MWO is a great game, and it is getting better. I want the forums to be a well-populated place where players and devs are all welcomed.

They are more than welcome to come back.

They DO need to be aware that the playerbase is watching, and that we WILL call them on any BS.

Dev's need to understand they live in the age of technology and instant feedback, and they need to beable to handle that instant feedback in a meaningful way. They need to know that they cannot easily pull the wool over the eyes of the consumers anymore when there are enough whistleblowers out there that can rally people to action [which is usually rallying people to NOT spend money when it comes to MWO]

The old days of being able to write off the dissenters is long gone, Sure you can go to Twitter, or Reddit and hugbox it out... but that's not really going to improve your game at all, and it is going to upset a good bit of your userbase. And when you spurn your whales, and ignore the ones that pump lots of money into the game, eventually, they'll walk away, and take that money with them.

While we don't exactly have any rights to what changes as users... we do have the power to simply walk away with our money. We consumers are slowly becoming the investor's of the new age when things are crowdfunded... and if you spurn those spending the money, you eventually loose out on that money. And PGI can't afford to loose that influx of cash.

It was never really intended to be "24 v 24". It's just the same shot of us running down the same hill, inverted a couple times for effect. I can see how it could rather easily be mistaken for some kind of secret ninja 24v24 announcement (since that sort of thing seems to happen a lot in trailers these days), but that wasn't what we were originally going for. Newbie mistake.

It is the Official Launch Trailer. My buddy was hired by PGI to produce several videos. I thought I was clear about that.

There is a difference between "PGI funded" and "PGI produced" videos, however. This one was PGI funded. The actors, the director, the cameraman, the editor, and the creative juices were produced by my unit.

Could they have asked us to remove the huge mech wall part? Probably. I wasn't the guy who interacted directly with PGI staff over the production, so I don't know how much was or wasn't said about it. I don't think they realized anyone would make a big deal out of it. Neither did we. It looked cool, so it went in.

Celestial, our videographer, also produced the Clan Invasion trailer (though this one was done with PGI staff because it involved unreleased Mechs), both CW Beta trailers, and a dozen other Hero mech and Map trailers.

My point was that at absolutely no point in time did anyone from PGI wake up and say "Hey wouldn't it be cool if we put 24 Mechs all attacking the same target in our launch trailer?"

I'll gladly take the blame for that particular gaffe. It was an artistic decision on our end. It seems rather dishonest to use it as ammo against Russ/Bryan/whoever because they didn't anticipate it bothering people.

Then they shouldnt have it up as their official trailer when it shows things that are not in the game, like they are in the game. Its kind of why they have those little disclaimers under things that are not actual size that SAY THAT

Sorry? Our bad? My bad?

Not sure what else to say at this point. It's not like they're going to take it down years after the fact and demand their money back / production of a new one.

I mean they could, but that would really suck =/

To be honest... I write and bahave here just as I do in real life..

I state my case, make my point, and tell you what's what..

I may be a little harsh sometimes, but hey..

That's tough love baby... makes you stronger.

These forums can be quite negative, but that's also like that in life.. I think we've all got something that we want the Dev's to hear and do..

It would be nice if they listened more often than not.. but hey.. I guess they have their reasons..

the fact that PGI placed it on their youtube channel then they approved of whatever you guys did...

honestly, in the grand scheme of things this is one of the more 'tamer' things that PGI did so i don't really feel the need to get worked up over it.

Unfortunately there is a whole psychology behind this, and it's not about the forums but just bad behavior on the internet in general.

It can make good people turn bad, well on the internet at least, those same people, most of us, maintain civility to people in RL and are upstanding citizens.

The point of my reply is, nothing is going to change it, as long as there communication that isn't face to face or even real time, things will always get ugly quick.

Well, I've been here a while now, and I have to say that the MWO forums are like most other game forums I've been on, i.e. too often filled with negativity and hostility.

I'm certainly no shining beacon of light when it comes to being a good forumite, but I try to be civil as much as I can, however some people seem to go out of their way to tell people how stupid they are for having a different opinion on something.
Many discussions going on here would never take place face to face, because you just don't behave like that in real life.
If people had a bit more consideration that on the other side is another human just trying to enjoy a game and that for the most part would like to be able to take part in civil and constructive discussions about that game, this would be a much better place.

