And then...
There's been a lot of confusion over the difference/relationship between hardpoints and critical slots.
A LOT of confusion.
I guess we'll find out for sure once the game launches.
Count me as one of the confused.
I though the devs said something about there may be unused hardpoints in certain mechs, so you could trade a PPC for two lasers. Or something along those lines.

[DAVID] The hardpoint system will be related to how many weapons are in the default loadout, and not how many slots those weapons take up.

Yeah, looking back over this information, I suspect that's something they may do.
So, really, the SSRM-2 missleboat Cat depends on how many extra missile hardpoints it has. And we just don't know at this point.

1) Each location that can house a weapon has a Hardpoint limit (usually 2-3 of one weapon type).
2) The hardpoint system just adds an additional limitation to the traditional Battletech construction system
3) You will need to meet the weight / critical space requirements of the weapon and you cannot put more than (x) of that kind of weapon in that specific location as dictated by the Hardpoint stat.
4) This prevents boating because even if you have the tonnage and critical space for 12 SRM 4 launchers on your torso, the Hardpoint system says you can only put 2-3 missile systems there.
5) Boating may be possible for mechs that have multiple locations that have the same Hardpoints but since we have not seen all the hardpoints yet, it is difficult to know which ones we can boat with what weapon.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but this is how I understand it.

Exactly same as TT except Hard points or arms, legs and torsos to us cannot have a mixture of weapon types.

The Crusader -2R packs two LRM 15 racks and 4 Streak-2 launchers. The -4DR does as well, as does the -4D.
From what I have seen they normally allow an extra hardpoint even if there is only one weapon system, so it might be safe to assume that the Stalker can carry around 8 missile systems.

So theoretically a COM-2D could have:
RA: 2 Missile HPs, 8 crit slots
CT: 2 Missile HPs, 2 crit slots
LA: 2 Energy HPs, 8 crit slots
I suspect tonnage will be more of a limitation than anything else in the COM-2D, but I'd suspect you could fit 4 SSRM2s in it without a problem, probably with 2 medium lasers depending on armor and speed tradeoffs.

Name one mech in the BT universe that mounts six separate missile systems.
Vulture A is the only one that comes to mind right off the bat, but it is an omni.
I can think of plenty that have four. The base STK-3F for example, and it is already in game. The STK-5M had 5, if the NARC launcher counts as a missile slot.

LOL I bet it would be like playing Freelancer on the FLU server (boosted missile damage, once the shields were gone 1 cannonball one hit killed, even when you were not moving at all) with nothing but javelins. That load out on an Eagle could one hit kill even with the best shield.

I saw a few others mentioned, but let us not forget the lowly Arctic Wolf, mounting a staggering 8 missile systems (6x SRM 6's and 2x SRM 4's), and a Narc beacon to boot.
