Generally speaking this forum is quite serene by comparison to most. I think the more mature audience helps. The only thread that has ever made me truly rage is this one. http://mwomercs.com/...munity-warfare/ . Actually the CW subforum as a whole is pretty bad most of the time.

OP I feel like you are a tad idealist. A lot of us have invested years and thousands of dollars into this franchise as a whole.

My nerd cred is strong for this franchise. All the books, most of the TRO's and Manuals, most of Battletechnology, all the games etc etc. And yet MWO has vexed me greatly at times.

I get its a free to play game. But I paid $100 up front for legendary founder status. I got some in game stuff. Great. I'm happy.

But the game itself has had/has issues. Lurmaggedon. Poptarting. Now ECM. Then things like the pricing on Clan Wave 1 pissed me off greatly to the point I left for a long time (IGP I know technically to blame). I've left and come back to this game at least 4 times.

I'm STILL unhappy with the pricing model for this game. I know it needs to be higher with a smaller player base and yeah sure its still better than Star Citizen, but I dumped hundreds of dollars in games like League of Legends and I feel like the value is there. $20 dollars for 3 IS mechs that I need to then spend $6 million ish c-bills just to make worth while (not even counting weapons). And its even worse for Clan mechs outside of the IIC series despite due to the balancing act its not like the mechs themselves are vastly superior either! But I can't help but feel they would catch far more fish if the price was lower and then reap the money in that way instead.

And don't even get me started on the grind. Even with "premium time" which I'll happily pay to keep the game developing and improving, the grind is still quite bad.

But I keep coming back. Call it battered wife, call it the only option on the market. Realistically its because there absolutely still is a lot of fun to be had in this game. At its core, there is a lot of fun. And I do love it. But that doesn't mean I can't be unhappy about things.

Its human nature to complain when they are unhappy with something. Its far less common when someone is happy about something that they feel the need to tell the world about it on a forum.

I see a lot of people talking about star citizen development times, especially buddah. This will shed some light on the reality of the situation, though its slightly off topic.

Posted Image

Note, the only reason Star citizen feels like its been in development for a long time is that it was being publicized long before development even began, its part of their funding model. They were crowd funding it, meaning they relied on a playerbase, and the vast majority of that playerbase still has an enormous amount of faith in chris roberts (a man who we can all agree has game dev street cred) to deliver what he's promised so far. They've done a remarkable job with controlling their scope tbh, considering the circumstances. Most firms would blow their game out to triple the size of Star citizen if they were getting the funding SC has, then again, as far as SC goes, its funding isn't actually enormous. Plus Minus 100 Million is unprecedented for a crowd funding campaign, but as far as game development goes its quite modest, Grand Theft Auto V costed 250 million dollars to make. Nevertheless, I dont expect anything close to a finished product out of that game until late 2016 at the earliest, though if it drags long into 2017 then they might start getting real pushback. 2017 will be the 5 year mark, thats about how long it takes to make a game of that scale and I don't doubt they can do it.

And on topic, I have drank the haterade just as much, if not more, than the next guy, but count your blessings. I dont need to be a white knight (and im not) to know that PGI looks like a game development dreamland compared to places like konami for example, which was recently outed for having a corporate culture reminiscent that makes the NSA look like a hands-off organization that actually respects your privacy rights.

Unless you have seen it already, Konami is probably nothing like Amazon.

dude this forum is a pillow fight, you probably have not been much around in the internet.

Haha, think what you will.
This place will get real ugly after the steam release if the trolling and flaming is still going to be allowed.

I get moderator whacked for flaming and trolling even when im not. And when I do it on purpose.

Theyre actually pretty good about that, though it usually takes a few days. (im always like, wtf did I say drunk three days ago again?).

Though thats also an indication of where were headed (again). The last time I was a hairs breath away from perma banned, was right before the 'come to Jesus' moment last year, the island apology, the mass unbannings, and reconquesta of Reddit.

Sometimes you dont need a weatherman to see which way the wind blows.

And Steam has its own forums...so theres that.

Wow. You really feel old when someone doesn't know what a bittervet is.

:(

So this "bittervet" thing has been around a long time has it. Lots of game vets been "bitter" a long time?

Apologies, I thought it was just another one of those "childish" made up names of things. We see a lot of that sort of thing on these Forums.

Thus we would "define" a "bittervet" as someone who takes Online Video Game way way to seriously. So much so, that that "bitterness" actually helps pollutes and spoil the Forums that they participate in? That about right then?

It is a competitive game. No one has an obligation to like you or whatever you say. If people don't like it they will tell you so. Like I don't like moralizing a while forum of adults and telling them they they aren't friendly enough. It isn't a support group after all.

Argh! Right in the pump! :P

Did I ever say anything about liking me? People can hate all the want, I just would like this place to be better, as in more constructive and positive.
If people with your attitude get their way this place will turn to hell when lots of new players used to the jargon of other FPS games comes here.
I really don't understand why so many think it's OK to behave like a scum-bag just because "rofl it's the intranetz!".

Neither is a copious intake of whiskey, but that doesnt stop me, or anyone else. I am pretty convinced the two are some how related.

Just remember you get to BE a bittervet, by playing an obnoxious amount of the game, so as to nit pick its finer points from a hovering cloud of judgement and authority. Whether or not people listen to you *shrug* up to the gods sir.

Strange.
The amount of time i've put into this game is obscene. I'm not a bittervet and nor am i a white/black Knight.
Its ok to remember past past wrongs but what you guys do just goes beyond the norm.

Funny, people say it's okay to remember past wrongs, but then when anyone actually points out those past wrongs, it's all of a sudden "bittervets", "black knights", and "beyond the norm".

Even when it's a perfectly valid explanation as to why some people react ... a bit on the non-cheerleading side to new "promises" from PGI.
