You wanna hear a solo player..well here I am.
I have to say I just re-started MWO. CW was still a dream when I stopped...and reading through some of this stuff here made me feel kinda unwelcome.
Anyway some of my impressions of the few matches I had with CW and my two cent. (Note that I only have played a few matches so far.)
First impression: "is this waiting normal for this mode? It takes forever!"
I even got the tip from another player to start reading all my Battletech books to pass time.
Still I waited...and waited...you get the point and then finaly a match started. Luckly for me I got into a group of my faction and it was great. I realy liked it. Preselection of 4 Mechs with a weight restriction and a big group that coordinates towards a single goal. Thats fun, I liked it.
On the other side...I am more of a cooperative player for a certain time.
Fighting together for 2-3 matches, coordinated by someone more experiant then me. All fine, but joining a group. Nope won't happen, just because that is not my way.
Still the style of how CW plays...that is why I prefer it over the solo ques. This more "Mission" style of gameplay. I think you could even make it more complex and interesting with bigger maps where you need a fast group to get to a point so that the heavys can push through at another point of the map and so on. I think there is quite some room for more interesting gameplay.
Anyway about some stuff that was said here:
"Solo players not beeing good enough."
I think that generalisation of people dosn't work. As some others said, just because you aren't in a group dosn't make someone a bad player.
The more importend part is, how well are people willing to coordinate with the rest of the team.
"Endgame gameplay"
You know what I consider the final challange? Not playing with your super optimiesed hero whatever mech but with the so called trail mechs or as I would call them "originals".
Get these freaking costum mechs out of CW !!!
The real challange is to have a Mech that constantly overheats, has lousy weapon configurations and still wins the day. To all these "elites" that think they are so good. Get back into these trail mechs, show people that you can win even when beeing bad equiped.
I doubt anyone will like that idea but seeing the mechs running around in CW...they are exactly what happend when I was still playing the boardgame and we first allowed costum mechs. Everyone was just using the calculator and everyone had basicly the same mech.
Its boring and takes away a tactical componet of the game. Recognising a mech, rembering its abilitys and then acting acordingly. Now its just: "oh is it a medium lasers mech or an AC mech? Well don't have time to find out as its so effective that I will die with the first shot anway." Thats overdramatic I know
So currently my feelings about CW, escacialy after reading some of the post is "I am not welcome here, I should maybe play another game."
Still the gamemode interestes me quite a lot so yah you will most likely find me there :-p
Last but least an idea I had about solo players and CW:
- All solo players are MERC's. They don't choose a house or clan to support.
To me its pretty obviouse, if you aren't part of a group you are a Merc, that it.
- They get their own "faction loyalties" System.
Its pretty much the same as the faction system, just for Mercs.
- Mercs will be rated
This means when a Mercs filled an open role in a team, after the fight, the team can give the Merc a rating. Was he a good player, Did he worked well with the team.....some points with a star rating from 1-5.
This could be tied in to the reward system. Haveing an overall very good reputation gives you a multiplier for the reward.
So it would be in the Mercs own interest to have a good rating by working well with a team.
- Mercs can't choose the planet or the unite they will be fighting with/for
Mercs don't get into the normal planet que. They will be put into a general que where units that need to fill 1-4 missing members with Mercs can look into and choose what Mercs they want to join.
They get an overview of availble Mercs and their ratings as well as choisen of Mechs.
The idea could still use some work but I hope you get the general idea.
What I think about this is that it could help groups and solo players in a way that groups can faster fill the one missing player they have and solo players would have a reason to start working on their skills to get better ratings to be more likely choosen and also find a match much faster then camping on a planet, hoping for a game to start.
So just my ideas and impressions...sure a bit of ranting on the sideline but no hard feelings.
And now back to CW...hopefully my que has finaly found a unit.

Even when rambo carries the team?
I don't like the term rambo. Rambo implies that they might actually do some damage . I'm tired of people running through 4 mechs in under 3 minutes. It doesn't seem like such a hard concept to play a little conservatively and think before you go running and screaming towards the whole enemy team. unfortunately it seems like a startling number of players think the game works something like this.

Rambo's don't care about a team or the team.
Rambo cares about rambo and that's all.
Selfish play in a teamwork focused section of this game leads to horrible matches for everyone and further leads to a desire for game changes to further promote and support rambo style play in a place where it has no place.

I would take longer wait times if I did not have to deal with one or two idiots that put themselves ahead of the whole team and ruin the match for everyone playing.
Solo players playing as part of the team is great, welcomed, and encouraged!
Solo players playing as if they were in solo queue still are not. They are harming themselves and every other player there that want's to be part of a team.

I was told there was going to be community warfare, and it doesn't exist. Not when the game was released, not last week, not today, has NEVER happened.
What PGI laughably CALLS Community Warfare is really just a solo que where players get to drop in 4 mechs. I was TOLD that I was going to get a COMMUNITY of players, working together as a faction / mercenary units to fight against. I call BULLSH!T !!!!!
All I see, match after match, after match, after match is solo players in trials who can't break 100 damage using 4 mechs.
This brings be to the Topic Title:
SOLO PLAYERS SHOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO QUE FOR COMMUNITY WARFARE.
To say "A Solo Player participated in Community Warfare" is a text book example of an oxymoronic statement.
FACT: Solo players have a que to fight against other solo players already.
FACT: There is no game mode for only 12 man groups. (What COMMUNITY warfare should have been).
As long as a solo player can que for a 'community warfare' drop, there is no community warfare. PGI farked over every community of players (every unit in the game) by allowing solo players the OPTION to que for community warfare. PGI farked over every solo player in game by giving them a chance to que without a unit (If can do it, you should be able to...not solo players fault for attacking/defending solo....it should have never been an option).
TL:DR - Community Warfare should not be an option for solo players, No unit, no que option. Give solo players are REASON to join a 'community' (aka: Faction and or Unit) and play as a member of a GROUP. Fix community warfare....solo players have their que, 2-11 players have their ques, 12 mans should have our community warfare.
Thank you for your time.
- Armando
I always took it as the Mechwarrior community as a whole. It's faction warfare, not groups/ guilds whatever. There should be a que just for 12 mans, but I think anyone should be able to try to swing a map in their factions direction. Just my 2 cents though

Neither of those are useful. Plus, the only difference between the two is success. If the loon wins, they are rambo. If they lose, they are Leeroy Jenkins. Either way, they jeopardize the entire team's chances at winning, and risk it all for personal gratification.
