I am generally not a fan of SRM on large slow mechs. Srm's do better on a quick mech more able to get into range and more agile to properly use srm's.

I wouldnt use an XL on any IS heavy or assault, or even medium brawler mech. I tried a few times. Although there is an XL in my Centurian which is awsome.

Try the Quickdraws... its like the Gargoyle for space without a XL....

Loving the XL-Zeus, I can confirm: he don0t want to die!

2lpl+3ml in a xl350 (thinking to upgrading to 3mpl when mastered)

Finished this at 30% armor.

I liked the Zeus 6S. I originally wanted to do a LRM & AC5s on the 6S, but the LRM bug in the patch annoyed me so I switched to brawling. It felt pretty zippy, a lot of fire went to the torsos, so XL engines aren't a good idea, IMO. I think they need a bit more quirking on the torsos. For some reason I kept losing the right arm alot, no biggie it only had an SRM6 in it, so that sort of became a shield side in combat. The AC5 quirks plus level 5 cooldown module is sick. On chain fire its really sick. I took on a DDC toe-to-toe with 2AC5, 4ML, SRM6 and wrecked him. Those AC5s kept him rocking so he couldn't use the AC20 much, kept missing.

I thought it was pretty zippy with a 320 engine in it, torso twisting was pretty good w/out basics unlocked. Once eliting is done, it should be great.

Also tried a SRM6, LL, AC10, 3ML build, that was pretty strong also.

Looking forward to what the other variants can do. Probably going to make the 9S a brawler and try LRMs on the 6T.

I did a lot of experimenting with my Zeus' last night... I see lots of potential but have not settled on the right configuration that feels "right".

Tried ranged support, tried brawling and tried skirmish... So far I think, at least for the "6" I'll likely settle in the skirmish range. ^_^

I think xl engine is good but only if xl350 and up: in my tests with xl, zeus can survive well only if he has enough speed, so you can hide well, cover, twisting, spreading, etc. Below xl350, he hasn't enough speed and enemy can aim pretty well your ST.
The perfect xl engines for zeus are xl360 and xl 375.

Zombie Zeusst ST320 is perfect.

So far I've been enjoying the 6S the most. Std 320, Gauss, LRM15, 4xML. It's got 4 tons of Gauss and 3 of LRM, which is a bit more than I'm used to carrying but lets me pull off "questionable" shots without worrying about wasting ammo. It makes for a fun mid-range support Assault, with enough firepower to hold its own if it gets rushed, or so I've found in my opinion.

I also like the 6T, Std320, 3xSRM6, LPL, 3xMPL. Wubzeus. Both are fun so far.

I'll try the XL in the 9S, going to keep the STDs in the 6S and 6T because I'm brawling in them ATM. I was also been picking up a lot of lights hanging on my ass last night trying to open torso spots. I had to move more armor to the back because of that.

xl 380
max frontloaded armor
uac5
lrm15
4mplas
bap

this has been working well for me, as a sort of 'stock' loadout. Just play it like a medium and you'll do fine.
my only other successful 'balanced' mechs are my phoenix battlemaster and thunderbolt, both laserboats with an LRM15 thrown on. Talk about underwhelming quirks though, ouch.

I'm running the 6s really simple- 2 AC5 w/6 tons ammo, 3 mpl, ams. Like a bigger brother of the Dragon 1n, with more armor. Does really well, people seem to ignore me for more "seroius" threats which allows me to wreck some faces.

I'm presently running my -6 with a AC/10, LRM-15 and lLas x 2 and an XL...

So far it gives me punch at all ranges and doesn't feel as squishy as it does inside brawl range.

The funny thing is while I don't have a flipping kill in it yet, I'm having fun piloting it!

Apparently my love of the mech is blinding my judgment...

The Zeus does not compare to a Dire Wolf or King Crab or Victor or Stalker so I feel like I am holding the team back by using a slot that one of those mechs could fill. Zeus should be tougher, though not as tough as a Carb or Atlas. I have won some games with it, but as soon as it starts taking damage it dies fast to anything. Panthers, Pumas, anything.

One Bug is you get no sound from rear attacks so the first you know is when the crit warnings start coming in.

Zeus is the new old Awesome as far as I can tell and I know the old barn door Awesome the best of any mech in MWO.

Very XL friendly.

I put an XL in mine for the simple fact that on my build (and pretty much any of the ones not using missiles), if I lose the left torso, I lost all my guns anyways.

What I'm running on mine;
[smurfy]http://mwo.smurfy-ne...996327f1df796cd[/smurfy]

350XL, 2 ERLL, 2 AC5, and an SRM6 because my OCD demands some sort of missile be loaded in that hard point.

I haven't had time to play with the 9S or 9T, but I'm guessing I'll probably use the std 320 on the 9S because I don't have the C-bills for an XL and ER large lasers weigh less than ballistics anyway.

So far (2 games early this morning) the 6S has been fun. I'm running this build which I put together real quick just to test out the mech. It feels pretty tough and the hardpoints are alright. Not super nimble but definitely more mobile than the 100 tonners which I still haven't gotten a hang of.

Looking forward to spending more time in the mech and to find a build I really like

One of the hardest things getting use to is the fact that its so left side heavy -- most 'Mechs favor either the right side, or symmetrical. It's made me have to pick different routes and cover points.

Weapon wise, yeah - missile range is about as useless as quirks come. That said, 2.5 tons of free armor ain't so bad.

Hate to say it, but I just dropped on River City Night and creeping through the dark alley's I got 7 kills and 2 assists with the ZEU-6T. SRMs and LPLs. Normally it is a damage magnet though, gets cored from behind with no sound (BUG) and then dies as soon as it's front armor blows through.

I have to say, the Zeus is a disappointment. The proliferation of boating designs has obsoleted the Zeus before it was even added to the game. It either needs more hardpoints, or better quirks, or the boatability of some other designs needs to be reduced (which, IMHO, is the way to go).
