Well this came out of nowhere. Harebrained Schemes brought Shadowrun back to the PC with the original creator and now they want to do it again with BattleTech. It seems that old FASA creators keep coming back from the woodwork!

TACTICAL ‘MECH
COMBAT RETURNS TO THE PC.
Harebrained Schemes is pleased to announce their return to Kickstarter this Fall to partner with Backers in co-funding the creation of BATTLETECH. Jordan Weisman, the creator of BattleTech and MechWarrior, is back with the first turn-based BattleTech game for PC in over two decades. Steeped in the feudal political intrigue of the BattleTech universe, the game will feature an open-ended Mercenaries-style campaign that blends RPG ‘Mech and MechWarrior management with modern turn-based tactics

My guess it will play more like MechCommander than actual table top Battletech, but it bringing more Battletech to the PC world can only be good for the entire PC franchise.

Damnit, wrong forum! Oh well, can we all get a cookie then?

Probably best to lock this one up, and head over to the BT sub forum.
Cheers!

Their Shadowrun games are really nice.

But is it just me, or do the recent Models from the Tabletop (re-Unseen) and the Atlas from this one look a lot like the MWO 'Mechs?

Mercenaries style campaign? Single player battletech? Turn based combat?

Open the damn kickstarter. My wallet is ready.

I fell in love with the turn based mech action ever since I player the Front Mission series in SNES and Playstation. Now that was a good series.

But we all know how Mechwarrior Tactics had turned out.

The good thing is that it's made by HBS and NOT IGP.

HBS has successfully revitalised Shadowrun with Shadowrun Returns, and I have confidence that they will do the same with Battletech.

I wonder if they're going to try to streamline and modernize the turn-based game like the new X-com game did for the X-com series. It wasn't entirely successful, but it was a fairly good compromise between simple controls and complex gameplay. Or maybe something like Fallout Tactics, which essentially let you go play the same game as turn-based or RTS as you preferred.

HBS did a great job with Shadowrun, I'll definitely help back this project.

I figured if HBS did a Battletech game it'd be a turn-based style game.

Not really out of nowhere. There was some talk a month or so back that HBS was tackling another FASA franchise, and most of us figured it was either Crimson Skies or Battletech. Since Russ tweeted about it, I was personally leaning toward it being BT. Glad to see I was right, now it just has to survive Kickstarter I guess.
