I reside in western New York State and my ping usually sits at 45-60, but rarely approaching the high end. I'm probably not as observant as some of my fellow pilots so I don't notice any hit registration issues, either from my end or from those shooting at me (enemy fire always seems pretty effective...).

My ping is typically around 90ms for MWO. My own personal experience is that hit registration is generally good - but I do see problems from time to time. Sometimes, it's hard to tell if I'm just spreading damage (I don't record my games,) but there are times...

One example is a confrontation I had with an Urbanmech in my Thunderbolt 5SS (yes, pulse lasers.) I blasted that boy at least three times, aiming center mass, and still didn't manage to kill him - he ran back to his team with all his bits intact. It could have been just a bad day for marksmanship, but that's not the only time this sort of thing seemed to happen to me lately.

So my experience at ~90ms is that it's good overall, but there are... hiccups.

Just had few games with 180 ping. Occasionally NOTHING registers no matter what you do, incoming registers just totally well. 7 60pts alphas to CT of a Zeuys, and it didn't even lose its armor?!? And 'Muricans are always a problem.
This kinda **** makes me so angry, that I want to de-bone coders dog as warning.

My ping is typically in the 90-140 range, and I have few if any issues.

I start to notice minor issues in 140-180 range, I have to start leading my shots a bit more and there is a noticeable delay when shifting targets or changing vision modes/zoom levels but the game is still quite playable. Around 250 or so I start to see occasional warping, or mechs running in place and at 350+ things just fall apart.

For the longest time my ping was 50-60 and that was great. Unless another player was over ~300 I could usually deal without too much frustration. Now, for whatever reason, my ping is usually 120-130. Not sure what happened, but the game is still pretty playable. I don't notice a big difference in hit-reg. Every once in a while someone will be running downloads or streaming a bunch of video in my house and my ping will shoot up to around 230-250. That level of ping is noticeably worse, although it also tends to be in periods where I have reduced bandwidth as well, so that could contribute. So for me, anything up to 130 is manageable, but somewhere between there an 230 it makes a big, noticable difference.

im running at steady 150ish ping

- firestarter, spider, and panther do not register damage in 50 % of the situations, only leg hitboxes seem to exist on these mechs, applies also on stationary mechs. Server load issue?

I´m usually in the 100-120 ping range, and have a feeling that maaany AC-10 rounds from my hunchback are not registering at all. A first hit always registers perfectly well, both visually and by red crosshair, but the 2nd consecutive hit regulary does not produce a red crosshair albeit visual hits land straight on target. 3rd hit will be okay again, with about a 50/50 chance of 4th hit registering, and so on..

Has been like that since i started using HBK-4H. It´s a pity.

Good afternoon Mr. Cunningham. Pleasure to meet you (online). :)

My experience somewhat reflects other posters above. Did not read through all 13 pages, but the gist is similar.

The only difference with my experience is the fact that my ping floats between 12 and 15. That's right, no typos; that's twelve to fifteen.

Here's what happens in any match of any game mode:

For the most part, I have no issues hitting what I'm aiming at, be that with energy, ballistics or missiles against players with pings of 150 or less. But as soon as the difference in pings climbs to 150 or more, then the registration and application of said hits becomes problematic.

You see, on my screen, say a Spider will be where I see it, but the server (as I understand things) says that that Spider is NOT where I'm seeing it, and fails repeatedly to update my client of where my target actually happens to be. Therefore, no matter how many times I try to hit players with pings above 150, it very often fails to actually be a hit.

On my screen, the enemy paper doll's armor location(s) will flash, but the color of armor and internal damage never changes. This is especially true when I try to shoot at targets with pings over 200+. Unless they are standing still and/or shutdown, I quit trying to shoot at those targets because I'm wasting my time. And trust me, I've been developing the habit that when hits are not registering, I take a quick look at the name of the player, and his ping on the scoreboard. Very often, this is the reason why I'm not dealing damage.

