Why get less points for a kill? I don't understand why this would happen.

PGI puts out a tournament that discourages the killstealing play style, and yet somebody still complains?

I believe in farming.
Just don't try to farm in a Vindicator... it's a painful experience.

HAVING them be the same would ALSO eliminate the need for kill stealing.
Also I praised them for the tournament, just not the scoring.

I hope they keep it up and do a variety of challenge/event requirements going forward. Variety is the spice of life after all

this challenge is not tough at all...(im not a great player) but my first 8 games i only missed on 1 point, and even then my team had a terrible round and my final score was 124/130...so i just missed it.
just play a bit smarter and youll do fine

During these "events", the play quality degrades to a point where you see an enemy mech that gets their legs stripped, their side torsos, and center torso, AND it's still alive because nobody wants to kill it.
For that purpose, I play my FK9-K, because I'd rather scratch 10 mechs with MLs than mow down 4 damaged mechs with my best-performing FS9-S with MPLs.

Thats actually the most stupid thing I read today. If I play better I kill lots of people. If I do that in these tournaments I am ****** for playing good. Makes sense right? No. It does not.
Make assists worth the same as kills, then people won't rush for either.

This means a Light killing an Assault would get 0.065 the damage inflicted, while an Assault killing a light gets 0.035 the damage inflicted.
Now, this might encourage damage farming, where targets are dismembered as much as possible prior to killing, scatter munitions like missiles, LBX, MGs, etc....which goes against the established trend for scavenging. So instead of a damage inflicted multiplier, we can just use a fixed value for each class 10, 20, 25, 35 for Lights to Assaults respectively for kills.

Variety. They've done match score in the past also.
Kills = Assists does not discourage kill stealing, it encourages it because the kill stealer gets 20 points for the kill AND gets to stroke their epeen. Kills < Assists at least causes cognitive dissonance for the epeen crowd and makes them pause long enough for others to get an Assist.
But seriously, if you're worried about it then you clearly aren't getting enough assists. 5 assists, 1 kill, and 300 damage gets you 130 points. It's hard to NOT get that in a win, and it's really not all that hard to do it in a loss provided the loss isn't a wipe.

Damage is scored as well, and if the mechs you scratch don't die, you get the damage you put out and absolutely nothing else for your effort. If you get a kill, that's ten points. If you get an assist, that's 20 points. If the mech you're shooting kills you, you get nothing other than the damage you've done. I think assists being worth more are fine because they give lights and mediums a chance to actually get qualifying matches, since they can't pad their damage numbers anywhere near as hard as heavies and assaults.

This way you don't have people sprinting out in front to block other player's shot to grab that magically delicious Killshot.
People can just play, and not fight amongst themselves with oodles of Friendly fire and facehumping to achieve the challenge.
Teamwork is rewarded.
