I think just make the Summoner tougher. It will never carry much compared to other mechs near it's tonnage. I suppose maybe faster recharge quirks.

IS Engines (XL or Standard) > Clan XL on Clan Omnimechs... when it comes to customizeability (see Mist Lynx, Gargoyle, Nova, Clan Lights in general, and a few others).

I had floated an idea here once before.

That any Clan Mech could remove their Clan XL in order to swap to any size engine - with the caveat that the new engine may only be an IS STD or an IS XL engine with all of their drawbacks.

You could swap back into the stock CXL sized engine at any time in the mechlab, but you could never swap into any size CXL that you wanted.

I suspect most players using clan mechs under 40 tons would want to make that trade off almost without question.

The Mediums we have from 55T to 45T would probably have to consider it very carefully.

I'd wager the vast majority of players using 60T to 100T Clan mechs would most likely not make that trade off - outside of some edge cases.

Mostly it's a mental exercise to ask oneself if the trade off of losing CXL benefits is actually worth the added customization potential.

It's plenty tough as it is. I can run stock SMN armor against some decently high Elo matches, and be one of the last down, because it has good hitboxes and twists well.

What it lacks is the ability to credibly lay out legitimate damage for a 70 tonner in the drop deck. Or endurance if you do try to mount a few heavy weapons.

I'm totally fine with locked engines and various other things - I would really like to see various size engines in the different chassis though, because that would do a lot to give each one its own identity and purpose.

Also think that hard points/loadouts/upgrades (especially) can and should break with canon for mechs like this and some of the under performing and low variant mechs on both sides. Not it ways that necessarily make anything overpowered to make the meta of that month look silly, but to give players more options and more ability to field a wider variety of mechs and weapons.

For the clan mechs that underperform I can't imagine it wouldn't suck up a terrible amount of time to just start releasing different pods with slightly modified visual masks to account for the hardpoint changes. One would think that they had a multitude of pod choices anyhow given the entire point of the swappable system was to increase choice and flexibility. And if you combined this with the x/8(7with locked cts) set system to provide the synergy quirks it would very quickly add miles of depth to the clan side of building mechs.

That's what you're assuming. With all due respect, in the land of heavies, a Summoner is at the BOTTOM of my list of mechs that need to die first.

You just explained "why" it's at the bottom.

Not saying it can't DO damage or be a threat depending on who's piloting it... but with 11 other mechs to worry about, I'd place a Summoner next to or under the guy that's been DC'd all match.

Not about assumption. I get focused on pretty much all the time. Kind of the curse of being recognizable (heck last time we crossed paths...you went out of your way to frag me in your Cicada). I can spread damage on it almost as well as my Shadowhawk or Centurion. It's plenty tough, it just lacks firepower. People go for the perceived weakest link almost all the time.

Hey now... let's be fair, you were going to be my 4th kill!

When I saw it was a CTF-0XP by itself I got greedy, but once I closed in and ID'd you... oh yeah I wasn't about to disengage! You know how aggressive I play that Cicada then against a lone mech. If that'd been a Summoner, it'd have been over!

Actually, I play my Summoner better than I do CTFs. Because I find them much tougher. That was a bottom end score for me...using a stock SMN-P. Of course, YMMV...based on respective level of team suck....as demonstrated shortly after killing you.... when I got mobbed, lol.

Summoner is plenty tough

The problem with the Summoner is the lack of podspace.

Which is fixed by making jumpjets on non-S omnipods removeable. Only jumpjets on S-omnipods should be locked.

Yes, so we can heave another Hellbringer, with worse pods and no ECM. Unlocking the JJs removes one thing that helps with ti's toughness, feathering JJs. Also it's a "solution" that ONLY addresses the SMN, and no the other second class mechs.

You guys are so ungratefull. What about the 5% speed quirk it got?!

Its sheet mech, but it can run 93km/h! Be happy!

Of the current Clan heavies... we have to have a mech that's faster than the rest... because hax!

Now only if the Mist Lynx could have some of that...

Um youd still be able to re-add jumpjets. Youd just have the option to remove them. My solution helps ALL clan mechs that are plagued by locked jumpjets. All non-S omnipods would have unlocked jumpjets. While all S-omnipods would have locked jumpjets since S omnipods exist specifically for the purpose of adding jumpjets.

And no the Summoner is faster/more agile than the Hellbringer with the option of jumpjets. It has a completely different role as the Hellbringer. The Summoner fills the heavy flanker/skirmisher role. Its very similar to the Dragon except without the ballistic punch because Clan ACs suck... but that needs to be fixed.

And if clan lasers get a much needed range nerf and Clan ACs get a much needed buff that would also help the Summoner.

Problem is that clan ACs are not very viable. Fixing Clan-ACs might help the Summonor, too.

HOnestly? I believe that soon MLX will become top tier clan light, asked by community to be nerfed, considering how the quirks ended up for SCR and TW.

+40% cERLL beam duration (Because weapon OP)
-40% Max Speed (Because 124.7km/h is just way too much for 25t clan mech)

yes, because future pods help with the fact that current pods, and the mech in general, are obsolete, and that all the other chassis have pods that will still keep them superior to those Pods.

Don't worry, we'll eventually get the 55 tonner that moves 124 Kph as a base speed...and can MASC to 160 Kph.

That's while having up to 10 E hardpoints (or 6E 4B) and 11.5 tons of pod space. It can do 4M2E as well, so it does the Spladder better...and worse, but debatable which is best.

It can't jump, but it does everything else better.

By the way...it also has a head mounted Jesus Box.

Nah the Gauntlet is like 3128... the timeline better not progress that far because because that part of the timeline is stupid.
