Nobody really cares that it's a mech game. WoT is insanely popular these days, so it makes sense they'd want to copy it.

WoT is a casual game with a mediocre minimap. It has much less terrain variation. It has much less HUD info the player need to look at, no weapon groups, no complex paperdolls. It has no seismic sensors or UAVs that need to be presented on the map too. It has also much less brawls and incentive for players to stand very close to each other what creates a cluster*** of icons on the map,

To sum it up, following their minimap design is simply a bad decision. Just as is forcing people that play for years to relearn using basic hud displays that are in total inferior to the old ones.

It'll be work really nice also with old mini map. Oh, wait, what have I wrote... It will START working with old mini map, there is no chance for anything with this new mini map. Old mini map was perfect. Not to big, not to small, with ability to open Battlegrid and think a moment about situation, then play dinamically with smaller map, it is mini map... New mini map gives me... headache. And delete the ability to play dynamically. Of course, it can work. And it will be. When the fastest mech will be moving 40KPH to give us time to think, what I see at this dammit, small piece of screen... Still, Battlegrid will be more useful. No, there is no place for new mini map. Just no way, it can't be fine. Mini map have to show small piece of ground, where your radar have power. The rest is for Battlegrid.

I suppose this is supposed to up the "skill" factor, make sniping harder and such. You basically have to see the enemy, memorize the maps, and go by the seat of your pants like a WWII tanker hoping to see the enemy before the enemy sees you.

The problem with comparing this minimap to WoT's, is that most people make it so that it takes up a much larger portion of your screen in that game, we don't have that option here which is one of the major problems (and even if we did where would we fit it?).

Frig, even if it doesn't get zoomed in, at least make it rotate with my direction, I don't have time to look at my arrow, flip directions in my head and figure out what side of me the enemy is on... Can't get any information at a glance...


Pretty much. I had an Aliens motion sensor moment when I saw a couple of red blips in front of me but couldn't see the enemy! lol

New minimap is an utter disgrace, how this got put into the live game is beyond belief.

I'm trying to basic a new Banshee. I can now no longer see the directional arrow unless I'm already at full speed. So in a brawl, with loads of twisting and turning, I constantly lose track of the relation between where I'm looking, and where my legs are walking.

This is practically UNPLAYABLE, it is certainly NO LONGER FUN.

I just came back to the game after a 6 month break. Guess it's time for another break, or maybe I just give up on anyone at PGI finding their arse with either hand. FFS

I'm glad we at least got the command wheel, though it's about 4 years late in the making. Allowing us to adjust the zoom of the minimap is something they'll hopefully put priority on so we don't have to be zoomed out for too long.

Please give us the old mini map back. For brawling the map is too small. And you cannot see what your team mates are facing.

Since you are unable to fix the game where it hurts eg matchmaker, heat registration, balance etc, at least don't destroy the few remaining parts of the game that are working like the old minimap. The new minimap (maximap) sucks and do us all a favor and return to the previous FUNCTIONAL minimap.

PS I see in my crystal ball that you are taking a completely wrong way about the game, right now you have around 2000 players, but the way you are going in a short period of time you will drive away the majority of the players especially the older ones that we have been around here since beta and we supported the game and the company financially. The last 2 weeks the number of players was low and I know it cause I end up playing with the same people all over either on my team or as opponents. The only reason people showed last week was the challenge but after it is over they are going to disappear again.

I'm not stating an opinion on the quality of the mini map. Just putting forth some ideas to help other players deal with it.

Always have your compass heading in mind, knowing you are facing west makes that quick glance at the mini easier to take in where other mechs are.

Use the map only to get a glimpse of where enemy and friendly mechs are direction wise. Don't try to navigate by it. As the saying goes, keep your head on a swivel and know the terrain around you.

G4, B5, F8 learn how to quickly track grid points from the outside edges. Not having the numbers on each grid point means we lost easy mode.

Anyone else have advice to add?

Try to keep this thread on tips and tactics. There are enough complain treads out there already.
