In my opinion absolutely. Although, it won't require a shrink in field of vision as far as I can tell. Look at the atlas cockpit from the exterior for example.

I adjusted my ingame FOV cause I have a larger monitor and the standard FOV (1x zoom) makes it hard to play without getting headaches. My stock FOV has my zoom at 0.82x by default and looks amazing, I have yet to have any cockpit view issues, many are still way outside my natural view at that zoom level even.
