UPDATE: [...]The Like a Champion MARK II event will be extended by a full 24 hours.

Hi Alex,

is it correct that the profile page tracking the challenges completion level is not reflecting this added day?

Could you please be so kind as to assure the correct Ending-Time is as follows:
TUESDAY FEBRUARY 24th 10:00:00 AM (PST)

TIA
eitsch

Playing like a sane person or going for kills during one of these is a recipe for pain and disgust. The win condition is basically irrelevant, because in a 12 man PUG people are going to feel like the "kill" is the only thing they have control of.

You want to have fun in this event without chasing after a 'Mech Bay? Pilot a spider 5v with full rear armor, max engine, jump-jets, radar deprivation, AMS and minimal weaponry. Charge past and through the enemy, then run away from your team. You will never see a group ablate faster to give chase than you will now.

I'd be interested to see how an event that gave points for surviving team mates on a win would play out.

There's a fair difference between "surviving team mates" and "surviving".
One encourages self interest and cowardice, the other encourages supporting your team and reducing damage to your side.

Well I am about half-way to 30 points, just by skilling up my new panthers and enforcers. Here is my dilemma. Tomorrow I have a day off, so I will break out my assaults to finish getting to 30 points. Here are my two options:

1) I play how I normally play, and wreck face with my KGC's and Dakkawolf. Sucking up 3-6 kills per match. I then however feel like a jerk for getting so many of the kills.

2) I get my first kill, and then start just trying to wound enemy mechs. (Aiming for legs/arms) But the problem is whenever I do this, my team seems to lose twice as often. I have to endure watching people missing at near point blank with any and all weapons while the wounded mech kills a teammate or two before someone can finish it off....

I am totally doing this after I get my 30 points! But with my spider 5D so I also get ECM, or my Anansi so I get dual AMS!

This is the only right way to play it.

If the other players want their kills, "they" should do something for it. "They" should work actively towards getting their own kill.

And for you it's hundred times better to win a game, have one or more kills and get that point for the challenge,
than to have one kill, lose game and stay without point for the challenge.

Seriously why do we not use match score as a metric for these challenges? Is there a good reason?

Formula for match score has changed "recently" and AFAIR not been reveiled yet.
So, I cannot vote for using it not knowing how it is calculated.

Edit: about the Event...its just frustratig for me. someone wrote about a 69% scoringpercentage-just wow. i got 7 Points out of 30 games. Today´s not my day...

I do not think he had a 69% success rate for points but straight forward match wins.
He mentioned 65 wins and 50 points:

- 50 pts achieved on 17:38:21 UTC (i believe that is what the tableau shows)
(snip)
All in all, I had 65 wins out of 94 games, which equates to 69,14% win ratio.

This weekend has been a nightmare. It took two days to get 9 points. (nearly a dozen hours) Today, no points at all. several matches I died so fast I have to ask, are people hacking in this game now? Never, have I had to ask before with MWO. PGI, your contests are making me not want to play. Is this what you want?

After the nightmare that was the Victor and Cataphract events I'm giving this one a pass. Working weekends I don't have the hours to dump into these that I used to and the most I could manage are four hours of continuous play a night.

Doing the math* on it I could probably squeeze in 24 matches a night assuming 10 minutes from one match to the next. This gives me a total of 72 total matches played and looking at the win rate only with a 50/50 chance to win then I've got a theoretical 36 matches I could win.

However using the statistics from the Cataphract event I had only a 43% win rate. Dropping my possible won matches to 31. Still not that bad but it takes a further hit when looking at the qualified percentage; a low 34% which brings my expected qualified matches to 24. Just short of the Raven and leaving me jaded again with only 3 days of premium time. Again, this assumes I use all my spare time playing and don't get burnt out by the third night.

Am I angry for no good reason? Probably. Should I be in game trying to get better? Again, probably. But so far this weekend I've been playing something less stressful. Dwarf Fortress.

*all numbers rounded to nearest integer.

