If I had to choose though...
For IS:
Assault - King Crab
Heavy - Catapult, 4ml, and gauss
Medium - Hunchback, 2 srm6, with ml's
Light - Spider, LL, and 2ml
For Clan:
Assault - I don't really care for any of them all that much but I guess the Warhawk, lrm60, and 5ml
Heavy - Maddog, 6srms6, 4ml
Medium - Nova, 2Lp, and 4ml
Light - Adder, 4srm6
If I had to pick just one mech from IS and Clan I would choose the Spider and Nova.

Medium I guess I would go for the Yen-Lo-Wang, I don't own that many mediums
I don't play heavies very much because of the que times, but my K2 or Jester are my favorites.
assault, for fun Awesome 9M. I love my misery but the 9M with that alpha is just too fun.

That is a monster mech. The dakka is amazing. I have to wonder why it is that I see so few of them. Either coincidence, or maybe people are still use to the old (crappy) Dragon...
It's because of the old "huge ct " monkey on its back. I'm glad it's still under used. That thing is Murder Mountain, and I'd prefer our club to be exclusive.

The quad-gauss Dire Wolf.
The Dire Wolf is slower than snail s*%t, and I got tired of having to spend half the match just trying to get close enough to enemies to brawl, and then being too slow to retreat once I got there if things started going badly and getting swarmed. I also hated being harassed at a distance on the big, open maps like Alpine, Tourmaline, and Caustic. Now I'M the one doing the harassing. Basically, if I can see an enemy, I can hit them hard. It also never overheats. EVER. While other mechs are melting into puddles of slag from firing their PPCs and lazors on the side of Mt. Doom or in the Caustic crater, I just keep merrily blasting them into scrap. Sure, you have to shave off some arm and leg armor. Don't be a *****. Group your rifles in two groups, the ones on your left side and the ones on your right side. This way you can corner peek like a champ. You'll also want to be packing Adv. Zoom.
You are great for suppressing LRM boats, PPC snipers (you out-range and out-damage them, and have better heat management.) and AC2 trolls. You are a big target though, so try to step in and out of cover between shots and to break missile locks if people start focusing on you, which they will once you start spanking them with those gauss rifles. Prioritize targets with long-range weaponry to keep them off your team and make the enemy keep their heads down. Finally, you are an amazing light killer. That 30 pinpoint damage and the speed of your gauss rounds is often a one-hit kill, and I have been tearing the light population to shreds since I built this thing.
Expect numbers like this on big, open maps:

And around 300-400 damage on others with a couple kills. Enjoy!

300 standard engine
15 dhs
near max armor.
srm 4(1 ton of ammo)
x4 Medium lasers
UAC5(2 tons of ammo)
LRM 15(3 tons of ammo)
I keep debating on using 325 XL, or sticking with the 300 standard, but I tend to survive a bit longer with standard engines, so I can tack on a bit of extra damage, and or shield teamates from more damage. The only real trade off I lose from downgrading engines is a few tons of ammo, small loss in cooling efficiency, and 10% top speed.
I moves fairly quickly, 71 kph, cools efficiently enough to sustain constant fire for a while, and can deal decent damage at all ranges. Fits straight into my jack of all trades builds.

This mech just feels good when I drive it.
It was my Elite founders choice and I was annoyed so many top tier players in CB and OB trashed it as "bad" But back then it was the only thing I had for a long while to grind c-bills in. None of the heroes until the Protector, appealed to me so I spent a lot of time in the HBK-4G. I eventually grew to love all the HBKs and besides the HBK-4J, I come back to the 4G more than any of the other HBKs.
I originally ran it with 2xAC5 on chain fire and 3xML in CB, and that was OK, until I threw the AC20 back on, out of boredom, and decided to shadow assaults in any given match and just contribute fire to whatever they were attacking. Suddenly the 4G clicked for me and I've never looked back. When the hunch buffs came down I was ecstatic, when the rest of the quirks came down for it I was beyond ecstatic.
Of all the heroes, and other champions I now have, of all the Phoenix mechs and other mech packs, I come back to this mech more than any other.
When I drive an HBK, it fits like a glove, more so with the 4G.
Honorable mention: the Jagermech. That chassis too is starting to feel perfectly "broken in" for me.

I like this build but I can't do the UACs. I get so annoyed when they jam so I shun them. I like the ON1's in general and the K has awesome hard points. I did the balance on your build. I loath min/max builds and that play style (looking at you TDR-9S). So this build here is great. I love seeing other players bring out the Orion, bravo!

Aside from that, I always enjoy taking my CritJager for a spin. Relatively still durable, 2xLB10x's, 4xMGs and 2xMLs. When I get close enough up and can manuever around assaults it lays down some serious hurt pretty quick.

My LRM stormcrow with a c-narc in the third missile slot is very amusing, too. Get your own locks *and* fire from behind cover!

Like my Commandos it can be an adrenaline rush, I just haven't gotten used to how the JJs feel on the little guy yet.
