Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the mechs that came after or during the clan invasion supposed to be omni mechs? Why aren't there IS mechs that can swap out hardpoints to some degree?

Also Mechwarrior itself is not and to the best of my knowledge was never meant to be an FPS it is a sim game so LRMs and other long range weapons are totally relavant. To say the lack of joystick support alone agitates me would be an understatement, but if PGI can actually produce good mechs then let them.

Yes I too think that the shield could be bigger and that it could have shoulder mounts for weapons. I do, however, think that it along with the other mechs in this pack should also be real omni mechs and not just the new IS solution. Even during the time of MW4 clan tech was better than IS so I don't see the reason to gripe about the IS stuff not working as good as the clan.

The IS didn't start producing mechs that could compete with the clans until further into the invasion anyway. When those came into being they had clan tech or tech based off of clan tech in them. Nerfs and bonuses shouldn't be necessary in a game like this in the first place.

Of course there are always players that other suspect are using hacks for the game as well and at least in some cases they probably are. As well they may also be the cause of people wanting to gripe about the effectiveness of certain tech when it was never that good in the first place. Do people even think of such things?

The number of IS OmniMechs that came after 3050 is not too high. Some of them are:
3052 - Raptor
3055 - Black Hawk-KU
3056 - Firestarter Omni, Avatar, Owens, Sunder
3057 - Strider, Blackjack Omni
3058 - Perseus
etc.

And of course the multitude of standard BattleMechs ...

Who knows, maybe PGI will release some "IS OmniPack" in the future.

Probably generous amounts of quirks to reduce heat generated by firing all his lasors. I'm guessing somewhere in the 10-20% range. Yeah, gunna watch as the BK gets all the quirks the WHK should have...10-20% more heat dissipation.....seeing as it has 20t of 1.4 HeatSinks stuck on it.

Yea, the recoil from a beam of light is a MF'er. I'm glad they mounted those energy hard points near it's center of mass to combat that :).

I'm kidding of course, but in seriousness, this is a game. Weapon placement should be taken into consideration for balancing purposes. Besides, I now believe the weapons being half way up the torso would have helped a bit. Mostly I just want the darn CT fixed.

As it currently stands, the Black Knight is more Mechbay decoration and less combat vehicle.

P.S. The Mauler is still cool in my book. I'm glad I upped the package. Had I kept the BK as the top mech, I would have REALLY been bummed.

MechWarrior 4 had a way of making every mech look insanely ugly. The Catapult looked atrocious and the Madcat MKII had pipe cleaner legs that kind of bowed out at the knee joints. Heck, the Atlas looked less like a menacing monster and more like he had just heard a joke and started chuckling.

MechWarrior 3 was really the last good MechWarrior title IMO. MW4 was just kind of ...ehh.

Perhaps you're just bad players?..ive seen players absolutly rip enemy teams apart with the Black Knight.
So maybe ya need to examin you're fits or learn to play better.

Regardless of what you have "seen", Black Knights are not very high on the list of heavy mechs when it comes to overall performance. We will see how the CT hitbox tweak goes, but even still, its not going to be anywhere near tier one unless it gets some stronger quirks, especially on the non-6B variants.

Or maybe you are playing in the Underhive, since that is the only place they are in any numbers, let alone ripping everything up.

Gman, who runs MetaMech's, has already stated that at least one variant is Tier 3, and the rest probably Tier 4.

It's not a tier 5 mech, and anyone who thinks it is is a moron.

I have a feeling some of these rankings are based on the...but it's got 8 energy hardpoints so it MUST be good.

I've been using this mech, it is frustrating to use. When you are on Frozen City and an enemy pops up on the hill 200m away and you think..."Good, I got him!", line up your shot, alpha strike, and all but 3 of your beams hit the target (the other 5 burying themselves into the hill at his feet...at 200m away! That is frustrating!

I've played in River City, tried to use buildings for cover. Good I think, flat terrain, I'll side poke. I pop out, land a good shot, twist away and back into cover. As I do this...twisted away from the target, I watch my CT turn from yellow armor to no armor and orange internals as I'm looming away slipping back into cover.

This isn't just occurrences here and there, it happend all the time. This mech has problems with hitting targets on nearby elevation with the low slung hard points. It has a big CT you can't protect by twisting. A Catapult can protect it's CT better by twisting.

I don't know what tier this mech technically falls into and I really don't care. This Black Knight frustrating to use, and it really shouldn't have to be.

Played once and now they are sitting in their bays collecting dust. They are not a terrible mech and certainly not the worst I have gotten (*cough* Panther *cough*) and I will pull them out again, but with the team mentality in full swing and the BK unable to help a team win (most of the time) it isn't a mech worth fighting with. Now if it became a true commander mach then it would be solid.

Then you feel wrong.

That's not how Gman ranks mechs on metamechs at all.

Hardpoint numbers might be a factor, but it's rarely a very important one.

I don't really agree with this.

My BK-6R with 2x AMS and various energy builds with a BAP sitting in the middle of an Assault lance is a HUGE boon to your team.

Not only can you prevent vulnerable heavies (KGC comes to mind) from missiles spam, but you make it impossible to ECM them and ruin their composition that way too.

This is how I run mine and in Tier 3, I win far more games then I lose in the 6R.

Ha-ha, you ordered what was known to be a 75 ton Awesome 8QQ, and are disappointed to the point where you will stop preordering.

That's like preordering a diet cola and becoming disenfranchised with preordering once you find that it tastes different from regularsoda, even though you already knew that diet soda tastes different.

The reason is "obvious" but makes little sense until the 75t Clan TW somehow becomes less than what it is. Comparing Oranges to Apples is never fair.

P.S. How would a BK vs Orion 1v1 go? That may be a fairer assessment of 2 75t machines. ;)
