I think the only debate may be whether they should show in game at the beginning of a match. It would be helpful to at least some extent to know who on your team needs help and who on the other team should be eliminated first. It may also help establish credibility for those pugs who want to lead a team on coms if they are Tier 1 or 2.

I think this is a moot point. The general description I read a bit ago said the matchmaker would only put people from the same tier into PUG matches. There are obviously levels within each tier, but these would not be known, even to yourself. In other words, if you know your own tier, you know that's who you will be playing against. Correct me, someone, if I misread that.

Edit: This was the line from the patch notes to which I was referring:

Alexander Garden Patch Notes - 1.4.3.0 - 18-AUG-2015 said:

A Tier 1 player will never play against a Tier 4 or Tier 5 player.

That doesn't explicitly say it's not possible for a Tier 1 player to be pushed into a Tier 2 or 3 match, so perhaps my point is misguided...

Full disclosure is the only option that makes sense if tier is included at all. I mean. I'm not particularly for or against it, but if we're getting player tiers, they should be shown. With opting in/out, it's solely there to cover people's tier if they know it's bad (or fancy themselves mysterious?) There's nothing else to hide. If your argument is you don't care what your tier is then why would you care if you're forced to show it or not? It will only lead to a bunch of argument and personal attack. "Oh, he shows his tier to show off" or "Oh, he's obviously hiding how bad he is." etc. etc. If it was just showed no matter what, it would become much less of a reputation/integrity/honesty thing. People would eventually accept it, look at it for the information it conveys. Maybe some will take some slight pride in their tier and that's all it would be. Not to mention, it would give a good heads up on how I should expect my teammates to play. I tell you, sometimes I feel like MWO is a big experiment on group mentality.

Full disclosure.

If you have ever played any online game with public rank groups, you KNOW that we are creating a community with different values with this. The mwo crowd is too small for such a thing.

Ever looked into Counterstrike: GO? "Shut up silver ***".

Yea exactly. Now you are giving the people that ruin this game for the large part of the players, the silent majority, a tool to ruin it even more.

"I want this balanced this way, I am Tier 1, listen to what I say about the game."

This will be fun.

Please note:
- We will not be disclosing the match score > psr calculations.

Why? Are you ashamed of the method being used? Is it too weak to standup to scrutiny? You think PGI has the nuts when it comes to intelligence?

You have a lot of intelligent users. Granted, out of a 1,000 comments on it 995 might be BS, but the other 5 could make it much better.

I voted full disclosure but would prefer a fourth option with no tier rating to be shown at all. It is only useful to group players for matchmaking purposes. My main concern is it could encourage stacked/elite units clustering and a side of discrimination to boot.

Why not give us a relative indication of change of our PSR instead? At least then we can tell if we are improving or not.

Compare the PSR to what it was a week/fortnight/month ago. A minimum number of matches played could also be part of the requirement to reduce what a player could learn about the PSR system itself by only playing a match a week for instance.

Here is a proposal as to what the player could see on their Home tab:
Symbol / TextColourCondition
▲ Increased Green >= 0.05% change from previous week
▬ Steady Blue < 0.05% change either way from previous week
X Low Activity Yellow < 5 matches played
▼ Decreased Red <= 0.05% change from previous week

The condition values would of course be tailored according to what is statistically significant for your needs.

they are afraid of people abusing their ******** game score affecting elo system

if people want, with the visible tier introduction, people will abuse it anyway, it's not hard to guess

Let every warrior choose by himself!

Iam pretty good, but i absolutely dont want to show this to everyone. 'Secrecy is, as always, our most potent weapon.'

Let me give an example:
One battle with X7 in my team, i really rocked this and carried the whole team. X7 was second behind me in experience gained.

Next battle, X7 in the enemy team. Guess what happened ;)
Caustic valley, three lights emerge, pop UAVs. And although more than halve of our team where open, every single enemy lrm was fired at me behind the hill, untill i was down. It was pure headhunting, i felt like Ulrik on Wotan
And yes, we won this, because they need to long and focus to much on me (X7 dont get my kill :P).
And no, it was absolutely no fun for me, and i dont want this happen every second game.

Its entirely ok for me, if ppl think iam noob, because i hide my tier score. Its their fault :D

Thx for reading.

Opt in seems mostly pointless, since no one will opt in unless they are T1 or T2 i guess. Voted for full disclosure, but imo 2nd best option is to keep it private.

We will not be disclosing your actual PSR value.

This severely disappoints me. I want to see my progress in the game, I want to see if I improve or get worse if changing my playstyle. This is impossible if they only show tiers and not the actual PSR. Because the tier will not be subject to much change when you slightly adjust your play. It will probably stay the same number most of the time. Therefore I think only displaying tier is almost pointless.

I voted opt in,, but I'm looking forward to all the "I'm obviously tier1" guys hearts breaking and tears flowing when they find out that they're only tier 3 or 4 :D

If the tier system works then you shouldn't get matches too far out of your skill level, it's got to be a good thing.

I expect to be in the lower tiers and I couldn't give a toss about it. There are things in life I truly care about,, my performance in a videogame isn't one of them. I play to unwind, not to get wound up

What do you mean with this? Tanking their score to get easier opponents? I dont get it.

Why not just enjoy playing the game at whatever tier you may be in, rather than worrying about what tier you or your "neighbors" may be in? What does it help, or even matter (aside from e-peen waving)?

Just leave it as a matchmaking tool and be done with it.

I want to see my progress in the game, I want to see if I improve or get worse if changing my playstyle. Granted that is rather impossible with just tiers, I woulfd want to see exact PSR. I dont give the slightest fk about epeen or comparing my score to others. I want it for myself.

Voted for private

Because if in a match you can see enemy player tiers you could focus the high tier player first to gain advantage(This wouldnt be a problem in evenly matched teams or it could be fixed by not showing targeted enemy names).

Some players could use it to grief high tier players. Maybe im just being paranoid because certain tank game(xvm arty snipe).

that too but i mostly meant that people will inflate their score on the team's cost to get a better psr

if they disclosed the detailed psr it would be a huge stress btw... tiers only may be not enough to really steer people to fight for the rating

What does inflating the score mean? Trying to do as much dmg as possible while trying to minimize dmg to yourself? That is what people already try to do right now. And that is what they will do in the future. Because that is how you get max CB. Because getting max CB is the only goal in the game since we are not allowed to know Elo scores.
