What option do you like the best when displaying PSR Tiers?

  1. Full disclosure - All players must display their Tier. (1516 votes [27.78%])

    Percentage of vote: 27.78%

  2. Opt-in - Players can choose to publicly display their Tier. (3350 votes [61.38%])

    Percentage of vote: 61.38%

  3. Gun Shy - I don't feel my Tier should be displayed publicly, only visible to me. (592 votes [10.85%])

Negaman,

You brought up a great point here!

I would love to see a "mission contract system" implemented over what we currently have. The system could be Tier-locked and would insure that the Tiers do not intermingle and make for an enjoyable game for everyone at all levels.

We probably don't have sufficient population for that but it would be nice. ;)

I would be in full support of Always on.

For the people who cry "oh I do not want people to see how ~skilled I am"

WoT has fully public stats, I love it. I've even gotten some pretty rock solid advise from others players who saw me play, saw my stats, and told me how to improve.

And I've played in a lot of games where it was used to do nothing more than hammer noobs and grow <very small> epeens.

"Full disclosure" and I'm gone. Between our existing idiots, Steam coming in and this, the pool will be horrendously toxic. I have better places to spend my money than that.

I've tried about 2-3 outfits out there, and it turns out I prefer pugging...especially since VOIP is working.

So...as a for instance, say House Davion (or pick a House or Clan of your choosing) has a preponderance of loyal Tier 1-2 units in it. Don't you think that may affect which planet you want to attack/defend if you know who is in the neighborhood/which unit is siding with which faction?

I'm surprised how many people believe that this ranking will be an accurate reflection of actual player skill.

As an example, I feel like I get pretty high match scores on average compared to how I would rate my own skill -- which is at a level still higher than many observers may rate my play skill... Because...it's subjective?

There are also times when I was the reason my team won a conquest match, but I didn't get a very high match score. Because I was in a light mech working on caps the most, and got us 750, which doesn't grant much in match score. Would it be more "skillful" to win the match or to get kills and lose the match?

I voted for private points simply because I don't believe the system will accurately reflect what I would define as true "skill" in the game but will be erroneously viewed as such -- presumably by those rated as having higher skill -- as evidenced by many of the posts here. I do believe, however, that such a system is good enough (and perhaps the best possible option) for matchmaking.

After further consideration, the only option I don't like is "Opt-in".

I think my preference is "Visible only in pre-game Lobby"

Although even that choice is moot, since every thing I have read indicates that the new PSR system is a joke as it only works if you play a single mech (or small segment of mechs), but only assuming that Quirks changes for that mech do not influence you average match score. This system may actually be worse than Elo, Elo at least evaluated weight class.

Opt-in. I realize, that some players need to show their ingame achievements, but devs shouldn't make mistakes, other developers made. Forums - isn't the right place to do it, cuz some players starting to focus more on other players' performance in game, rather then on topics, being discussed. We should keep "You don't have tier 1 - you're not entitled to post on forums and your arguments are automatically invalid" away from MWO.

Don't pretend there won't be some of that out there.

I voted "opt-in" because I'm all for choice...but I can see how this may be abused.


There is already plenty of elitism in the top units. There are usually multiple requirements, both said and unsaid. Most comp units want to see your KDR and WLR. They usually induct you as a mere associate, observe your fighting and participation rates, and only after a lengthy affair, accept you as a full member. Many in the top units are never promoted to full member status.

Instead of relying on KDR, which most "support" players claim is unfair, the new PSR can show to a better extent how good or bad a player is.

Either way, in an elite unit, if you're bad, you'll stay as associate forever.

Not only should it be full disclosure....but full and detaileD dislosure. This will encourage varied and improved play ...and give a competitive reasn to plaY. WhO the hell cares aBout participation games? Nobody.

I would like full disclosure on forums, but I'd rather it wasn't displayed in-game.

Reason I want it in forums:
  • Quickly determine whether the strategy or build advice is worthwhile to read, or can be skipped over (I'll pay more attention to top-ranked players)
  • 'new player experience suggestions' would hold more weight from low-skilled players (the higher skilled players have figured things out and probably don't need to be commenting at this point on what 'new players' think - the experienced players bring a lot of baggage with their opinions, depending on their stance with various development stages in this game).
Reason I don't want it in-game
  • I suspect that if you saw players' scores before the match started, your opponents would quickly make a 'priority list' and call out targets one by one in descending order of skill. This would result in a terrible experience for our higher-skilled players, and I'd rather they didn't quit the game. We need them to carry the rest of us noobs.
I realize some people are hesitant to expose their ratings to others, either because of embarrassment or they think they'll be ridiculed. At times our community can be a bit toxic, so I can certainly understand those concerns. In order to give them a little bit of help, can we keep scores hidden until a player completes a certain amount of games? Maybe have them shown after they complete their intro games sequence.

I chose opt in, although, with the internet what is is, i chose not displayed publicly. If we want to brag/ask/etc we can screenshot, otherwise it shouldn't matter, but displaying it at all, makes it public.

I think public display is a good thing, certainly, it can lead to stigma. But it can also lead to self affirmation, goals for players, a ladder to measure. Self realization, changes to perception and tactics about what works for you and what doesn't.

Imo, the benefits outweigh the deficiencies, no matter the form.

Just don't force it to be displayed if a person chooses not to.

if their invites to their unit get annoying you can ignore/report them :ph34r:

Think I remember seeing you in a match.
Doesn't matter. Dropped a dozen or so times and was having a great time. (Including a nice scenic tour on Forest Colony while we hunted for a light mech with an ECM.... that map is very nice)

While it is evident that there is a lot of fear from displaying it, this fear is only stemming from the potential toxic comments that may be directed at you if you happen to have a bad game.
Potentially, may be,if, happen to...... fear.
I'm not interested in seeing it here in the forums, there is no reason or place for it on these pages. and I'd rather not have to refer back to the forums for information I should be able to get in game.

Show it in game.
The benefits will be:
  • Other players will be able to recognise those that are more experienced and be able to approach them for advice.
  • More experienced players will be able to recognise those that are new or struggling and provide assistance in game.
  • Units will be able to organise their ranks so their groups have more stable drops.
  • Units will also be able to identify potential leaders in their ranks who can the be mixed into groups to build up the skills in the lower tiers. (Note that a skilled player may not necessarily be a good leader but this provides an indicator)
  • It gives players a measure to show that they can improve and will be recognised if they do.
  • A side effect will be on the competitive tournament scene were it will then be possible to tier the competitions so that more players of an equal level can compete against each other as teams and that whole side of things can expand.

    Like going to a football match where you watch 4th grade, then 3rds, 2nds and then the big 1st grade event.
  • On that note it will also provide a usable visual mechanic for Solaris.
Players earn a name for themselves in game with their behaviour and attitude.

I could name half a dozen or so players I meet in the drops who I know are really skilled pilots and know them as either a terrific boon to my team, or a real danger if they are on the enemy side.
I could also name half a dozen or so players that have the social grace, wit, charm and attitude of an alpaca in heat and know them more for that, than their skill.
There are also players out there who are great entertainment value and fun to drop with.
Generally though, I find that the players in the matches are benevolent.

So therefore I have changed my vote and would prefer to see the tier In Game Only as some sort of insignia next to our names relevant to our faction.
