No show = T6

Lol I'm kidding but I'm glad that there is a chance for a public ranking system. Hopefully it can expand for self-constructed criticism. Maybe also have an option that it can only be seen by unit members. This would be good for those who don't want it shown public ally but want to find ways to improve with their team mates.

Personally, I can't see why anyone would not want to know their own tier. How can you know whether you should be improving?

As to whether to show it, that should be each persons choice.

If you cant gauge your opponents relative skill compared to you, then there is no purpose in being weighted by skill against another player. Professional sports don't pit the minor leagues against each other blind, everyone knows what they are getting into, if that were even a thing...

Visible to everyone, or dont use a metric to weight one player against another.

Finally found this poll after looking all over for it from reading the patch notes. It's not the most obvious place I would think for it to be.
The one thing I am curious about here is there is kind of a missing option unless I am mistaken. The Elo rating was hidden from everyone. Now we have tiers, which we still cannot see. The patch notes suggested that there would be an option for us to see our tiers versus other people seeing them. I voted for opt in because I think that tier display should be a choice. Obviously the hotshots are gonna do that. But I do want to see what tier I am on and when I get demoted/promoted *somewhere*.

I think that making it optional is likely to make it not optional. I also think that making the pilot tier public is an invitation to a negative experience for new players. While I'd love to know where I am and where the folks laying the beating on me are (and I'm not concerned if others know how poorly I'm ranked), it seems the there are to may obstacles' to making it public that are essentially human nature. If any of us are dead set on the tier1 brag, there's always the screenie post to the forums. My vote was #3.

I like the idea of toggling whether your tier level will be public, but I am worried that Faction/Clans may become elitist. That is, "To join this faction you must display tier 4 or greater." Some may not choose to go this route, but it is possible that this may make the ranking structure more political, rather than less, introducing more problems as the reasons for good statistics become sharper.

Tiers should be like sports leagues. Insular to themselves.

Tier 1: NFL
Tier 2: Arena League (or CFL)
Tier 3: NCAA (college football)
Tier 4: High School
Tier 5: Pop Warner

There should be no cross over, but a player can build up to one or fall out of one if it's too high.

opt-in is my choice those who wish to take pride in what they have or have not achieved should be allowed to those who want privacy should have it

hope this will not degrade in to stupid elitist crap because of the tiers ppl being ******* have gotten me to leave more than one game and I really love big stompy robots that blow crap up

I can hardly see any good in this.

I can prove that ideia will drive this game to ruin very quickly.

I'll give one real example of an existing game with that: World of tanks online.

Theres a mod you install in the game wich show players K/D and their Win rattings.

The result of this is people driving their tanks to suicide in the very beginning of the game because they ''realize'' the team have too low skills to even waste time.

Thats exactly what will happens here when people see the team tier and skills.

Actually this already happens when you are in CW and a premade enemy team is against you and in your side is all pugs ( Including people with trial mechs ).

Then, what people do? They disconnect and go do other stuff instead of stay and try.

4 less mechs to the team and sometimes its 8, even more.

I once fought in one team without 3 players since the beginning against a premade.

So, the best answer to this idea is NO! Or atleast Optional.

Yuri, that's a good reason for locked tiers right there. Then you don't have that happening.

Yes? So?

If I were to start a team, what's the problem with my specifying what Tier the members need to be?

I want to start a team that will run ragged over everyone else in game. Gotta be T5
I want to start a team that mentors new players, the majority must be T1 with a good selection of T4/T5 mentors to guide them, and you're out when you hit T3, on to bigger and better things.

E-peen whaaaa. We've already got hundreds of people bragging about how damn good they are. Now they can put it up or shut up.

T1: those of us who've been around know to take it easy when you make some dumb mistake; you're still learning the mechanics or you're just not getting it.

Quit being a bunch of mingers. Put it out there and let it ride.

I understand your point - public ranking can always invite chest-thumping. In my opinion, however, people who are jerks to new players or supposed scrub tier players are ALREADY jerks, and their behavior is considered inappropriate by most, whether they're correct about skill level or not.

In other words, if you're pissing all over my posts because you think you're a better player than me, you'll do that with proof or without. abuse is abuse, and I don't have to take it. If it was offensive enough, I'd report it, and if not, it's all just talk. We're all supposed to be civil. Same with dropping out of a game because you don't trust your team: It's crappy whether you're right or not.

The people I'm more interested in shutting up are the ones who moan about their teammates all the time, convinced that it's the elo or the matchmaker or whatever, without actually knowing their own abilities. It's an inherent bias, and some of us are better as suppressing it than others. Maybe this gives people a chance at really understanding where their strengths lie, and where to improve. Rank/Tier/Seed etc. can motivate us to do better, too. the difference is usually one of attitude.

Plenty of competitive titles out there with detailed rank info. It can breed healthy competition and self improvement. Yes, it's a matter of pride, too - but how can we even begin to talk about matchmaking troubles when we don't even know where we are in the algorithm?

Civility, good sportsmanship, fair play - call it whatever you want, it's a choice we all make every game or post. If team sports tournaments and chess championships and e-sports and poker can all see their stats down to the exact minute without using it as a weapon, we can too. And the sort of person who DOES mock those who don't rank as high? Name one athlete who isn't vilified by that sort of behavior given enough time. We can police our own, too.

Please reset stats after you changed Elo system. I think you should reset stats every 3 months so people can get in better tier if they significantly improve their skill. After that nobody will have problem about showing their skill raiting because they always will have chance to improve it. Like in Starcraft 2 for example.

I'm only interested in my own Tier/PSR, mainly to use as a reference to gauge whether I am improving/remaing the same or simply rubbish and have to accept it. Certainly not interested in brandishing my own or anyone elses e-peen in broad daylight.

I can see where it would be enticing to see what Tiers made up a solo drop but in group queue I could see it turning into a super secret squirrel club, where only certain tiers are allowed into certain groups..... nope, not my idea of fun or fair.