This brings me to a stunning example of a CW match I had over a month ago. I was in my Battlemaster 1G armed with a LPL and 6 MLs, and an enemy Spider 5K with a bright red right leg was being a distraction while his buddies were moving in to finish me off. Even with all the quirks and ML modules, it never mattered because this guy's ping (checked it after I died), was somewhere around 290, whereas mine was my usual 12 - 15. I managed to hit his right leg with all 6 MLs 7 times! Seven times!

Nothing... nada... zip.

He was jumping around all over the place pricking me with his machine guns, but nothing I did could leg him because no matter how often I shot at him, he wasn't actually where my client said he was on my screen.

I wouldn't even be the least bit surprised if that player thought I was a noob shot, constantly missing him, according to what he was seeing on his own screen.

And what's really sad is that MWO is the only game I've ever played where having such a low ping is a detriment to a player.

Anyways, I hope my wall of text is useful to your investigation into this matter, and hope a solution comes forth from this experience.

Thank you.
Caine

Had one rough match last night ... I figure it was probably a connection issue ...

Once the start-up sequence was complete, a note popped up in all chat ...

Quote

VOIP services not available this match

(or something to that effect)

My ping for the match was ~381. A very stable 381, I might add ... so little fluctuation that I was very concerned that I might not actually be connected to the match. I noticed that every 'mech on the mini map and in sight was warping, hopping around about every half second, so I disconnected and reconnected, thinking it might just be me.

When I rejoined the match, the symptoms were precisely the same.

Jon - If you want to track down the game logs, the match occured at about 1100Z, 14 Apr, was on Viridian Bog, and I know got 2 kills and I think I did about 580 damage.

But, yeah ... on topic ... 381 is not reasonably playable. I'm a very patient guy, but a night of this would have me wanting to break something.

That is weird. I have never had anything below 188 (Usually, 230ms), and everything is fine. I can land and predict my hits. Everything is smooth!

Periodic changes ping, short.

180-220ms
220-260ms

I noticed impossible to hit the target, because ping are constantly changing. (

I live in the Pacific region or Oceania region and my average ping used to be 250-275. Hitting specific points on a weak target is difficult. When facing light mechs it becomes completely a lucky shot or heavily relying on others to kill lights for you. To put it in perspective, a light mech can run circles around me without fear of being critically damaged. I have to pretty much " Use the FORCE " when dealing damage to them.

If you can swap to Internet Solutions, I recommend it! We have priority routing with them for our title.

If you have contact details for your ISP, send them my way.

Just thought I would mention that the NEW Telco provider running Fibre in South AFrica is run by Dark Fibre Africa http://www.dfafrica.co.za/contact/ ........... They have a ping to the US of under 175. Most of the new fibre lines are being installed by them.

I get 15 ms and I never notice any jitters or stuff like that. Sometime I will see some players warp a bit, but I think it's on there end.

Where are the server located?
Montreal?

Last 3 days have been so bad, that today even NARC-probes flew right through enemies :P
Not to mention few disconnetcs, module violations etc.
Worst time is between 20-22PM EEST=10-12AM PDT, only lockable weapons work during that period.

Before March 2015 my ping was 50-60. That was decent and allowed me to play competitively. But in March my ping began soaring. Eventually it settled down to 100-110. This is pug-playable but I am having serious difficulties playing fast lights in competitive matches. Hit reg also seems to have degraded a bit.

Did the servers get moved in March? Seems a lot of us have encountered this increase in ping.

I am from Australia. Before you moved servers it was just below 300 - which seemed fine to me. Now its is closer to just under 400 - with mixed results, sometimes is fine other times clear shots just dont seem to register. If my ISP becomes over taxed - going over 500, it is unplayable. (though this really is nothing to do with you.

I usually sit anywhere from 64-85 which is good, But I started having issues today where I would fluctuate from 125 - 350+. made sure no one was streaming anything and no updates were downloading on my PC, and had no effect. At 125, clear shots would hit 50/50, and as it went up it just got worse and worse. At 300+ I found it to be unplayable and quit for a few hours.
