Ladies and Gentlemen! Trothkin!

As you have noticed, guys from PGI have offered their re-imagined Marauder for sale. It's very nice, sure. Alexander Iglesias did a good job, as usual.
But the right torso gun or slanted PPC pods were not everybody's cup of tea.

However, CGL has just released "their" brand new re-imagined Marauder. Similar and yet not identical, drawn by Anthony Scroggins, another great BattleTech painter.

So check "this" Marauder! Dorsal Gun! Massive straight-edged arms!

The Marauder used by the aces of the BattleTech Universe has just arrived!

Yeah... I very much prefer this chunkier design over the sleek, clan-like we'll be getting here...

That one is clearly better and more related to the original art, but I think PGI using it would 100% result in a lawsuit.

I do not think so. I think that the lawyers employed by The Topps, Inc. (owner of BattleTech IP) saw those pictures above and greenlighted them. And The Topps is not some small company.

Nah. It's different enough. If CGL is getting away with it, no reason PGI can't as well. The original was clearly plagiarized, this one, the worst you could say was inspired by it, but noone is going to mistake it for the IP HG is all hot and bothered over unless they need glasses.

Alex is limited by designs that have to function in a 3D FPS environment. Having large beach umbrellas sticking out of your mech's head doesn't accomplish that,

Do you remember Mektek's Marauder from their mod of MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries?

looks pretty similar to Alex's Just drew more inspiration from the original. Personally I think Alex's looks far better.

Am I the only one who prefers the RT mounting of the ballistic? Looks more in-line with Battletech than having the centerline gun bisecting your ride.....

There are a lot of things on this model I LOVE, but I prefer Alex's ballistic mount.

Make it look too close to the Macross version and we could end up with Minmai singing at us- and nobody wants that.

That's absolutely okay.

However, there're many 'Mechs with centerline big guns. The Hussar with its dorsal ER Large Laser. The Goliath has a centerline PPC (and later Gauss rifle).

Even the Clan Scylla comes with ER Large Laser above its cockpit. Etc.

And of course, the Behemoth with its monstrous dorsal ... eh ... Small Pulse Laser. :D

Oh, I get the art and knowing the Goliath has a turret.... But there just aren't enough crit slots in the head or CT for a PPC or AC5. Having it offset just makes more sense to me is all. It is a very nice model though, were it the only choice, I'd be happy with it.

Well, record sheets always include a necessary degree of abstraction. That can't be helped. Certain BattleMech properties can't be always entered in equipment slots.

I don't even want to imagine the amount of tears around here when/if PGI would state that they can't release mechs with big CT weapons due to a lack of available slots in said CT.
I mean, it was what it was with the Urbie and its STD60...

BTW, that would mean that the ejection system of the MAD will be sideways like the CPLT, right? (left, IIRC)

Eject? What's that? :P

The Marauder doesn't have an Ejection system, you simply make all your enemies eject instead.
