This might just be a matter of poor wording, but there's nothing to get the rights to, period. They're reimaging the mechs (in a way that maintains their original flavor and basic look) so that there's no rights disputes at all. CGL is looking to create their own versions of the mechs that will forever be able to be used in-house without any rights issues ever again.

I had a LONG talk with the guys at Catalist

1) the designs are by our very own shimmering sword...

2) they are redesigns and are different enough to dodge law suits...

3) the sculpt for the new war-hammer fig was at the con.. its sexy

4) there has been no S&D or any action by HG as of yet... if you put one mech next to the other they look similar but not the same...

5) there is hope we can see them here in MWO

It's still nice to get reassurances that CGL has taken all legal aspects into account and has thoroughly planned out the "reimaging" to be different enough to avoid legal confrontation.

Actually, you are not realizing that it was FASA/FanPro/CGL who gave up and lost ... many years ago.

"But at the end of that court case, as part of a confidential settlement, it was agreed that the sole and exclusive world-wide right to these images (outside of Japan) would rest with another US company [i.e. Harmony Gold]."

It's Harmony Gold who keeps rights to those designs such as Unseen Warhammer, Archer, Rifleman, Crusader, Longbow, etc. and produces their miniatures.

It's CGL who has had to come with would-be-Warhammer - known as Hammerhands, and who is now coming with Ersatz-Warhammer, Ersatz-Marauder and other re-imagined Unseens.

Actually, HG would lose a court case if allowed to run it's full course. The issue is, HG could afford to litigate longer than FASA could therefore they settled out of court lest FASA go bankrupt in the process. In reality, HG has no more right to the designs than anyone else in the mix.

However, facts are facts. Harmony Gold (and their licensees) are producing the Unseens and have FASA-issued and CGL-confirmed waiver saying that the Unseens are Harmony Gold's property, while CGL is not producing the Unseens.

It's pretty obvious who from the pair Harmony Gold - FASA/CGL gave up and lost.

Just, go find somewhere else to be a downer, we're getting the unseen, even if they're not the same, we're getting them, that's something to be stoked about.

Who cares who gave up? FASA only gave up because HG had more money to litigate. And CGL didn't APPROVE anything, in fact last I'd heard, they got a seedy phonecall stating basically "Remember the deal" when they tried to do the 25th anniversary stuff with the unseen Whammy, and decided to pull back from doing anything with it for fear of a problem.

Twitter will comb through your browser history and anything on you cellphone (if you let it), so if you visited any site with Taylor Swift on it, that is probably how it got there.

My Twitter account had been created just to get the latest MWO news and to poke the devs too, but I ended up with all kinds of non-MWO related stuff before I deleted my account.
