocate that a planetary league with appropriately considered rules will obviate many potential issues. IMHO, ladder leagues and pubs (where you can name your faction anything you want) will be where weapons balance and players who have to always have the biggest/baddest will be a problem.

A planetary league like NBT will be a good fit for MWO. but it has to attract players. The naming conventions for any faction outside of canon in a PL will always be an issue for me. Well considered historical research will help a group select a name consistent with the established milieu and allow for expansion in the new fiction.

Exactly. As a BT Fan I do not want to see some ridiculous name like Clan Pancake Flippers. The devs have paid attention to too many details to allow that to happen.

I'm picturing a dolphin made out of pancakes now. Or a unit insignia with a spatula in a halo/starburst.

Sorry that clan wolf has not chimed in yet. Our general plan right now is to run as a merc corp till if and when the clans are available to play. Its very possible that they are going use the clans as the evil enemy that everyone must fight. But if infact they do not we have no problem with mergers (we have already had talks with WiE about merging together if it ever came down to it). But we have no problem fighting Zellbrigen and we normally hold in clan trials. We have just never had a chance to fight using Zellbrigen. Every unit we have challenged has declined the honor of Zellbrigen. But with the game still in development I am not going to make any major plans till we know a bit more. Right now we are just happy to see a full official MW game. But feel free to contact us with anything that the devs or the community would like to do.

Indeed. Good to see you posting around ovkhan.

I am Jaroth Winson of Clan Wolf. I stand ready to unite the Clans if the originators such as Stormwolf & Seth deem me worthy.

I Draconis Ward, callsign Guardian Wolf, stand with Jaroth. May we fight with honor, and so if we die, we shall die in glory.

Guys please remember that you do NOT speak for a particular Clan (with the exception of CBS) because there are more than one group that calls itself by that title. I would advise you to restrict yourself to a cluster or galaxy. When the time for the game to actually launch comes around we will end up with the problem of every individual unit trying to claim they are the legitimate Clan XYZ & just as you would not want a stranger to be ruling over you as Khan or saKhan, the other groups would be thinking the same way. Unless of course everybody who decides to be in a certain clan meets up then agrees to settle everything via combat.

I also implore the new players to get familiar with the lore BEFORE they start playing. Things will go a LOT smoother. For example without checking out anything on their own, players who decide to stick with the IS might just hear things that may or may NOT be accurate. So you "hear" that Clan players only engage targets singularly in a duel. That is partially true because Zellbrigen allows a Clan pilot to fire upon a target that fired upon him/her. If an IS pilot fires on five different Clan mechs, ALL five mechs are allowed to return fire. Of course one pilot may try to claim the target, especially if he/she was fired upon first but the point to remember her is that if you kick the beehive, expect to get stung. It is going to look pretty stupid to be screaming, "but but but I thought you guys couldn't do that!' while your mech is being shot to pieces.

I expect to do my best to follow Zellbrigen, but when the IS start ganging up on me, I will gladly share the honor in allowing them to join in and target one of the opponents.

The Ghost Bears are going to re-aquatint themselves with Zellbrigen in MWLL. Using comms to claim targets in PUB games. Claiming targets instead of calling targets. Figure out when to call for help and 'share' the honor. Better to share the honor if it proves too much at times then to go out a fiery death, more so depending on the negatives that MWO could place upon a death.

That should be done in practice or league matches already. One person calls targets then each pilot selects their own & moves to engage the one they claimed. I have been accused of (saying this with a huge smile on my face) stalking people. It is not stalking, it is Zellbrigen. I fire on a target & I engage that target ONLY, until it is destroyed. Of course if while engaging my original target, another pilot opens fire on me he has granted himself the highest honor there is on the battlefield; death by my hands.......... or CLBX-AC20s as it were. :)

Best suggestion is Enjin. The free service is great, been using it for a year for my Ghost Bear Cluster. If you have some spare cash, the paid site is even better.

Well... I'm a Clan Smoke Jaguar kind of guy (though not a member of said Clan), come the release of the game I would probably be asking if they'd give me a chance... to embarrass myself!

But as for sticking to the Clan way of things, I am most definitely up for this.

You should go get to know them now. They are a fantastic unit, more closely knit then my Ghost Bear unit lol. They are pro, but also bros. They mainly play MWLL, but also play MW4 and if you do suck like you think, they will whip you in to shape if you like.

I had considered it, but unless you guys have MW3 (am I right in thinking the multiplayer portion of this is no longer supported?), I'm afraid I no longer have the software to join in B) Though I am very grateful for the friendly approach ;)

Though it should be noted that embarrass in this context relates to my predilection for hopping into something utterly unsuitable & running around like a loon, often with jump jets involved... Do the clans ever let the... uh, "differently-abled" folk into mechs?
