I picked up my first BattleTech (aka Battledroids, 2nd Edition) box set from Union Station Hobbies in Sandy, Utah in November 1984, began playing in the spring, or earlier, of 1985, and started building the initial iterations of Armageddon Unlimited in August 1985, I think, under the name Red Death Squadron. I played BattleTech at least every other weekend from that point until 1989 when I graduated High School and we moved to Castle Rock, CO the DAY AFTER I graduated, and have had an impossible time finding a good tabletop face-to-face row ever since. That has never truly dampened my desire to play, I have read almost all the novels -I'm behind on a few Dark Ages ones-, I have picked up, read at the library, borrowed from friends -AND RETURNED, hehe-, or purchased as a PDF every game book up until 1999, and some others since that I've had a healthy interest in.
I began playing in early-mid 1998 with MechWarrior II: Mercenaries, and played through EVERYTHING produced for BattleTech since -I do not count the Mech Assault games as BattleTech-, and loved every minute of it. I started with the Northwind Highlanders of that time, a really great group of people -they would have known me as Afterburner or Burnie-, though when they decided to switch over to Clan Goliath Scorpion, and with me being a mercenary purist, I had to find my own way and, in later '98 I started Armageddon Unlimited. Ranger (who eventually became LightScout) was/is(?) the unit's Executive Officer, Panzer-Schrek was/is(?) the unit's Intelligence Officer and third in command (very much equal to LightScout), Spike was/is(?) the unit's Training OIC, a paralyzed veteran with a legitimate 11:2 kill ratio, Maverick was/is(?) the unit's Judicial/Contract Liaison, Adjutant, and the once-keeper of the flame when I fell, and John_Dozer was/is(?) the unit's former Clan Liaison and part of the Training Cadre. There were many many others, but those were all from the Command and Staff.
I have been attempting to write a Field Manual for Armageddon Unlimited for quite some time, now, with what I call little success, although 125+ pages already exist. I've been having difficulty getting past the actual chapter that outlines Armageddon Unlimited's successes and failures, their history, 'Mechs, etc. One day, especially if I can get some help, I'll be happy to finish it and try to get it into Catalyst Game Labs hands. It's really hard to write this thing on my own, however, especially when so many other real-life things are taking precedence.
I'm really glad to be here and, if the devs deliver what they say the will, as written in the Dev Blog 0 and PC Gamer articles, then this will be the game, for the most part, that I've always hoped for. I just really hope they pay attention to the tactical combat simulation board game, and the simulators of the MW series of PC games, and take out what I consider to be bad mistakes, then this will be the game for the ages for me.
Oh, to my old AU guys... I'm not going to be spending any time, beyond the absolute minimum, if I can help it, with adminstrivia, and that means I'll be on the field more, especially if the devs build in a system whereby everyone's progress, rank, etc. is tracked automatically. Having to do it by hand, especially through code, is a real mother bear.
Well, that's me, in a nutshell, and if anyone has anything else to address with me, feel free to PM me? Asking me in this thread is going to prove to be a bad move.

Battletech - Mechwarrior through and through. And the only thing I am saddened by is all of the older Mechwarriors we have lost in the past 10 years, who will not be here to play with us, when this new baby goes live.
OK....Its time to...well, FED RATS, line up, its time for your smackdown.

Oh, something I meant to say, above, is some of my call signs from the past... you might know me as Afterburner, Burnie, the_wolf, KayWolf, (AU6; in front of any of these names), and RedWolf. I have participated, before and during AUs existence, on every single BattleTech/MechWarrior-centered forum or site, if I was able, and in every league ever built for BT/MW, except for anything having to do with MPBT, which I sorely wish I would have been able to participate in. I also used to write the Argent Fire e-Zine... that's right, the crappy little e-Zine with almost no desktop publishing ability involved in it. It was taken over by the guys at battletechuniverse.org, but they only published two more editions before they quit, and they had a staff of something like 7 folks. This is not a poor reflection on them, because they did absolutely amazing DTP work on it, and it's not easy to write something like that. No, I am not going to pick the thread back up, unless I have a great deal of help to publish it. Though I have been quite prolific in the general BattleTech fandom, I have still never signed up for a subscription with BattleCorps, which I still regret. However, life has treated my family and I like absolute **** for the last 16 years, so I've also had to prioritize what I could afford, and what I could not.
As to my rank in the game... do I take it seriously? Yes, and no. I've earned my chops, but only in the on-line arena. Hopefully, I can get those chops back in MWO. Good day, my friends. <S>

I loved the original MW. I loved MW2. I loved MW3. I loved MW4. I loved the expansions. I hated the network code for all of them. Now there's a version of the games I loved designed from the ground up for online action? Oh yeah!
