To be fair though, Awesomes have a good deal more damage potential, Zeus can tank like a beast, but you really don't want to take on heavy hitter assaults, where with an Awesome that is generally who I go after

(full disclosure, I have EVERY AWS chassis, they were one of my favorite pre-3055 mechs)

Eh... the only reason Awesome's have more damage potential is because of Quirks. The Zeus can mount comparable weapons (lots of energy and some missile) and can even mount ballistics. The only thing it can't do is crazy builds with 4 huge LRM's or an insane number of energy weapons... which are completely impractical builds without the quirks that allow the Awesome to use them.

And that's the problem: we have mechs being defined by Quirks, and Quirks change, meaning mechs change, so one never really knows what one is buying in the long run. Combine that with the horrible grind / economy and the frustration of needing to master 3 mechs of a chassis, even if you hate 1 or 2 of them, and there's just no reason to buy anything until this latest "re-Quirkening" mess is past.

If you buy mechs based on their power level you will always be disappointed eventually.

Buy what you want to play, what fits your playstyle, or what lets you try a new one. Plus, playing "bad" mechs will probably make you a better player in the long run.

True, to a point - heck, I play Awesomes and played Hunchbacks before they got super-buffs to their weapon pod - but time to kill is so short in this game that playing a sub-optimal chassis has gone from "hard mode" to "die pointlessly while having little to no fun."

TTK needs to be improved, and the game needs to stop focusing on Quirks and - ideally - instant, perfect convergence pin-point damage. But that last point will never happen, which means I doubt any of the other problems can really be fixed.

I doubt PGI is even capable, along the lines of the LBX fix they promised and never delivered, whoever coded it isn't there any longer, and the current team can't handle the code.

Which is a poor excuse, because they could always rebuild the code governing projectile weapons (or even just weapons) from the ground up to contain new ammo-switching capability.

Not true. A Wubshee, Whale, Timbergod, Hellbringer, Doomcrow, and King crab will always be powerful. Theres literally no way to nerf them into the ground.

I have 40+ million right now, and I'm saving it to kit out my Resistance 2 and Origins mechs. After that? Who knows? Maybe I'll come down with a case of stupid and try Hunchbacks again (me and the Hunchie are not friends).

Add the Stalker, the Battlemaster and the Jagermech. High mounts will always survive quirk changes.

Well, the Shadow Hawk actually hasn't received any direct nerfs, it simply has been replaced by power creep like the SCR and other powerful gundams.

Choosing whether or not to buy a Mech matters not to me - I have several lone Mechs that need buddies for the sake of leveling.

However, choosing whether or not I should kit them out and run them is an entirely different beast...

Stalker is super quirked, and with the excpetion of Misery was rarely seen until the -4N got quirked to hell, Jager is meh, works in the solo queue, once you get into real play people know to just hit an ST, any threatening weapon load on a Jager is XL, it has to be, Battlemasters, I've never really been threatened by, but I don't own any either, but there aren't that many around.

So what about Hunchie -4P, BJ-1X (with all the lasers?) Kittiepult K2s, Shadowhawks etc that all sport high mounted main weapons.

....and you rarely see?
