Only reason I said Activision and EA is because they both have history being involved in Mechwarrior however EA was a bit of a stretch because I found this trailer online

Also looks like they were pretty far into programing it.

They Atlas at the end raised its arms!

Screw that, the game is already a CoD fest as it is.

You gotta think bigger. If Sony had it or Daybreak had it MWO might get evolved into a MechWarrior version of Planetside 2..... one can hope right?

But Activision made the original games. And they were good. I'd rather buy a complete product than more of this free to play nonsense.

Of course, this means the original designers would need come back, too.

What about Capcom?

In less than a year we'll have Mechwarrior 2 HD Edition, MWO Remaster, MW Zero, MWO Ultra Turbo HD Remix, MWO 3D (for 3DS), MechWarrior Chronicles, MechWarrior vs Gundan (SD Fighter) and a couple of movies.

Pretty far? It was pretty good. Lots of us played the beta. And then EA effed us all over and shut it down overnight.

Yes they were so far along...it was better than MWO
It had working awesome fun as fk Community Warfare....without even needing Clans
If they had added Clans...drooooolll......

Of course, and every mech will have a super attack.
Atlas would be Small laser, Small laser, throtlle, SRM2, AC20.

The creaking and popping noises your 'mech made while jump jetting... ohhh it was so good. You could jump so high! And you blasted off, like a rocket!

I don't think MWO is even MechWarrior or Battletech, come to think of it.

None of that is happening. Those people have probably moved on. Activision now would just rehash the game every year if it was profitable. With the same thing over and over. BUT it's not profitable. No one was interested in publishing or making a new Mechwarrior single player game. So you would be waiting an incredibly long time for it to happen.

PGI took the IP from unprofitable step child no developers wanted. And did well enough that Microsoft extended their license. If ever there comes an interest to make another single player title. It'll probably be because PGI made it appear profitable.

No kidding. EA shut down MPBT:3025 while in open beta to make another handful of boring, nobody wants them, drift racing games.

EA sucks.

Ah MPBT:3025, how I miss you.

It would fail by today's standards. First off there was no mech lab and no plan to have a mech lab ever. You bought mechs and drove them stock, that's it. I was a monster in the FS9-M, that's the only stock Firestarter to not have flamers that did jack-crap. The HBK-4P was murder in that game.

It was fun and the various house commands were rocking. I started Liao because they had a good join bonus, then switched to Davion when a pal of mine joined there and I've been a House Davion loyalist since.

The game had great ideas, newbies had to do a basic tutorial then a bunch of 4v4 missions on "Solaris" before they could graduate, be gifted a stock Commando and choose a faction.

There was a directory in the game files where you could drop mp3 files and the game would randomly pick one and loop it while you played as music.

When you attacked a planet, you sat in a lobby waiting for other players to show up. If none did, the ticks for that planet increased. You had the flexibility to drop 1-8 per side.

But the game had problems, teams would fill up a queue, say they're dropping lights, you'd pick lights then at the last second they'd switch to heavies and destroy you. That sucked.

Also there was nothing stopping players from making alt accounts in factions they didn't like then dropping against the alts to flip planets -- that was a big problem.

Still the game had a lot of promise, the mechs were kinda slow and terrain was sparse, so you tanked damage and that was that. The community was fun as hell and it had a lot of ideas that was way a head of its time. It could have been a true competitor to EverQuest which was king back then.

But then EA yanked it, out of the blue to move its sweatshop SEs over to drift racing games.

EA bought "Multiplayer Battletech" out right from FASA Interactive, and as far as I know, they still own that IP like Microsoft owns "Mechwarrior" and "MechCommander"

Tripwire is definitely out, seeing as they are self-proclaimed gun-nuts and specialises in FPS games.

Yeah. That's what it was. That's why it's still profitable. Because even though they got burned once, twice, three times. People keep buying mech packs and playing the game. I dunno, maybe it's fun.

CDprojektred is a game maker to keep an eye on. I read somewhere they delayed the Witcher 3 by pulling staff from that game and adding it to the staff doing Cyberpunk 2077. I think they have their hands full at the moment and I wish them luck.

To me, Activision and EA are publishers, not developers. In any case though, I completely agree with the OP. I do get the feeling that PGI doesn't really support MWO and that they are more interested in making fast cash off of peoples nostalgia by selling overpriced mechs for $90 instead of actually trying to make a decent game. Only three names that come to mind that I believe would actually try making a good Mechwarrior game are Mektek (Preferred since they did so much for MW4:M and likely had plans to even re-release the game with new graphics in the future), DICE, and Respawn Entertainment.

I honestly couldn't come up with a better thread name, so there.

Anyway, I ask this because after witnessing quite a number of whiny posters complaining about how "PGI is a sham" and "we should bankrupt them" etc,etc after the recent nerfs, it got me wondering how others feel about this topic. What are your opinions?

I also have trouble figuring out what company outside of PGI would be willing to take on the prospect of holding on the the Mechwarrior franchise considering how niche it is, and the first real attempt at resurrecting it only happened over a bleeting decade after the last MW game. Could it be said that PGI saved MW from complete obscurity then, since no other company appears interested in it outside of Harmony Gold trying to milk us via "lolsuemore"?

This is sort of echoing you but here goes:

Microsoft was sitting on the "Mechwarrior" IP they bought form FASA Interactive when FASA was dying out and since MechAssault they'd done nothing with it and had no intention to do anything with it. Microsoft owns a lot of IP like this. They bought it because it seemed like a good idea at the time then forgot they had it.

Along comes Jordan Wiesman and wanting to get back into the IP he invented, so he fishes around a bit, finds Russ and Bryan and they cook up a scheme to bring Mechwarrior back from the dead.

Once Russ and Bryan had raised enough capital to lease the IP from MS they were going to go back 3005 in the time line and make a traditional SP game with some net code bolted on as has been done in the past. They made the now famous and smacked down by Harmony Gold, video and shopped it around.

No publisher was interested in the IP. The business plan looked solid, but nobody wanted to invest in "Mechwarrior" They shopped the IP all over the world, nothing.

So Russ has a buddy who wants to get into games publishing, and he forms IGP who would then publish PGI's game and MWO was born.

Its not a matter of if PGI is worthy or not, its a matter that they are the ONLY ones even remotely interested in making a game.

So dump on PGI all you want folks, they're the only legal game in town. MWLL was in a gray area, tolerated by MS. They had some protection from MS by staying free and they had the understanding that if a for-profit enterprise ever formed around the Mechwarrior IP, they'd have to shut down.

Going negative on PGI and trying to starve them out is a great way to make sure we never see a Mechwarrior game again. Because doing so just proves MW isn't a viable product and MS will sit on the IP now and forever like EA does with "Multiplayer Battletech" and "Battletech" names. Because of EA's ownership of "Battletech" and the fact that they're sitting on it is the reason why the only other decent BT game is called "MegaMek"

Just giving you the truth folks. Flame me all you want and say bad things about PGI and their families, you won't change the facts I've just unspooled above.

It's irrelevant whether they are "worthy" or not. It's called capitalism. They paid their dime to license the IP , so until that license expires, they can do with it what they like.

Sure they are doing a good "worthy" job considering the circumstances that are in motion. PGI just needs to be treated with a continuous improvement and minimal complacency type of approach. Tis the burden for carrying such a game title.
