Where am I anyway on the map AKA "I thought I knew the map"?: lolwut?

GG PGI

Taking a break till you fixed that.

I guess this is the worst change PGI has ever made (untested) to the game

To those complaining, sorry but MW4:Mercs u could toggle the mini-map to what it does now. Its not new and if u didnt play the previous installment and support the franchise, then maybe u should've considered ur ignorance first

Correct me, but I guess the trigger word here is "toggle" ... Posted Image

How about get used to it.

Why regression instead of progression? It was a lot more functional and useful before. I was able to quickly react and face an enemy showing on the radar, now it's an impossible task.

Actually if you can use a real map, this one is not a real issue. The main thing to memorize is left side/ride side of your triangle carrot pointer. Think of it as if you are sitting in a race car and the pointer is the nose. Regardless of your direction of travel (North, west, whatever) anything to the left of the point is a left turn to go towards. Same thing to the right.

I would say it is the same as writing out a turn list while looking at a paper map and imagining where you car is headed to know if left or right is the desired direction. But maybe that is a mostly lost skill these days.

There are aspects of the new mini map that are good. Eg. differentiating on Mech types.

However, taking away the auto-rotation, and the torso field of view vs legs indicator, are MASSIVE backward steps.

except theres much better ways of designing a map system that does everything you described without the stupidity of trying to cram a full sized map onto a tiny screen.

for example if the full screen map overlay was transparent so you could view the full screen map and still be able to pilot/fight at the same time.

Good point/idea, SWtOR has this (transparent map)... I use it all the time... would be great to have here.

We don't need it removed.

But we need the old one restored, with the new map as added functionality can toggle to as needed.

There's currently no way in game to coordinate your torso relative bearing to legs. Once stopped, there is not observation to be made to acquire this information. The old minimap supplied this information. I think this detail alone disqualifies your opinion. Why on earth have a minimap other than to orient yourself??? We already had a battlefield map.

A couple of good ideas buried under forcing players to re-learn the game and endure nausea in the process. Needs to be rolled back until they get zoom and rotate options for players in there.

I can't think of a decision PGI has ever made that caused this many people to suddenly find the game unplayable.

the mech icons have like 6 pixels so you can't see what mech it is if there are more than 2.

You can't see the domination circle on some maps.

The player arrow shows your leg orientation instead of torso, so you don't know in which direction you actually look. For that you need the compass on *top* of the UI.

It is not that I don't want any changes, but the minimap should be a help for orientation. But in fact we just got the battlegrid downsized to like 120 pixels and that is too tiny to be useful.

New mini map is awesome. It's like all the old maps are new agan since everytime I look at the mini map I get confused as to where I'm going or where I'm at. The lack of definition on terrain is a plus. Some people call it disorientation, I'd call it almost motion sickness. Not really sure what my doritos is doing.
I've been forcing myself not to look at the map. I can't even tell how good the new frozen city map because I've spent so much time trying to figure out the new mini map.

Yes, that's what MW:LL did I believe and their "full map" is placed on the right side of the screen taking less space than ours. MW:LL's full map looks better than MWO's.

Anyway, I don't have a problem with the fixed orientation of new minimap (I use this orientation in other games an IRL) but I have a problem with its size and clarity making those diamonds and the map's contour unreadable.

It's obvious with all the whining going on that the old map was a H U G E crutch for a lot of players. Therefore it's dumbing down the game, the new map takes more skill to be used effectively. If the old map is reintroduced we are back to square one. I don't believe it's a good idea to let players choose this tbh.

Terrible especially at close range. Map is a mess..I really don't care to see the whole map at once, no torso and legs indicator. No auto-rotation.

PGI, you probably knew the whiners would start when you took their minimap toy away, but you made the change anyway, that took guts and I think it's for the best in the long run.

Yes, the new minimap are currently more difficult to use in close range to manuever into exactly the right place to catch or avoid an enemy, but this was likely intended as information warfare can become more important now.

Now, why do I like the new minimap?
  • We have new info on the mini map (mech types, requests) which wasn't available before.
  • The minimap is now used for different information bits than what you can see directly and what the compass bar gives you.

You act like anyone can tell what mech is what when 3 or more are in close proximity.

Guess what? Nobody complains about it anymore.

Well, I actually left the game for 2 years because of it. They improved it, and I came back. And now I'm gone again.
