From what I understand it won't be just quirks which will change. I'm just afraid to get something which will turn out to be garbaage. Sort of like my short lived experiment with Quickdraws a long time ago.

I like the look of the Black Knight but.. another laserboat with no JJs is pretty boring.
Highlander IIC interests me but I'll wait for it for cBills (plus it is months away).

The opposite happened to me. The free Thunderbolt made me feel like I might as well get two more so I could Master them. Next thing I knew...

Same here. Nothing worth buying for a long time since I only roll with IS 'mechs. I got 225 million cbills lying around...

I wouldn't buy anything until then, you've saved up enough to get the most requirkening-fun out of the upcoming changes, keep it that way.
There are over 200 mech variants in the game and chances are some of them are bound to end up slightly broken (*COUGH*OVERQUIRKED*COUGH*).
40m is perfect for a brand new set of three of any mechs except for Clam Assaults.

I would tend to follow that same vain, however.... I can see certain mechs being truly screwed over from hitbox changes. Of course, I choose to believe that hitbox changes will be mostly positive. But, I am going to pretend I am from Missouri... Show me. Probably due to past history.

Innate mech features include hardpoints (number, location, mounting height), hitboxes, engine cap, total tonnage, and Endo/FF (if Omnimech). If a mech is well-designed such that it is effective without any external help, then it's a safe bet for you to buy it. Such effective designs are almost "nerf-proof" unless Paul seriously unleashes his full fury...
...But if a mech is only viable when external help like quirks are applied, then you should be careful of pendulum swing balancing.

^This.
This is why I run stuff like the BNC-3S...it's all about hardpoints, their locations, and overall mech performance for me. Durability is another one. I loved my CTF-3D even before they gave it quirks, and built it the same way before them as I do now.
