Match score is calculated completely different since the patch. The good thing? There's a breakdown of all the parts that make up your match score on the player stats report.

AFAICT, the match maker still puts people of wildly different skill levels together.

Of course it does. It just needs time to settle out. I would guess that many have been "carried" for along time and now they will float or sink, but it won't/shouldn't happen over 3-6 matches. Give it a month. ;)

P.S. Oh and watch that FF ffs. It is a known quantity and shown now. LOL

Not a single close match yesterday. We had one 12-3 match, the rest was pure stomps one way or another. Going to take a while for this to shake out given that our current ratings are based on what pgi considers flawed premises.

No. Why don't people read patch notes?

They said that they've been running the PSR system in the background since January, so your rating is right now what it would be if you had been playing with PSR for over eight months.

Sort of. Since they have said people didn't tend to move up in Elo, pilots might not have been playing against the kind of competition their PSR would suggest they should be playing. It's still going to take some time for some pilot's PSR to find it's level.

This is only the first day with the new MM so maybe I'm lucky but I had more close matches today than in the last 3 months.

They said they would get data from January 2015, that doesn't indicate whether or not it was under the new scoring system of the old. Alex G clarified this to me though.

Yeah just reread it. It doesn't explicitly say what scoring formula was used since January. Don't be a ****.

As long as they saved the events they can back-calculate the score as many times as they like...

Got stomped 3 times in a row. Atleast 8 RCGB guys casually stomping... So clearly this match making isn't any better than the previous... Fixes please!

Oh please.

Yeah, larger groups have to play against someone. Be a good sport about it. Besides the system just started... It will level out after a while, but literally a 3 match sample size is NOTHING.

And same happened again with same group... 4 times in 6 matches. I am being a good sport and not playing, because I don't feel like getting gang-aped by people who like easy wins and don't bother to play CW for it.
Or do I need 11 friends so I can play quick "random matches" against other "random" people. This "feature" spoils the game in my opinion and I wonder why it isn't addressed.

In group drops, it seems to be at it worse.
Bunch of every day people going up against Lord, 228 and SJR? *mind you not all at once*

Seems perfectly balanced to me.

So after a couple of weeks of it being just like it was with Elo, do we have something else set up to blame for most people not wanting to put in the effort to get better? The problem is that people don't tend to continue to get better. They get out of cadet, improve a tiny bit... and stop. It's why CW is a massacre. You have a certain level of effort to improve after you hit 'familiar with fundementals' and it's like a brick wall for most.

Instead we selectively remember the times we were high score and our teams low score and 'feel' (incorrectly) that we are good but our teams hold us back. That's not the case, we just are not as good as we want to think so we blame mm or Elo or whatever.

No mm is going to fix that.

I don't understand how people are still getting stomped under the new PSR.

Do you guys play solo in a 12 man group? I mean, do you guys not watch each other's backs and attract fire when your teammate is getting shot at?

CW is broken. But yeah, I know losing in a video game must be a foreign concept to you, but it is a fact of life. I will tell you why it isn't addressed. First of all it was JUST implemented. It hasn't even had time to work yet. Now that PSR is being used to balance matches instead of ELO, everyone's performance in match is going to change. You need to give it time to work out. Last night I experienced lopsided wins, losses and close games. My overall experience was positive.

Not playing because every game isn't a cake walk is not being a good sport. Maybe instead of expecting the matchmaker to win matches for you, you could try to get better and improve your game? In all honesty, now that it uses average match performance to balance games, after a while of everyone playing equally skilled opponents, there will be no excuse. Now, I don't think the system has really set in yet, so you need keep calm and try to play your best.

Clearly new system is exposing a lot of players who may have been riding Elo coat tails and now find themselves struggling.

Stomps still exists, but I feel the overall quality of matches has improved; there were certain stomps that still felt satisfying despite being on the losing end, rather than feeling like a fixed match.

I.e. There are "good stomps" and "bad stomps" (if you catch my drift), and with the new MM, there's more of the former.

I think the MM is better. but the ratings are bad.

From what I can see, since I haven't really done much hardcore since january and thus probably not T1, I think it is generally grouping the underhive together so I guess that is working as intended... but I am in there with them. Like seeing Ac2s and med laser builds and lurmer CPLT wipe out half a team because they dont see a UAV...

Um... not good. I'm doing much worse now that I was before. And mechs that I was (no kidding) averaging 400-600 a match are hard pressed to push 350 dmg now. No not missile boats either :)

Guess time to suck up and not rely on suckness of my old ELO bracket.