As usual work interferes with this please extend this for the rest of the week. Or do a rerun for next weekend. This will be the first challenge I won't get completed. Not to mention crashing to desktop every third game or so. And every time I tried to exit a match I had died in with no kills.

I'm new. I started during last week. I did 2 out of 3 parts. Got no rewards what so ever. So far I got my prem time, got 12 points out of 25. That's after playing for 12 hours and playing very hard up.

I feel dirty killing a mech that someone spent 2 or 3 mins dog fighting. It's not a pleasant feeling to play like that.

I honestly don't understand the logic behind these events.

And I come from War Thunder Sim and Rb battling. and the events WT puts on are insane. This is not anywhere as bad, but know what makes MWO's events worse?

They force you to play in a way that isn't team based. It's ME based. Me, me, me, me, me.

I had people walk in front of me and admit to blocking me off so they could take my kill, shoot my arms off cause I killed something they wanted to kill, yet were not even near the conflict. Had people rocket me to death cause I got more then one kill(first time ever, I felt good)

Had people in a lance form a line so my friends and I couldnt get through certain choke points.

I may only be a new player, but it seems to me, the community has no care for events like these.

The fact that these don't change, shows you don't care all that much. You have ppl on your servers and website, so why would you right?

If you check Twitter, Russ is excited that the numbers this weekend are so high...they don't seem aware of how unhappy people are, and they think these events are a good thing purely from a numbers standpoint.

I sincerely hope that someone who has a say in something ends up reading this thread...they get more and more negative on each repetition of the same poor events, and Russ has even admitted he knew it was a bad formula, tossed it once, and now is for some unknown reason using it again.

Very confusing. It seemed they were listening to feedback, and then....and then....and then....

Pretty much yeah. I dono, I've played a lot of games and like I mentioned. War Thunder. They have awful events, the most recent ones giving "free" premium planes wanted 350 kills(no matter the mode) and someone did the math, there were 12 planes given away for "free"

The amount of time needed to do 6 of them, was more then time physically allowed.

So when I see MWO doing these types of events I am fearful, they're gonna turn into GE

oop, forgot stuff.

I find it funny that he can be on twitter talking about the high amount of numbers, as their player base gets toxic towards them.

I'm pretty laid back and dont give many fks about much. These events have turned me into a toxic cesspool of hate

I don't mind the requirements...but given that I work full-time, it's very difficult to actually take advantage of the 3 days worth of premium when you're working through the entire weekend, especially since there's no way to pause Premium time counters. :(

I hope they repeat this next weekend, too, so that I actually have a chance to win the tier prizes.

Leveling the Enforcers and Panthers can wait. I put myself, and my team at a disadvantage by running an unleveled build.

I mentioned this only because people were complaining how evil the win requirement was and that as solo-dropper in PUG you'd be screwed anyway. You are not (necessarily).

Just my 2 cents.

Im a +/- 1 month new Player. When I saw this event I knew I wanted to try to go for it. Well the 25 points achievement anyway, since I was working this weekend.

So I took out my mech with which I felt I had the more chance to influence a win and get a kill.

Result: I got to 26 late last night, after Id say about 7 hours of gameplay, all solo pug. Im gonna try a couple games tonight to see if I can get to 35.

I havent experienced the screwed MM. I had a decent win %. Only had a couple wins where I did not qualify for points.

Was it a grind? Hell yeah. Was it fun? Most of it was. Was it worth it? Yup. Got a mechbay, a free mech, and a ton of experience driving my selected mech (its stats increased a lot), plus a load of credits. Did it feel like a challenge? Oh yes it did. But I like challenges.

I feel like I've been rewarded for the efforts I've put in. It sure is doable. I agree the conditions for points could be tuned, but I disagree that it should be made easy mode so that everyone could get it with little investment. It IS a challenge, after all.

Good luck to all. See you on the battlefield.

I think this was the most pleasant challenge I've participated in yet. I didn't feel like I was struggling to get the points.

I used my new ENF-4R for 75% of the matches. It has quickly become my favorite mech. Really fits my play style well.

I now have another ECM mech for the upcoming 4v4 scouting matches.