Recently I started to think about what will become of this place once the steam-release has been realised. What kind of attitude do we want to convey to new players coming here?
If the kind of behaviour with flaming and trolling and just being unkind for no reason is allowed to go on, that's what we'll get, but worse, once the new influx of players happens.
New players will take their attitude from other games such as CS, BF and so on to this game, and believe me, that would not be good.

I want these forums to become a better place, one where people can have mature and proper discussions about MWO without them getting derailed by off-topic stuff, ridicule, flaming or trolling,
If we can manage this together by setting good examples for each other we can make these forums a better place. And when the new players come they will soon get into the atmosphere as well, and their possibly bad attitude from other games will not transfer to these forums.

If these forums do change for the better, maybe we can even get some developer presence here, who knows?

I'm going to work on being a friendlier forumite.
Will you? :)

Edit: It's not just the attitude towards fellow gamers, but the attitude towards PGI and towards specific developers is absolutely disgusting and completely undeserved.

dude this forum is a pillow fight, you probably have not been much around in the internet.

It is a competitive game. No one has an obligation to like you or whatever you say. If people don't like it they will tell you so. Like I don't like moralizing a while forum of adults and telling them they they aren't friendly enough. It isn't a support group after all.

If it takes that little to piss you off, then you are in the wrong game friend.

I was in that trailer too, its one of the coolest videos celestial made, and he's damned good at making them. We decided to march the 24 mechs in one direction because it looked good. We had, and continue to have, no interest, in limiting the coolness of the trailer just to make you, a single person, happy, because "if the trailer isn't lawyer approved 100% accurate politically correct zero chance of offense then so help me god". What are you gonna do? Are you going to boycott the game because the trailer was TOO COOL? Try it, sounds like you could use the break. I took a break for a few months, did good things for my sanity. I was drinking the haterade hard around the time transfail was a thing. Took a break til cw hit and when it did I had more fun in MWO then I have had in the past two years.

Its not a sin, its not a thing pgi did that is bad. They knew they couldn't produce a good video on their own, so they got a fan to do it for them. And he did a damned good job.

I don't know if you guys noticed, but thats community content creation. Something that this game now seriously lacks, has always seriously lacked. Celestial is a shining example of what we should all be trying to do. Make the game better with our own skills, and it was PGI's sin that most of us were, and are, unable to do that, yet when they do let us do it, the few times we have ever had the chance, people like buddah come in guns blazing screaming nonsense because it was too cool? because its false advertising?

This is like getting pissed off at your spouse because they didnt use a coaster, and then flying into a rage.

It seems pathetic and trivial...until you realize the spouse has also blown the college fund on gambling, is cheating on you, wrecked the car, and has ****.

Context is super important. The reason tiny things send us into ragevomitspirals...is because of how we've been treated and the games progression over the years.

So when you see things like the last Roadmap where its like "Were gonna do stuff in addition to ALL THE COOL STUFF WE DID THIS YEAR!" instead of just reading past it...its this rage inducing moment because the list of crap theve done this year is like the same list of **** 4 people making that game The Forest accomplished in two weeks.

Im in my 40s.

Ive been playing games 30 years.

Im not blind. Im not stupid. Im just a bittervet. I didnt become a bittervet to save money on my car insurance, I was driven to it by ridiculous decision making.

I understand the decision making...because its a corporate entity in way over its head (hunting games bro) and it has no choice but to survive for as long as possible, but it doesnt make me any less upset.

Everyday PGI drags this out, is another day until someone else picks up the license in 5 years and maybe I get to play a decent first person battletech game before I keel over from heart disease.

And for some of us...game development is our football.

We know the players. We know the coaches. We know the fields. We know the owners. Thats our ****. Our hobby. We get immersed in the minutiae of development because its our bag. So of course we monday morning quarterback.

It is also just a Video Game ffs. A Bittervet? WTF is that? You make that up all by yourself? Anyone who bought in and disapproved should have cut their loses. Most decided being bitter and condescending to anyone and anything that went against their bitterness was to be crushed under a pile of vitriol.

The Internet is a very sad example of what the Human Race truly is, as a whole, sans those who don't actually have access.

It is just a Video game remember.... ;)
