PGI basically sent them the following message with this tourney.

"Hi newcomer, welcome to MWO. We know that only four starting mechbays is tight for you, and CW is ages above your skill level, but no worries, here is a chance for you to earn a completely free mechbay!

To earn this completely free 300 MC, all you have to do is to score a low low point of three hundred, on each of the maps, that gets harder and harder to drop into, and kindly ignore the people who disconnect, or run out of bounds, or suicide, at the start of the game.

Have fun, and be sure to check out our awesome consumables, and use them a lot to make scoring easier for you! Because the WHOLE TWO MILLION C-Bills that comes with the T1 winning package will totally cover the costs of the near hundred or two matches that you will be spending Strikes, UAVs, and Cool Shots on.

Also, did we say that CW is above your skill level? That was just a joke. Join CW with our completely optimized meta trial mechs for the chance to earn another 300 MC, this time with WHOLE FIVE MILLION C-Bills addition!"

<_<

Like I say, there have been quite a few great events, but this is the worste one I can think of. Also these events dont replace lack of in game features.

Although I do think they can be entertaining and may have some use for the peeps building this game.

This event would cause depression in even the most down to earth happy go lucky new player.
I feel bad for all new players in this game, especially the new players who have not played a MechWarrior game before.
They are just fodder.

This is a niche game for sure.
If we want this game to survive they really need to get the single player version up soon I think.

It is seems to have screwed over vets the most too, and almost every other demographic. Another wonderful event...

It's why I've literally stopped caring about them and stopped trying to even complete them in the first place. The toxic poopsocking environment just isn't worth it.

Yup, MWO in a nutshell, and we wonder why it has a player retention issue. How its not dead I seriously dont know.

I remember my first event. Played all weekend and won a bullet on a string.

FupDup is correct...
I feel very bad about it but I just did my 3rd team kill late last night.
I was getting LRMed and just needed to back up out of the rain.
Someone was blocking me and would not move.
I lost my temper, turned around and let it fly till he died.
This even showed me a part of my self I wish I didn't have.
... the other two were similar events one and two years ago.
I seem to loose it about once a year in events like this one.
I'm not making an excuse here... I feel bad about it and am sincerely sorry.
This event brought out the worst in my competitive nature.

And these fools whine becaue they cant get the last map they need for their 1000+ MC, multi million cbill, plus fluff prize.

The events prizes are getting better...but the events are not.

this event is pro elite. dont even try if your kd < 1. i wouldn't be surprised if anybody but the top 10% even qualify without using exploits.

There are still enough BT fans to care about the game and old enough to spend money by hundreds of dollars. It is still a very niche game though. If we compare it to WoT, just how many Steam boys care about BT lore compared to WWII? How many care about the Blood Asp compared to Tiger tank? The events should definitely be accessible to them, if PGI wishes to retain newcomers.

I'm one map shy and have been dropping 3 hours straight without it even coming up in rotation.

Am about to give up, with hatred and contempt.

I've been ticked off at events in the past. The Cataphract 3D [C] one almost drove me crazy.

So when I read this one, and realized my chance of getting anything was sheer luck of the matchmaker, I was like...NOPE! I just played the weekend like any other play session and ignored the challenge completely.

I'm not against challenges, on the contrary, I kind of like them. Still, I knew after reading about this one that it was best to avoid it.

I'm glad I did.

Yep. I'm a plodder at this game and very rapidly realised there was no way I could complete the tournament at either level. Especially with games on Sunday being plagued by DC'ing assault mechs and friendly fire.

im even kind of worried because i suspect one of the maps i qualified for was thrown by the other team, a top notch unit who will not be named, possibly because they knew somone on our side. i have seen forge twice this whole event. as for randomness i have gotten grim portico 5 times in a row. the map i need, forge, has come up twice since thursday, with over 10 hours of play each day, both time with elites.

This event helps no one but the top 10%. Pro players like Proton don't need more free ****. GG PGI, get your resume ready for McDonalds.

I didn't realize challenges were intended for newbies. Sometimes you need more than a pulse to earn the rewards

On another note, Gauntlet was on sale this weekend on Steam. Damn fun game--grab three friends and tear some demon ass up.

I avoided the event this weekend. It wasn't worth the aggravation. Its the newbies and lack of MM. I'm not competing with players at my skill level. I'm competing with everybody, the goods and the bads. But the bads really do work against the team.

During Double XP weekend, I was grinding out XP on mechs I hadn't gotten around to in classes I don't often play, so I expected a learning curve, but wow, I was not prepared for the sheer number of newbies doing bad newbie moves.

Examples:
*NASCAR away from the assaults, right into the enemy force's murder ball.
*Assaults doggedly chasing the squirrel.
*That squirrel kiting enemies away from the fight. Not towards friendly blue Doritos, but away from all the Doritos.
*Everybody collapsing firing lines into columns and lighting friendlies up.
*Friendlies totally unaware of fire lanes, stepping into firing lanes, then complaining in comms about FF.
*Fat assaults standing at a choke point, alpha striking everything, shutting down, while taking all the enemy's fire, and blocking the choke point so no friendlies can help. Then being pissed off nobody helped them.
*Calling for a push, getting half way there then stalling when a spider pops his head out.
*Standing behind friendlies backing into cover.
*Cutting off friendlies while moving, colliding with them right at the start.

I haven't seen that kind of stuff since before Elo. When Elo went in, most of that went away. Now Elo is gone, but PSR isn't in yet, and we're seeing exactly why we needed Elo in the first place.

So getting 300 points was really hard for me. Usually half my team would derp off and die in the first 5 minutes, and when I found the enemy I was out numbered 3 or more to 1. Doesn't matter how good the player is, or much alpha strike a mech has, or how much armor. If you're facing those odds, you are going to put up a lousy score.

So I skipped the event. I didn't want the extra challenge of trying to earn 300 or 400 match score when I knew my team would be tying one of my arms behind my back.
